Should The Sox Buy the Old Post Office For A New Stadium?
kitekrazy replied to nitetrain8601's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) It won't be for the White Sox. Their lease runs another 15 seasons. It is a sweetheart lease. They make money just about every year. No reason to spend probably billions now. When was the last time any owner invested in a stadium. There's tax payers to fleece. -
Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa

I wish I could be 100% thrilled. Bassitt would be more cost effective. The bullpen was a big problem and they still need more offense production. I will make a prediction John Danks will have an above average year and win 14. They'll be strong is SP but bullpen and defense will be suspect. They still are weak fundamentally. They'll be more like the Tigers. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 07:59 AM) I think he was top 7 in the NL in HR, RBI and BB. and that's the NL. The Sox don't have a good track record with NL talent.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
kitekrazy replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:40 AM) You really need to rethink your life when a sporting event makes you so mad that you threaten people online. Some years ago I was having a discussion with a writer from the Baltimore Sun when he dared to write an article comparing Peyton Manning and Johnny Unitas. He got a lot of cruel feedback and even more when to Colts beat the Ravens in the 2006 postseason. The NFL has grown into this massive religion. You hear about a lot of violence among fans. When you think about it the NFL can take up 9 hours of your life on a Sunday. Not having cable and living in a warmer climate I don't miss the NFL that much. Much of the media has ruined it for me. I'm tired of ex players running the media who are self centered or not having a clue how the modern NFL is run. I want the journalists back. I sure don't miss ESPN either. -
Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

1. The team hasn't gotten better on defense. 2. When has acquiring NL talent actually benefited the Sox? I think they are cursed in this area. -
I'd rather they spend that money to improve on other areas. The Tigers improved their starting pitching at the ASB and where did it get them? They are fundamentally flawed, not good at defense like the Sox. I'd gamble another season with Danks. The Sox need a bat and a pen.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Some teams need him to be an ace and start every 5 days. The White Sox need him to fit into a 5 man rotation without a specification and make 32 starts. The fact Quintana and Sale make low money and pitch at a high level makes signing a bad contract a little more tolerable. Ugh, I think of Peavey right away.

I think we've seen this Cub train ride before with experienced managers.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) lots of respect for Giants after watching their post game interviews. All those guys were extremely classy and appropriate. for them it's "been there, done that"
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) For a team on the verge of their 3rd title in 5 years, the Giants really don't get a lot of pub. That's because of the east coast bias.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Jake says that someone is going to have to tear the jersey off of him before he retires. That's not the only thing I'm gonna be tearing off Jakey boy. I don't think that's a problem if it says "OvaaaahRated" on the back. I still don't get the fascination with this guy. He can't pitch in a big game. He will be like Edwin Jackson and Bobby Bonds finding a team to take him.
-
I'd give their organization more credit than the manager.

Danks seemed to be getting better at the end of the season. That might be something to look forward to.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/...re-low-so-what/ World Series ratings are low again, SO WHAT? Remember NBC Monday Night Baseball. When cable expanded, the Braves were on TBS, USA use to have a game of the week. Baseball seems to have lost nat'l exposure. Now it's on Saturday and it's presentation is done poorly. I prefer to have broadcasters and journalists. Former athletes ruin it for me. I can't even watch the NFL anymore.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) Royals hitting Peavy? Where have I seen this before? When he isn't on IR.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Adam wasn't what we needed him to be. That seems to be the case when the Sox invest in veteran NL talent. I hope they stop that.
-
Being a hitting coach is one of those jobs asking to get fired. I think they are more important in the minor league system. I bet the Sox don't have any good ones there.
-
I find mid season trades don't really pay off until the next season.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) I think some people on this board are really over-valuing draft picks. 1st rounders are obviously important, but losing 2nd & 3rd round picks should never sway you from adding an impact player, at least if you think you're team is close to being competitive. And I get you also lose their bonus allotment, but when you're trying to add outside talent and the trade-off is losing a pick/bonus or trading away partially developed prospects, I'm going to sacrifice the unknown commodity first every single time. As for position players I believe the instruction at the minor league level is not very good. They can only produce DH/1B which any organization can do that. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) Pretty amazing that DeAza turned out to be a great addition for Baltimore. He really really stunk the past 2 seasons in Chicago. Two RBI and hits today again. No, it's that he isn't surrounded by other people who are bad at baseball.

Buddy Bell D- Sox are fundamentally flawed. That drivels down to the instructors and scouts in this organization. Base running is beyond bad. As Steve Stone said, "get better base runners". -
This whole thing seems stupid and does not reflect well on a team bad a baseball. The bullpen still sucks. Too bad they didn't get the crap beat out of them which usually happens when they are on the mound.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) Olbermann right again. Excellent rant. The Jeter worship is getting kind of old. I bet it's because he's a career Yankee and not a cheat like most of his teammates.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) I'm sick of the Tigers' domination of the Central. I'd love it if somehow they lost the wildcard game, as well. Something tells me they are built for the playoffs, however and this is finally their year to win it all. Hopefully they'll get it out of their system and the dynasty will be over. They are not that great. Still suspect on defense, bullpen could be better and they are not good at fundamentals. These things do get exposed deeper into the playoffs.

Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
kitekrazy replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) No. I wouldn't. I'd look for someone to better fill that closer role. Reed was awful. Pitching in the NL is easier than the AL. Reed probably wouldn't look bad in the Sox pen but stink seems to spread on this team.
