QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) I want Dunn gone as much as anybody but I think we'd have to throw in Q, Santiago, Viciedo and maybe Flowers. That's how untradeable that sack of whacklord is IMO. Nope. Another thing the Sox need to stop doing is trading away young affordable pitching. I keep Q and Santiago.

I like the deal since they are not handcuffed long term. Next, get rid of Dunn.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) anyone get windows 8? care to give a review? It would be a great upgrade for those using XP. W8 uses less system resources.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 02:16 AM) This again shows how the Sox losing so many games to Detroit is all mental. That team can't hit a baseball and can't field a baseball and has no bullpen. NL continues dominance of AL ... interesting. Oh please, the Tigers were better than the Sox and they were better than the other post season teams in the AL. The Giants beat them with pitching. How often is a staff good enough were a former CY winner is in the pen-who happen to look wicked.

QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) Ditka is at least somewhat intelligent. Yeah, like when he was going to make a stupid trade thinking the Colts were going to draft Ricky Williams.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) He was brought in to hit. Which he mysteriously forgot how to do, just like many other vets who play for Ozzie. You could cherry pick that I guess. Then there was Pods and Dye and the 2006 lineup.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 01:21 AM) No way I'll celebrate this. Now Detroit will be hungry again next year to get back to the playoffs and Series to complete the deal. Now Leyland will stay to try to complete the deal. This sucks. Detroit got embarrassed totally. Fielder will want revenge next year. Hopefully you realize this is only bulls*** the fans believe brought on by no talent idiot announcers working for major networks. Also, Tiger fans aren't the biggest Leyland supporters.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) How are they not a rival? They are the one team standing between the Sox and the playoffs. They were last year too and probably will be next year. Also, you mean envy, not jealousy. Common misuse: http://www.diffen.com/difference/Envy_vs_Jealousy Are they a rival if you keep getting owned by them?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 09:11 AM) You are still way above 85 wins. I personally don't necessarily blame Ozzie for Dunn/Rios, although an argument could be made. Supposedly Rios and Ozzie were buddies but I don't know if that was true all along which could explain the getting away with loafing or he suddenly became Ozzie's pal when he had to be separated from KW. Ozzie spouts off that he knew Dunn was going to be bad in spring training but it took him over 100 games to move him down in the line up when he wasn't managing to win but managing to try to make his boss look bad. To not notice or to let it slide because of 2005, would question fanhood to me. With a long season you keep playing the money guys hoping they snap out of their funk.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 07:41 AM) All you have to do is look at what those guys did either once they left Chicago, or after Guillen left Chicago. Think about it. Swisher, Rios, Vazquez, Dunn... He forced Thome out for Kotsay, etc. 2012 was to a large extent due to rebounds from guys who died under Ozzie, and the farm system way out performing anything anyone outside of the organization ever predicted them to do. I still disagree. Swisher is up to his same tricks. Anyone can do better in the Yankees lineup. Another example of using the wrong people to fill a hole. Kenny's biggest blunder IMO. Rios-credit De Aza (under Ozzie) to be able to play CF. Once again the wrong person to fill a hole. Credit Manto for Rios. You could blame Ozzie for sticking with the same hitting coach.

Just win. That's all it takes. Competitive doesn't work.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) I'm a Lincecum fan- it's great seeing contribute in a big way despite not starting. Their situations are different, but how about Washington taking this approach with Strasburg instead of what they ended up doing? At first glance I think it's a resounding no- purely because you don't want to risk messing with him mentally by introducing him to a different role/taking him out of his comfort zone, but that was a pretty awful way to get bounced from the postseason, and who's to say shutting him down like that doesn't affect him/ Me too. It must be nice for a team to have strong enough pitching. Right now he's a very expensive reliever.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 11:00 PM) It shows nothing. The AL was better than the national league this year despite the fact that the Giants are likely going to win the world series. There are no dominant teams in baseball right now and when you have a short series anything is possible. I think the talent is still better in the AL but when it comes to a team game, it appears the NL is better.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) His last few years here, Ozzie Guillen was the single biggest destroyer of Kenny Williams deals. 2012 proved just that. I can't agree with that. Kenny tried to fill holes with the wrong guys. 2012 is just a repeat of the same ending, just different characters.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) Does that mean the dedicated Miami Marlins thread is going bye bye? We can only hope.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) Winning the WS so quickly in Chicago was as much a curse for Ozzie as a blessing. Obviously it's a great honor & accomplishment and he will always be remembered in Chicago. But it raised his already inflated ego through the f***ing roof. Also, he suddenly thought that managing was so easy and he knew everything. When his teams started to falter, he just cried & b****ed & made a fool of himself instead of you know, managing the team. He was never humbled, and I doubt this will do it either. I don't see how a team could hire him as manager, unless Caracas gets a MLB franchise. He's the MLB version of Ditka.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) Ozzie won't manage on a one year contract. considering how the last 2 seasons have gone, why would any team give him more than one year? I really don't think he is too upset about today's announcement, but it will probably keep him from managing again unless he has been humbled enough to work on one year contracts. He would be stupid to work in baseball. It would void the 3 years of his Marlin contract.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) How is ace Verlander doing in the big game? Oh wait it's against a NL west team, let's dismiss any success associated with them. Better than anyone on the Sox sitting at home right now.

QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 08:42 AM) Eh, his September gives me some hope. I say we give him another chance, at least he is very solid at defense. So did Brent Morel's Sept of 2011. Beckham can still be a nice bench player.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 21, 2012 -> 02:16 PM) Robin took a less talented team, with more rookies, and turned them into competitors. It's night and day in the differences between Ozzie's performance in 2011 and Robin's in 2012. I can't agree with this 100%. This year's team seemed more talented. In the big picture the result was the same. No competitors when it comes to the veterans. They choke no matter who's managing.

I don't trade any of the pitching. 2 starters who have been on the staff the longest were on the DL.

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?
kitekrazy replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This thread should be with the why ticket sales suck threads. I think the fans have tired of getting another race out of an old horse. What makes this worse is it's another unethical player. That Manny R thing went over well. -
QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Could it be that baseball is just not that popular at the moment? Maybe it's not about the money, because even the cheap tickets aren't getting sold. I think popularity in sports goes around in cycles, and maybe in a few years, MLB will be all the talk at the water cooler. Right now it's all about the NFL. The casual fan just isn't watching baseball right now. One of the main reasons is because the epic rivalries of recent years have lost their spark due to some teams falling into oblivion. The Cubs/Sox crosstown rivalry is non-existent at the moment because Cubs fans are in hiding.. and likewise, the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is non-existent due to Saux fans in hiding. The casual fans aren't hearing the trash-talking and are evidently finding other things to occupy their time. It might be a MLB game is close to the pricing of NFL and NBA. I could see a family holding on to their $ to buy NFL or NBA tickets. The bottom dollar ticket to see the Colts in the RCA dome was $15, while a center field seat for a Sox-Twins game was $25. It could be that baseball is starting to become over priced entertainment.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Considering that $6 of every parking pass goes to city/county taxes, that would give the Sox $4 for every car that shows up. That will help the payroll. All the more reason to leave Chicago and Crook County.
