  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) The good news is that they're with an organization with a strong record, particularly at the major league level, of immersion in fundamentals, so we can have confidence in them developing these fundamental skills with (spits out water while laughing couldn't finish it). Wow you had me going there for a minute. I'm thinkin" WHHAAAAAAAAAAAAT? There's too much dumb baseball coming out of this organization. (hint at Stone saying get better base runners} The better players on this team spent the less time in the minors.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) I believe the White Sox would currently have the #9 pick in the draft. Another top 10 pick would do wonders for the organization. Only if they are close to playing in the big leagues. I believe the minor league instruction sucks until proven otherwise.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) Sox now half a game ahead of twinkies. They're beating up the Tigers.
  4. A Cy Young staff may not be enough to cover the other weaknesses they have.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:11 PM) The Will To Win argument comes full circle, lol. How to quantify it? If we can't put a number to it, the idea of mental weakness/intestinal fortitude/clutch...then it therefore doesn't exist. You can put a number to it or can you. 1st place til late July and implosion in August. Not everything needs a number but I've seen enough mental weakness when it was time to show up vs. Twins and even the Tigers. That script rarely changes.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) He also never seemed committed to the idea of Hector Santiago being a starter, and he would easily be the 3rd best starter on this team. He's facing the A's tonight. I've been watching this on MLB. BTW Beckham is not in the lineup.
  7. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) At some point RV has to be looked at in the equation. I bet that is happening. It won't matter this year or next.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) It's amazing how nearly every pitcher has underachieved this year, yet Cooper receives very little criticism on here. People probably just love his radio interviews. So who do you replace him with? That is the big question. We will see another function weakened by Reinsdorf's loyalty policies.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:49 PM) DA when is RV accountable? Had a first place team and it ran into the ground, year 2 and 3 not very good efforts and in crunch time team blows in August and September his WHOLE tenure. Not a recipe of ever playing playoff baseball. We've seen that from more than one manager. I still believe in this wacked out theory there is some mental weakness in the organization.
  10. QUOTE (harkness @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Yeah because that Yankee roster so much better. Yeah our roster isn't all that special however there is 3 years to me is a pattern. Hope I'm wrong and all the "people with perspective" who don't blame RV are so correct as there level of smug. I'd gladly eat crow. I'd agree when it comes to the pen.
  11. Instead of Pick to Click it should be Bloke to Choke. Picking someone in the pen is a sure winner.
  12. So what are they tanking from this season?
  13. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) well that sucked Not so much as being predictable.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) "He is a good power hitter from the left side, he hits righties well, he hits a lot of home runs, he strikes out a lot, he walks a lot, he doesn't hit lefties very well, and he doesn't play very good defense." I just got off the phone with Billy Beane and he said that word for word. This made my evening.
  15. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) Preparing for all the Omg how could the sox trade Beckham! Team leader, heart and hustle , etc etc lol So far I only hear crickets.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) Held on too long and ended up giving him away. Would have liked to seen a trade for someone else's failed top prospect. The utter, and inexplicable, lack of a sense of urgency to deal in July under the vain notion that this team was still in it, will retard this rebuild. You have to assume some other team wanted him. They have enough failed prospects. The fact the Angels got him via wavers says a lot. We even over value our crappy players.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) Considering it's a PTBNL or cash, I'm thinking it's a low level prospect that they'll decide on later, or they just take the money...which I can't even think of what the amount would be. We got enough of those. Take the cash.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:25 AM) oh hey look guys, greg's overreacting again while looking at things in a vacuum As I recall, Reinsdorf is the one who really pushed the envelope in signing Abreu. Seems to me Williams really didn't want to go above like $45-50 million, and Jerry said "if this guy is as good as you say, we may as well spend as much as we have to [sic]" I'm going to use Greg's words from a previous thread for his quote. "I've never read something so horrible from a Sox fan."
  19. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:34 AM) That was Jose Barraza. His numbers are pretty decent, but from what I understand he's a work in progress behind the plate. I believe he missed most of last season due to injury. The two biggest names on that team are Micker Adolfo and Spencer Adams. Tim Anderson and Francellis Montas are rehabbing there, too. Thank you for the information.
  20. We live close to the Peoria and Camelback stadiums. It was a nice night so we decided to check out the Summer league for the first time. Is there anyone on that team with some potential? We did see one player who DH and listed as a catcher park one.
  21. It's nice to have two young guys in the line up producing. The secret to their success is not spending any or very little time in the Sox farm system.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) To me, there's no better sport to watch live than baseball. I haven't seen football or hockey at the highest level, but have seen college and amateur hockey (NAHL), and I've also seen an NBA and several MLB games. There's just something really fun, special, and relaxing about watching baseball live. On the contrary, I think it's a lot harder to watch the games on TV if there's no vested interest. I so agree. It's also a great sport on the radio.
  23. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) Beckham did look bad there, really overmatched, bad swings, late on everything. After he gets non-tendered, I bet he won't get a big league contract offer from anyone, probably signing a minor league deal. He will but closer to the league minimum. I wouldn't rule out him being on the Sox. I have a strange feeling that will happen.
