  1. In a perfect world cold weather teams would be doing away games in warm climates at the beginning of the season. 32 degrees is ridiculous. I'd expect a Bears/Packers game to break out.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) George Bell hit 47 in '87 and won the MVP. Also, Andre Dawson hit 49 and Dale Murphy 44. 1987 was kind of a crazy, outlier year offensively. George Foster hit 52 in 77. Then there's Don Kessinger hitting 4 in 69.
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) Rick Hahn would be making a mistake if he holds to this strategy. I can somewhat agree if the scouting and development isn't getting the job done.
  4. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 08:37 AM) In other words, "bad contracts" realistically can't be avoided. Not as long as you believe a players union really has power.
  5. QUOTE (Wanne @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) 1. Not sure why anyone would come all the way out here to partake in fast food anyway...but oh well. It's fast food...all fast food is meh. My fave fast foot out here tho is Freddy's Steaksburgers!...they're good how Steak N Shake used to be (sans chili). 2. The only thing I don't like about Tucson are how ASU and UofA fans go back and forth. Some SERIOUS bitterness between the two cities/schools. As for the city itself...it beats El Paso, TX...I will give it that. Some very beautiful parts of it and surrounding desert. 3. I think the whole Dodge thing is a little overdramatic...we're in Glendale...not East LA...and it's spring traing. It's fine...nothing to see there. Still can't believe how ridiculously nice it's been out here...up to 87º today and around 80 for another whole week. I need to find out the practice schedule...should have just got up and headed out there this morning. I did see there a weekend college series going on out at Camelback Ranch this weekend...NIU Huskies vs Minnesota. I find most of the non fast food places back in IL are superior. You could get lunch in Chinatown for $3. I'm still looking for that hole in the wall, that you wonder if it passes a health inspection, more than affordable Mexican carryout place in the south Peoria area. The best torta came out of Chicago Heights and then there was Tony's football size burritos in Joliet. There are no tenderloins or walleye dinners out here either. I wish there was a Chicago Bread & Dough Co. out here. Killer lunch pizza buffets there. Hard liquor is real cheap out here.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) I am jealous of anyone going to Spring Training. I live 3 miles away and I find it to be one of the least comfortable stadiums. You need lots of sunscreen since there is hardly any shade and being out in the sun really drains you. The nicer stadiums are in Surprize. I would not recommend anyone staying in downtown Phoenix unless you want to got to other places. There are plenty of places off the 101 where there is less traffic hassles. The nice thing about Camelback is it is very hassle free driving. The stop lights in AZ are annoying.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) Spring training and baseball can't come fast enough. Agreed. This thread is lame. Post Super Bowl is down time for sports media. So this is what they had to come up with and people bite on it. I think people will get less interested in professional sports as more political doctrine enters the arena. This has happened to the NFL.
  8. That's a lot of cash for a guy who has not been in MLB.
  9. Despite all of those nice stats, watching a Thomas at bat is a clinic by itself. I remember watching pitchers trying to pitch around him without intentionally putting him on base and he we slap the ball up the middle or find a gap.
  10. Amazing what $4M buys a lot of mediocrity. It's not much different than government programs.
  11. Maybe it's me but I think offonse is the biggest problem.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) The inevitable salt in the wound. Fukadome says hello.
  13. I find it interesting how MLB teams tends to place high value on Japanese players. Most tend to burn out after a few seasons of MLB. How fortunate for the Sox that one dude (I can't remember his name) signed for less money to play Wrigley.
  14. Ugh! Just what we need. More former players turned into managers.
  15. Whaddaya think the chances are this kid is going to start right away?
  16. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Dec 14, 2013 -> 11:57 PM) I love Juan Uribe. So do his teammates. This contract will ensure my Dodgers fan brother gets a Juan Uribe card for Christmas once again! (Previously gave him Juan Pierre too, a mutual Juan gimmick). There a lot of positive responses by readers at MLB. If he has a fan club I'm in.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) I know W-L isn't a good way to judge pitchers, but Floyd seems to buck the trend. In games when he gets the win his career ERA is 1.97. In games when he gets no decision, it's 4.85. In games when he gets the loss it's 7.32. Naturally they should break down this way in general, but to this extreme? Maybe it just shows when he is good, he is really good, and when he is not he is really bad. I have yet to believe in that theory 100%. Aces bring a lot of team confidence when they are out on the mound. Then again last year's team destroys that theory with Sale.
  18. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! As I've stated in other threads... I am a big Dodgers fan. Almost as much a Dodgersfan as Sox fan. Belisario is terrible. He is incredibly frustrating to watch. What was even more frustrating to watch was Don Mattingly's continued use of him in high-leverage late inning situations. And now, as a Sox fan I have to watch him load the bases in the eighth inning. Hopefully he will have a short leash. *puke* The Sox always go for those mentally weak guys.
  19. This articlw was probably written 5 years ago and the author forgot to press SEND.
  20. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) I do find it aggravating that Sox fans can watch a guy suck for 4 years and still make excuses for him. I thought we were supposed to be the smart fans. See John Danks, Gavin Floyd.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 10, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) Again, why are we trading Dunn? There is nobody in the system to take his place in 2014. If by the small chance you compete in 2014, his home runs will be a reason why. Keep him. Maybe an AL team gets desperate at the deadline. This.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 10:41 PM) Has any Marlins manager been successful at selling tickets? With the exception of Ozzie, has any White Sox manager done it? Give me a break. Kenny thought so.
  23. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 06:04 PM) Hopefully we don't go after him. We have enough guys with an OBP below .330. It makes me think KW is running the team.
  24. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) Sorry, but it will aways and forever be f*** the boston red socks. Best post of the thread.
  25. If some things are rooted deep in an organization, it's more difficult for change at the big league level. They should fire the hitting instructors in the minors as well.
