  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) Held on too long and ended up giving him away. Would have liked to seen a trade for someone else's failed top prospect. The utter, and inexplicable, lack of a sense of urgency to deal in July under the vain notion that this team was still in it, will retard this rebuild. You have to assume some other team wanted him. They have enough failed prospects. The fact the Angels got him via wavers says a lot. We even over value our crappy players.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) Considering it's a PTBNL or cash, I'm thinking it's a low level prospect that they'll decide on later, or they just take the money...which I can't even think of what the amount would be. We got enough of those. Take the cash.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:25 AM) oh hey look guys, greg's overreacting again while looking at things in a vacuum As I recall, Reinsdorf is the one who really pushed the envelope in signing Abreu. Seems to me Williams really didn't want to go above like $45-50 million, and Jerry said "if this guy is as good as you say, we may as well spend as much as we have to [sic]" I'm going to use Greg's words from a previous thread for his quote. "I've never read something so horrible from a Sox fan."
  4. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 01:34 AM) That was Jose Barraza. His numbers are pretty decent, but from what I understand he's a work in progress behind the plate. I believe he missed most of last season due to injury. The two biggest names on that team are Micker Adolfo and Spencer Adams. Tim Anderson and Francellis Montas are rehabbing there, too. Thank you for the information.
  5. We live close to the Peoria and Camelback stadiums. It was a nice night so we decided to check out the Summer league for the first time. Is there anyone on that team with some potential? We did see one player who DH and listed as a catcher park one.
  6. It's nice to have two young guys in the line up producing. The secret to their success is not spending any or very little time in the Sox farm system.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) To me, there's no better sport to watch live than baseball. I haven't seen football or hockey at the highest level, but have seen college and amateur hockey (NAHL), and I've also seen an NBA and several MLB games. There's just something really fun, special, and relaxing about watching baseball live. On the contrary, I think it's a lot harder to watch the games on TV if there's no vested interest. I so agree. It's also a great sport on the radio.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) Beckham did look bad there, really overmatched, bad swings, late on everything. After he gets non-tendered, I bet he won't get a big league contract offer from anyone, probably signing a minor league deal. He will but closer to the league minimum. I wouldn't rule out him being on the Sox. I have a strange feeling that will happen.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 10:22 AM) The article refers to Reinsdorf and his plans a "rich guy" politics and billionaire myopia." Does he realize that all of the owners are rich guys or corporations? He also refers to Reinsdorf as old school and out of date. Reinsdorf want a salary cap. Last I checked this is a new idea that all other professional sports have adopted. The cost control on salaries may be why the other leagues like basketball and NFL are passing the MLB by. In some areas MLB tickets are up their with the NFL and NBA. That casual fan will opt for the latter.
  10. QUOTE (Grabnbnch @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster. I would probably still be a fan if the Sox moved and their name/history moved with the team to Portland/Nashville/San Antonio, etc, because at the end of the day, that would still be the White Sox, which is the only MLB team I've really ever cared for. However, I would prefer a situation where the Sox team would move and the history/name would stay in Chicago and the team developed a new identity in their new city (i.e. Sonics to OKC). If this happened, I would probably just stop watching MLB. Also, I think eventually most Chicagoans would adopt the Cubs as their primary baseball team. The Bears and Cardinals rivalry used to be just as fierce as Bears/Packers, and now five decades later, most Chicagoans are oblivious to the fact that Chicago had two NFL teams. Still, the A's, Rays, and maybe the Indians are more likely relocation candidates. I find it odd people would chose their team based on geography. That could be that most younger generation NFL fans are not like that. No way could I be a Cub fan. So far I haven't embraced the Diamondbacks. I love going to their stadium. I may be one of the few that enjoy a baseball game with no emotional interest. I can see a downside of the Sox leaving. That community is so much improved since they built the Cell.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) I did read the article and it wasn't bad, but good journalists do not open an article like this: You're a professional jounalist, you can think of a better word to use there. Reader comment: "Any article that begins by calling a Billionaire with championships in multiple sports a “loser” doesn’t sound like it is worth reading."
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) 2 out nobody on turns into a single, HBP ,walk ,double ,HR, double , 5 runs and counting... I'm waitin for the League to come down on them for throwing baseball games.
  13. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) Gordon Beckham Leury Garcia Jordan Danks there's your 1,2,3 inning! Yep, we have most of them.
  14. There's just not enough bad hitters in baseball to give me any confidence in the bullpen. The would make NL pitchers look good.
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) Sox are 34-30 against teams with a 500 or better record and 25-35 against teams under 500 It's tough to have to compete against the opposing pen and their own by having to score over 5 runs. From what I've seen so far this pen is painful to watch.
  16. I did not think professional baseball like this was possible.
  17. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Where was gordon going? Hopefully out of the organization.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) Webb has good pitches of any kind? Not a fan. Well they could be good pitches from a hitter's perspective.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) Someone called into Steve Stone this morning on the Hit & Run show to ask a question. What do the White Sox need to do to improve their baserunning? Answer: "Get better baserunners." It must run deep in the organization. Hahn needs to fix the "baseball dumb" problem.
  20. The Sox have guys that go into stupid mode when they are on base.
  21. How hard is it to get one out. They should have let the starter stay.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) Frank Thomas took 25 games to hit his first HR. It's all about getting on base and driving in runs. That's what Big Hurt was great at before the steroid era made everything about the HR.
