  1. Maybe Hahn is one of those guys who are quiet. Nothing wrong with that.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) No one wants to see pitchers facing Chris Sale in the all star game. I know he can destroy them, I want to see him making all-stars look bad. I can't see a pitcher wanting to face Chris Sale.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 12:58 PM) MLB Trade Rumors ‏@mlbtraderumors 6m Pirates Release Jose Contreras http://bit.ly/13ByzKP #mlb Coop'll fix him.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 12:29 AM) Completely agree. I didn't hate the 1st Jackson deal because they traded Hudson. I hated it because I thought they could have gotten so much more for Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg. Makes you wonder though with Hudson. Will he pitch again? I thought the Jackson trade was to have a veteran presence for a possible post season.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Sale was ranked 16th by FanGraphs on their trade value list. For the record, that is higher than Yasiel Puig, Felix Hernandez, Yu Darvish, and a few top 5 prospects. Despite Hahn's silence, Sale's contract is a good one. Kudos to Hahn.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) Greg, he isn't a superstar nor is he a lineup wrecker. He is a player very good at some things, very bad at others, and it all adds up to 10% above league average offensively, with no defensive value. He is a roughly average DH. That is his value. Overpaid or underpaid, he is not anything extreme. I wonder how well he would do if he was sandwiched between Fielder and Cabrera? Sometimes other guys in a lineup around you can make a difference.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Any stat that says Adam Dunn is a good hitter has to be questioned. If he's a good hitter, why aren't teams lining up to acquire him? I'd be shocked if he doesn't just retire after the current contract expires or play for pennies. I want people on the record on this topic. Does anybody else think Adam Dunn is a "good hitter?" I say NO. That would depend on how you define a good hitter. He had a nice career in the NL. I think it's tougher for some guys to switch from the NL to AL. Pujols isn't putting up those MVP numbers like he did in the NL. Next year he will be in $20M+ salary. What kind of numbers should justify that amount? I for one think it's a greater risk throwing huge money at a NL player to play in the AL.
  8. How did this thread get railroaded into an Ozzie vs. Ventura thread or even mentioning of Ozzie. "He gawn". Get over it. If Dusty Baker were managing the team with these results-I can't imagine people wanting him for next year.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 07:13 AM) It's impossible to know exactly what would have happened in 2010 had the Sox signed Thome instead of the Twins, but it's safe to say that he was the deciding factor between the Sox and Twins that season. This statement is somewhat contradicting.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 11:58 AM) I think if we were talking about the last year of his deal, maybe. But with a whole other year at $15 million? I can't see it. Again, what would Dunn get if he were a free agent right now? $5 million? $10 million? It sure wouldn't be a long term deal. There is no shortage of stupid owners in baseball.
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) Given Berkman's injuries and drop in production, I think Texas is a logical destination for Dunn, especially when you consider playoff scenarios. Detroit's RH dominant staff...you need all of the LH power bats you can get in the lineup. Maybe an NL team.
  12. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) That's the way I heard it, it was basically the two sons fighting for Dad's (JR's) loyalty. KW won. It seemed like they were both jockeying for favor once we won the WS, each convinced that they were more responsible for it than the other. God I don't miss that soap opera. I think Ozzie was the only one doing that.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) The franchise is still paying for Ozzie winning the Thome/Kotsay battle. Some would argue that the Thome/Rowand trade set them back even more. I liked Ozzie's philosophy on that but they had the wrong people for it. The DH has always been a money pit for the Sox.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) All the marketing BS would bother me more if Rivera wasn't such a good guy and actually seems to be geuiniely moved and appreciative of everything. He's also a real Yankee. Came up through their system.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:26 PM) This is the dumbest stuff I've ever heard. Makes zero logical sense. I mean, I'm sure he would potentially be a good closer, but really, this is going pretty far outside the box and is about as unlikely a rumor as I've heard all year (and now watch the deal get announced in a couple days). I wonder what an NL ERA of 5+ translates in the AL.
  16. If you look now, you can see there is no depth in Sox or baseball discussions compared to here. #6 thread is titled Latest Sox commercial. #4 My Annual White Sox Marketing & Game Experience Complaint List. What does that tell you?
  17. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 06:07 AM) I was never at WSI long enough for a ban, noticing early on that I didn't care much for the site. I did however receive a warning there for being overly religious. I had simply agreed with something another poster had said and I replied "Amen brother, preach it!". For that I received a warning. I just never went back. If I said, "Baseball owners are like congressmen, they throw lots of money on bad products". That would cite a warning for being political.
  18. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) He has to be in the top 5 douche bags on that site. All the other mods love to hype him up saying bulls*** like "I'll have to see how Daver feels on player X first." Embarrassing. I don't know what his credentials are, but they treat him like he's a baseball god. All he does is provide snarky one liners that rarely stimulate conversation other than arguments. He's probably one of the view that has knowledge of the farm system. He knows people in the organization.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) Which is why it makes sense to give Ventura another shot with another group of players. As loyal as Reinsdorf is, I see no way Ventura isn't brought back. The last Sox manager to be let go after 2 seasons was Bevington, and that was after displaying extreme incompetence. He's somewhat doing that now. I think the reaction would be much different with the fans if it were someone outside the organization.
  20. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) Because he still had the glow of 2005 WS on him. I remember that season and how awful it was. I think this is even worse. I think what we're looking at is the ole' chicken-or-the-egg conundrum about an awful team: is it the managers or the players? How can you tell until one is removed? I'm fine with Robin for at least another year providing we make some big changes on the field. Then perhaps we'll have a better read. That said, and I'm going to get shelled for this: Beckham. Is he a bust, or isn't he? Somebody decide. Yes his defense is great but so was Brian Anderson's. I don't know what to say about him--personally I like the guy. That depends on how you look at it. If you expected the same production when he first came up-Yes. Being able to play in the majors-No.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) I think blaming this season on the coaching staff is really lazy. You could bring any coaching staff in this season and the Sox are still one of the 5 worst teams in baseball. The one thing Robin does that drives me nuts is he gives away too many outs. I don't think his staff has failed miserably though. There's really no way of knowing that.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 07:16 AM) If Robin had signed that extension, I'd be annoyed at this point due to the quality of play on the field but begrudgingly accepting that he would be here for at least another year. He's not under contract? Perfect. Bring in someone else and see if they can pull the players' heads out of their tails. The guy whose job it is to do that this year has utterly failed. I'm starting to see it that way. I'm also worried about the Sale pitch count. Where's Coop in this? Are they going to mirror the Baker/Rothschild regime?
  23. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) Ventura can't do anything with this team. It's not a very good team. A rebuild is the best thing. Lets see how he works with that before making a case to remove him. That makes me think that maybe someone else can do something.
  24. Most of you watch the games, I don't. If the manager was not a former beloved player, how soon would you want a guy gone? My question is did the team go through that many changes (minus AJ and Youk) that puts them flirting with the 100 loss mark? Could we say last season was over achievement and this season is under achievement?
  25. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 06:22 PM) I got a lifetime ban for posting a twitter link about 10 seconds after I posted a trade that had been made. Once their mods form a bad opinion of you then your toast. They don't warn either. I got a 6 month ban for not bowing to the alter of political correctness. A thread was about a player using the race card and I mentioned some black guy called on the SCORE and mentioned how Robinson had to deal with it and the needed to stop crying over it. Something like that anyway. Most of the mods are f***tards. Lip and Daver are great. I often wish the worst for their site. Best site ever is Colts Freaks. Lightly moderation and they limit their participation in discussions. They will ban you for trolling.
