  1. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) OK trade. Getting a high ceiling type of offensive player. Still only 22 years old and has a ton of potential. White Sox sure like OF's that strike out a lot. That's only thing that doesn't make me love the trade is the high strikeouts and not seeing a huge improvement increasing his walks since being drafted. I don't see that changing under the Sox farm system.
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) I'm 100% behind trading Sale if Ventura is going to remain manager and let him throw 110+ pitches every game in a meaningless season. This. How about they trade Ventura. Where is Coop's say in these 120 pitch outings?
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) I lead the charge when it comes to getting Hawk out of the booth nowadays. But the guy has had quite the career and an interesting journey, I will definitely try to watch this documentary. Watch a week of baseball on ESPN. It is possible to miss Hawk.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) Until Kansas City wins the World Series and greg wants the Sox to trade for everyone on the Royals! Kenny would buy that.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) Eh, does it really matter what they say? They have got their own thing going on there, they are happy with it, and that's cool. For me, I am happier with the personalities here. If I were worried about it, I'd go look up what they thought. I agree. This thread kind of mirrors them because there is so little to talk about when the team is like this.
  6. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) Where was this last year when we played them and it mattered? That's the Sox MO. They use to be the Twins' b**** at one time.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:28 AM) I was advocating the White Sox basically just cut him back in early May. But I gotta admit, he's been a joy to watch the past month or so. He's been playing as a borderline all-star as of late Maybe more time playing in the field has something to do with it.
  8. I love Dunn's swing when he is on.
  9. It's nice to see Beckham still hitting the ball.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) I missed the game but supposedly he had quite the baserunning blunder last week in that 18-10 game or whatever it wound up being. That seems to be an organization thing.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 03:57 AM) Olivo's name jumps out...as a back-up for Phegley and veteran tutor. Kelly Shoppach was just DFA'ed recently as well, although I think he accepted the assignment. Francouer would simply be a stopgap or placeholder in case we trade Rios... How did you come to that conclusion? I thought they got rid of him because he was baseball stupid even though I liked him. Who did they trade him for?
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 06:48 AM) Don't expect him to hit right away. Expect that he may need more than a season to adapt to big league pitching. Expect that he'll come up and hit worse than Flowers. That should be the expectation with every prospect. I remember a couple of years ago the "Free Viciedo" slogans. Then after Pods left, the cry for Owens.
  13. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) Watching Dunn in recent times, I can't help but recall this thread that came along shortly after he signed ahead of the 2011 season. I was ecstatic that KW signed him FWIW. While I never liked how Dunn sucked at the plate, I could never hate the guy. He never ducked a reporter or acted defensive towards his poor play. You don't see a lot of athletes acting like that today.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 09:05 AM) I don't get this Granderson thing. He's a super nice guy, I understand, but he's a defensive liability in CF, he strikes out nigh 200 times a year at this point, he can only hit righties, he's going to require an expensive multi-year deal, and he would block most of our best prospects from playing CF at the ML level. It's a bad fit. I think he will the biggest free agent risk out there. I don't see him putting up great numbers in a different line up to justify pay vs. performance.
  15. I'm more interested in what he can do behind the plate.
  16. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Jump in folks. Ah you are in Europe. To Americans it looks like April 7.
  17. Maybe a NL GM would be interested. I think he would have more success there.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) The draft class they brought in as well as the signing of Zapata have shown that he is going to do his best to re-establish the minor league system. If he doesn't make any trades in the next month, then you can probably start questioning, but the odds of that are slim to none. I'm concerned about the quality of instruction and scouting.
  19. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) Adam Dunn is fourth in baseball in home runs. Two guys ahead of him are triple crown candidates. Teams need that. This is not 2003, power is a premium and Dunn has it. Dunn is in a sucky lineup too.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) OK, well that tells more, and I can see where some of that comes from. But if the Rangers suddenly acquired him, I doubt they'd suddenly go in the tank and miss the playoffs. because he is Adam Dunn. If he were in that lineup, he would be the Adam Dunn fans wanted. Performance at the plate can have a lot to do with where you are in the lineup and who is batting before and after you.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 09:13 PM) The more I read through this thread, the more I think, if the Sox make a move during the offseason, it will be with the intention of playing well in 2014 with an eye towards the division in 2015. There are a lot of holes and question marks that are really glaring going into next season, and this is not an incredibly strong free agent class. Make a trade or two for a high upside bat, make a conservative signing or two that will be here for 3 years, and call it an offseason with the intention of winning about 81-85 games next year. If they remain mediocre to bad and only win 75, that's fine, and if they surprise and go bonkers with 92 wins, that's fine too. Just don't do anything stupid to get tied into a really bad long term deal. If baseball only had more stupid agents this would be possible.
  22. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) I wasn't making an empty threat... just questioning Hahn's moves or lack of moves thus far. Saying Soxtalk has reached a new low with my post was a pretty disrespectful comment. I have admitted already that I have been a little too impatient with Hahn so far. I am merely just hoping for a change in philosophy and direction. As of his 8 months of being in the GM chair, he has yet to show me much. Can that change? Absolutely. And I sure hope it does soon. When your team is 32-47 and in dead last, there will be questions needed to be answered. And regardless of how much time he has had thusfar, those questions will be directed toward the GM. Well said! Hahn is not new to the organization. Who knows what his philosophy is. There is nothing wrong with this rant. They didn't hire an outside and he was also the highest paid asst. GM in baseball because J.R. didn't want to lose him. It's his time to shine.
  23. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) Eating at a buffet is the real waste of money haha Depends on where you go.
  24. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 06:46 PM) Was one of my favorite days in Sox history. It was the debut of Carl Everett and Roberto Alomar, and I'm a huge sucker for seeing stars put on a Sox uniform. Ken Griffey was a two month hardon for me. Most memorable thing about the game was Paulie's pinch hit HR off Everyday Eddie, his 3rd HR of the season (on July 2nd!). Just thought I'd give some food for thought. Is that you Kenny?
