  1. How do you define a top pick and a worse pick. They are good at the latter no matter where they draft. I have no faith in the farm system.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) That's true. As defense has moved back into the forefront, I think other than Boston no team really has a set DH. Teams like to use that spot to give players rest and maximize their defensive skill each day. Dunn doesn't really help with that. I like that philosophy but when the Sox tried that it was the wrong people. After 2005 the DH has been a money pit.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) 90% boos for Arod at home. Nothing like hypocrisy.
  4. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) I hope people realize that the Sox will not be buyers this winter. They will be in a situation where they will see who develops next year. They will be buyers once again in 2015. There is no way of knowing that.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 07:26 AM) I'm with you. I like Jake, but not sure what we are thanking him for. He made bold competitive statements that appeased fans when he wasn't on the field. Anyone can talk. I really wanted to keep him.
  6. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 10:25 PM) Again, who would want him? What would you expect him to bring in a trade? He's an average-at-best hitter with no defensive position... We're stuck with him for the foreseeable future, so let's hope he can show some improvement. Sounds like the perfect White Sox. I think he is a victim of being over hyped when he was in the minors. Another guy who can't catch a baseball. Should be be so eager to give up on him since this year's theme is underachievement?
  7. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) Chances are Dunn is the DH with Tank at 1B. Dunn has been really good for 2 months now, when are you haters gonna cut him some slack. We want obp on this team right? his obp the last 2 months has been in the .390s. He's one of the last guys I could complain about in this team.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) There is undeniably an attitude problem with this team. It isn't the whole problem, there have been injuries, bad luck, aging, young players not taking steps forward, but also attitude. It has not felt like many players on this team cared about the results of games for much of the season. Great case for a new manager.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) Shared salary and a marginal prospect? If the Sox were OK with that, if they were claimed, they would just let the claiming team take on the entire contracts. Why pay for marginal prospects? So the Sox could have the largest farm system of marginal prospects.
  10. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) I doubt that Danks gets claimed. Even if he does I wouldn't let him go for nothing. He's pitching way better than his record and ERA show. His WHIP is very good. Compared to what pitchers are getting on the open market, Danks' contract is not as bad as people make it out to be. I would bet money that next year he will be back to the old John Danks with an ERA in the mid 3s. I would call that the rare Danks. He's overrated.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:29 AM) I mentioned in another thread the year the Sox drafted Aaron Poreda, 4 of the top 8 picks have lower career WARS than him, and He wasn't exactly stellar. So hoping a team is miserable all summer just for a high pick usually doesn't work out as well as it does in other sports. I find it more depressing since the organization drafts by agent, minors don't show seem very good at developing unless it's a pitcher.
  12. Wow! 250+ pages on this subject. "Other " sites don't even dent that. Good job Sox Talk!
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) When the payroll is over 100 million, yes he should. He's getting a free pass because he's Robin Ventura. If Mark Parent or Joe McEwing got the job at the same time, and the team was playing like this, everyone would be calling for the manager's head. Well put.
  14. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) How do we get these better position players Greg? Magic. I'd like to see the organization come up with that answer before Greg. So far they drafted multi sport athletes to play the OF, low baseball IQ, skill deficits that can't be fixed in the minors. I guess the answer is stop doing that.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 10:50 PM) Here's the Royals' announcers take on Rios' mistake. They both played MLB and both said Rios f***ed up. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/mlb/gameda...&mode=video SO what? When are the Sox going to figure out these Royal aces with eras 5+.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:48 PM) That play was a little tougher than we're making it seem. If he stays at third and the ball hits the ground (especially with no dive), he can't score. He basically had to decide in mid-air if it was more likely to be caught or not caught. He thought it wouldn't be caught, because of course it shouldn't have been. Good call. We have the benefit of watching from multiple camera views.
  17. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) This is so stupid. Why sell low? I think this season of recovery for John will be great moving forward. When his fastball moves up a couple ticks next year he'll be a sub 4 ERA lefty pitching around 200 IP barring any new setbacks. Fun fact: For starting pitchers throwing more than 60 innings, John Danks is second in BB/9 only to Adam Wainright. That is better than the ultra hyped strike machine Bartolo Colon. Better than Jordan Zimmermann who has had his coming out party this season. Danks will make you eat your words next year. With the fastball gaining velocity, the curveball becoming a useful pitch for him and having had to pitch without his best stuff all of this year, John's stock is on the ups. I hope you're right.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:58 AM) They should give the guy the salary Braun is forfeiting. His contract should be voided.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) Well, he's definitely not a CF, and his baserunning has left something to be desired, to say the least, but those things can be corrected. The important thing is that he can actually hit and steal bases, and he is relatively affordable. Those things are not necessarily commonplace. I don't know how. This seems to be a weakness on the farm. The minor leaguers seem to have a habit of getting picked off once they come up.
  20. I'm a fan. I hope he's going to have a quiet productive career. I'd keep him.
  21. There's a difference watching a team half ass it and a team trying to play quality baseball. The latter is much easier on the eyes.
  22. Kenny and Hahn are too different personalities. Kenny liked to deal and was more outspoken. Han is quiet and patient. We are not use to it.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) Why's that? An uneducated instinct.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Justin Verlander has thrown 110 pitches in 14 of 20 games this year and has only 1 game with fewer than 91 pitches; last year, he threw 114 pitches or more in 20 of his 33 starts, and failed to throw 100 pitches only once. If you'd really like, I could probably continue to do this with Felix, Sabathia, Wainwright, Holland, whoever. And then I can do it with Strasburg too, who the Nationals handle with kid gloves, who's already had Tommy John, who still has injury concerns, who will never develop the arm strength necessary to be anything more than a 7 inning weapon at most. Great post! I'm not a fan of restricting competition of athletes.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) I don't get why they're pushing his pitch count either...but in Cooper I trust. I'm no longer riding that train.
