  1. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Jump in folks. Ah you are in Europe. To Americans it looks like April 7.
  2. Maybe a NL GM would be interested. I think he would have more success there.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) The draft class they brought in as well as the signing of Zapata have shown that he is going to do his best to re-establish the minor league system. If he doesn't make any trades in the next month, then you can probably start questioning, but the odds of that are slim to none. I'm concerned about the quality of instruction and scouting.
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) Adam Dunn is fourth in baseball in home runs. Two guys ahead of him are triple crown candidates. Teams need that. This is not 2003, power is a premium and Dunn has it. Dunn is in a sucky lineup too.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) OK, well that tells more, and I can see where some of that comes from. But if the Rangers suddenly acquired him, I doubt they'd suddenly go in the tank and miss the playoffs. because he is Adam Dunn. If he were in that lineup, he would be the Adam Dunn fans wanted. Performance at the plate can have a lot to do with where you are in the lineup and who is batting before and after you.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 09:13 PM) The more I read through this thread, the more I think, if the Sox make a move during the offseason, it will be with the intention of playing well in 2014 with an eye towards the division in 2015. There are a lot of holes and question marks that are really glaring going into next season, and this is not an incredibly strong free agent class. Make a trade or two for a high upside bat, make a conservative signing or two that will be here for 3 years, and call it an offseason with the intention of winning about 81-85 games next year. If they remain mediocre to bad and only win 75, that's fine, and if they surprise and go bonkers with 92 wins, that's fine too. Just don't do anything stupid to get tied into a really bad long term deal. If baseball only had more stupid agents this would be possible.
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) I wasn't making an empty threat... just questioning Hahn's moves or lack of moves thus far. Saying Soxtalk has reached a new low with my post was a pretty disrespectful comment. I have admitted already that I have been a little too impatient with Hahn so far. I am merely just hoping for a change in philosophy and direction. As of his 8 months of being in the GM chair, he has yet to show me much. Can that change? Absolutely. And I sure hope it does soon. When your team is 32-47 and in dead last, there will be questions needed to be answered. And regardless of how much time he has had thusfar, those questions will be directed toward the GM. Well said! Hahn is not new to the organization. Who knows what his philosophy is. There is nothing wrong with this rant. They didn't hire an outside and he was also the highest paid asst. GM in baseball because J.R. didn't want to lose him. It's his time to shine.
  8. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) Eating at a buffet is the real waste of money haha Depends on where you go.
  9. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 06:46 PM) Was one of my favorite days in Sox history. It was the debut of Carl Everett and Roberto Alomar, and I'm a huge sucker for seeing stars put on a Sox uniform. Ken Griffey was a two month hardon for me. Most memorable thing about the game was Paulie's pinch hit HR off Everyday Eddie, his 3rd HR of the season (on July 2nd!). Just thought I'd give some food for thought. Is that you Kenny?
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) I was not even two years old when Seaver came to Chicago. And I know nothing about Griffey Sr. on the Sox? That was a great time to be a Sox fan. The Sox us to be major players in free agency while during the Veeck era they were losing players to free agency.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) If all you told me last offseason was that Konerko was going to implode and finally show his age, I'd have admitted the Sox wouldn't be competing for the Central this year. Hahn wasn't going to be able to replace him or trade him and no one was benching a 15 year veteran for a free agent signing. If Hahn had some idea that this level of sloppy, ridiculous, unfocused play was going to happen and did nothing about it then I'd endorse his immediate resignation, but I'm hanging that on the managerial staff. Didn't they send a message this off season they weren't out to win this division? Most fans feel that way. The players probably feel that way as well and it shows on the field. We know guys like Tyler Flowers suck, so I wouldn't be surprised if players fell the same way. It's not any different at our jobs when we know coworkers are incompetent.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) Working with a great manager proves nothing. There have been plenty of assistants to geniuses who coach somewhere else and fail. That seems to be the case with ex Patriot coaches.
  13. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 10:18 PM) After reading through the thread, I would like to clarify that the reason I stopped coming to this site is because it seems the majoriity of people would rather s*** on my baseball team than enjoy their successes (although they're fewer and farther between now). I'd like to come here and "whoop and holler" about Dunn's f***ing bomb tonight with others, but instead I constantly have to read what trash people think he is. I know he's hitting .200, but he's our guy and he's here, and dammit he hit that ball a long way. I've loved every guy but two that have put on this uniform since 1997 when I began watching. Those two guys, Jose Paniagua, for obvious reasons, and for some reason that I don't remember, Scott Schoeneweis. Hell, I even grew that stupid stripe on my chin for Billy Koch when I was 16. Point is, this was a place where I would come to share the intense passion and love I have for the Chicago White Sox, and the last few years its become a place to read people s***ting on what I love. Not too appealling. Other than elrockinMT, of course. That guy has cracked me up for years. And I mean that in the nicest way. This would make a better open letter to Jerry Reinsdorf.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) I'm a little more concerned about baseball in Chicago in general. WHen was the last year both teams were terrible? I straight up haven't heard a conversation about baseball this summer while on the train or at bars. There is complete apathy over both teams. And I can't even claim I'm apart from it. I've had a really difficult time watching this year, even though I've been to 5 games. I haven't watched on tv at all really. Even when they are good, it's never consistent.
  15. Bad baseball brings out may other criticisms. Most of those criticisms come from that DH day. The last thing I would do is eat or drink beer at a ballpark. There's no economic sense in it. Hit a buffet before the game.
  16. Hard to believe the Astros got a deal like that.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) I'd rather they pull a Strasburg and shut down Sale I'd rather they shut Ventura down. He's taking a page out of the Dusty Baker School of destroying young pitchers.
  18. There is a positive about Phil. He talks baseball all year round.
  19. I still believe half of the problem is instruction on the farm. Working on fundamentals in ST is probably a new experience for younger players out of the system. Trying to compare how things are done in MLB to other sports is apples and oranges. You can often see the results of making the right picks in other sports after two seasons. The only comparison I would suggest is the need of new ownership. Then you start bringing in people from consistent winning organizations to run things. I'd be checking out scouts and instructors from the Cardinals organization.
  20. This kind of stuff always seems to happen when your team sucks. Fans attack other fans. Creating a thread to call out certain people is immature and that is a contribution to the degradation of any forum.
  21. Ohmygodno is the new Tony Pena. This guy has no business in organized baseball involving a paycheck.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 05:36 AM) And Liriano's doing just swell this season with the Pirates, who are currently 17 games over .500 and having their best season in over 20 years. This proves my theory that if you want to look like a better pitcher, go pitch in the NL.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:50 AM) What makes you think Frank Thomas wants to be a hitting coach? Broadcasters makes 3-5X as much money. And who would you expect would be hitting much better with the Hrniak/Lau style on our team? Frank Thomas has/had one of the most unusual, "don't ever copy that at home Little League youngsters" hitting approaches of anyone you're likely to see....and it worked for him, with his size and plate discipline, but you're grasping for straws if you think it would make any difference or bring both Gavin Floyd and Peavy back to good health. They also have a better chance of retaining their jobs.
