  1. QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) huge error by Tracye But yet again Robin tries to squeeze a batter or two out of a reliever he shouldn't... just like he does with the starters. Someday Robin you need to actually think about winning the F****** game instead of saving the bull pen. I'm just tired of his act. There's a few who are mentally weak in the pen.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) Only good thing about not having a protected pick is it might avoid another disastrous free agent signing Watch they trade Q and sign Smarj.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) I really hate responding to you because you are so smart and I am an ignoramus. What I mean is do normal baseball fans these days even know what you're saying ? My guess there's not too many who can explain the theory of being replacement level, which is the easier of the things you are trying to say. Now I know some might think they know what it is but couldn't quite put it into words if you asked them without looking it up 1st. Bat is one standard deviation below league average and glove one below legendary bad ? Let me look all that up on the back of todays modern baseball card, or let some announcers on baseball telecasts explain it to me . Oh wait pretty much the only place you find this stuff is online or in some level of math class I never got to or forgot long ago. You may very well be right about Avi but by traditional numbers Alexei, LaRoche , Flowers have been worse right ? I can't understand why then a MLB organization with reems and reems of all this wonderful new data can play all 4 of those guys full time . Maybe I'm wrong and I'm sure there will be others to say they understand most advanced stats but I still believe there is a wide gap between a regular baseball explanation for why Avi is so bad and the advanced metrics explanation .At least half the people who read what you said can't explain in more simple terms. And I actually think it's more than 50% and there are more highly educated young men on Soxtalk than your average fan. I'm a dinosaur I know but when people used to talk baseball they didn't need a chalk board with a lot of x's on it with derivatives and 5 syllable mathematical terms. Baseball used to unite the classes , unite the young and the old, now its just one more thing that divides us. I like this post!
  4. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) When guys have an off-year in a White Sox uniform, they don't just regress slightly, they fall off a cliff. So annoying. They often come from losing organizations and only have to worry about playing for a new contract. There's no pressure in August and Sept.
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:51 PM) Saladino doesn't have the bat for third. That's pretty obvious. So they let Olt have a crack at it. Saladino should play short right now, but the Sox insist on playing all veterans. Thompson has been killing the ball. No reason for him to not play every day. We might have a gem. I'm a little cautious after checking his ML stats.
  6. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) I am not a stat guy so I don't even know what the numbers you posted mean with all due respect. I'll simply say I've watched Ramirez for years and stand by my statement. I will also tell you for what it's worth, that one of the Sox broadcasters said privately he's (quote) "the dumbest shortstop in baseball..." I'll take their word and what I've seen with my own eyes over numbers that can be made to say anything you want them to. (Not saying you personally have twisted anything but as someone who worked in TV sports I know how ratings are twisted to mean anything a particular individual or station wants them to.) The sooner Ramirez goes, the better in my opinion. Mark Oh no, that one is on the other side of town.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:26 PM) Great to see Rodon and Trayce play well. Seems like Avi might finish strong as well. Avi has to hit 280 or higher if he's ever going to be a solid starter. I give him a pass this year because of all the time he missed from the injury and even though he got in some games last year a major injury like that isn't easy to overcome. But next year he has to hit 285/335/450 as his defense is what it is at this point. Isn't he 3rd on the team in RBIs?
  8. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) Shut down Rodon? Why?
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) Nate's arm motion is so unnatural and un-smooth. I don't expect a long career from Nate. Clev. announcer were talking about his delivery. He doesn't hide the ball and hitters can still get around in him.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) Of course it was great pick. Never thought he would be so underrated given his hype 18 months ago. I was surprised they brought him up so quick.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:27 PM) Can't believe that Kiley McDaniel said in his chat today that Rodon wouldn't likely be the first pick if they did the 2014 draft over. Who cares. It was a good pick.
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) Rodon was dealing that inning. Seeing Sale, Q, and Rodon is awesome! Great pitching. You're not breaking the bank either.
  13. Mmmm Rodon still impressive. Last pitch at 98. Maybe another 2/3 an inning.
  14. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:16 PM) Six nice innings for Rodon. I pull him as part of limiting his innings and let him enjoy a very good performance. 97 pitches enough. Less strain than pushing pitch count. Montas time Put in Petrified. He gets it when they are playing for a better pick.
  15. I really like watching the opposing team's broadcast. They like our players more than we do.
  16. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) I loved Robin as a player.. but he is a horrible manager. No thanks. This is why I don't like former players as managers. You forget they were great playing the game.
  17. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) Fire Kenny Williams Fire Rick Hahn Fire Robin Ventura Fire most scouting Begin the recovery process with a real general manager and baseball operations team. Our current players just don't matter. None of them outside of Sale could possibly part of the "good White Sox" That's going to take a new owner who want to win.
  18. Tell all of the Sept. call ups to play crappy baseball, we need the draft pick.
  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) Home runs are fun. After the steroid era I find them boring. I like a pitcher dual and the NL style of play.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 08:58 PM) The Sox do seem to like Brantly. What is his history? How did they get him?
  21. QUOTE (gosox41 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) As much as I like your attitude, the Sox play has been a big disappointment this summer. I choose to ignore them all together. Easy to do because everyone is on the Cubs bandwagon as much as that sucks. I think right now every game the Sox win moves them farther away from achieving a long term goal of winning a World Series. might as well play for the draft pick and see how good are scouts are. Beats making a late run towards .500 against other teams minor leaguers. Bob Royals fans said that for about 30 years. If winning comes from the contributions of the kids, I have no problem with that.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96908 Thank You! I've read it twice.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) I wish Robin would tell more guys to hit home runs. Then they hit them with no one on base.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) While the last sentence may be true, the rest of this post wholesale ignores the past few years of history. You have a different crowd making most of the decisions now, and you can see in who they've drafted that their style has changed noticeably. Please elaborate.
  25. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) LMAO. Me too in a sad way.
