  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) Great day for Chicago...Sox get eliminated while the Cubs lose their 100th game. How are the Bears doing? If you look at this century, Chicago is the city of choke. The exception is the 2005 Sox were dominant in the post season. They were like the 85 Bears-should've won more.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) I'll root for Detroit. The longer they play, the more innings for Verlander, et. all. Also the more they win, the more they might have a letdown next year. To win the division, we are going to need a replay of this year out of Detroit. No way in hell we'll win enough for a wild card so we gotta win the division. GO DETROIT!!!! Please explain that logic. That was reserved for the Cubs with their flip flop 90 win 90 loss seasons.
  3. I wonder if Alomar will be their manager nest year. I remember the Sox organization high on him.
  4. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) Albuquerque walks the bases loaded & Francouer cant stay patient at the plate.... They shouldn't have watched all of those Sox games.
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) It looks like the offense and team as a whole is making a statement. 11-0 and Tank with a grannie. Love it even if it may be too late. Go out swinging and with pride 1. They didn't get the memo the season is over this week. 2. Over joyed that vacation time is coming. 3. Back to their comfort zone as being the tallest midget.
  6. The Sox are playing like a person who reached the end of a video game and is only playing for points.
  7. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) Why even run him out there? For what? He's going to be a free agent so why risk the injury? Why should that be the Sox concern?
  8. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) Tigers wont do s*** in the playoffs anyway. Got decent starters. Cabrera is hot. They could do some damage.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) Late night baseball may eliminate the Angels and Rays. If the A's win tonight, they clinch at least a wild card spot. Yankees will have a 1 game lead with 2 left over the O's. I may watch the As tonight. The could win the division.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Peralta just homered off Chen. 1-0 Tigers. Will we survive to fight another day? No. The team has assumed they are out of it. Players actually performing is the indication.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) Yes, and no, a lot for 2013 depends on Danks and Konerko. We have the flexibility to trade Dunn/Rios/Ramirez/Thornton/Crain/Floyd and go with more youth should we choose to do so. Trayce Thompson and Carlos Sanchez both made huge strides as prospects. If Thompson can succeed at the big league level, that will make up for a lot of the production we're going to lose. That said, 3B continues to be a huge worry (most are now leaning against the YOUK option, but would like to keep him SOMEHOW) and so does Tyler Flowers being the everyday catcher, DeAza playing CF again and Viciedo hitting RHers and Beckham being consistent ever again. Might be the 2nd coming of Adam Dunn. 144 Ks. But 18 SB.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 06:30 PM) Lets not get Dan Johnson fever. If he was a better bet than Konerko, his career up to this point would show it. This is an older player, and there's no mystery about him. Last year it was Viciedo fever. After Anderson was a bust, it was Jerry Owens fever.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 07:42 PM) Except the Sox. we should be use to that by now.
  14. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 01:06 AM) I actually like having a DH who can hit bombs. I want one who can drive in runs, creates intentional walks, doesn't fan more than his average. HRs look nice on the back of baseball cards. Part of the problem is Kenny probably looks at the back of baseball cards to make decisions.
  15. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 12:46 AM) whoops. I dont get your post to be honest....IMO they made all the right moves in the last 2 years. I disagree on the DH by committee unless they get a big bopper that can play multiple positions. Pre Dunn it was pretty clear the sox needed another bopper at the DH. Dunn may have a low average and a low Obp this year but he's been productive, thats what you ask for in a DH, production. I'd be interested in seeing the stats on players coming from the NL to the AL, I think its a bit of a mirage. But they haven't made the right moves. It's over priced mediocrity. Dunn has not been productive for a #3 hitter. His high K rate takes you out of rallies. Pitchers don't pitch around him. History is not good for the Sox signing NL talent because they don't sign the top players.
  16. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 08:18 PM) The most talented teams to not make the playoffs were the 2003 and 2006 teams. This team really did over achieve. I give KW credit for not trading away the farm just to keep them in the chase. We pretty much got Youk, Liriano and Myers for nothing. Did it work out in the end, NO. But we can now go to the drawing board knowing what you have, and what you need. Also, for the first time- we will have $ to spend on FA's. Trading pieces: Sell high on Rios! He never has 2 solid years in a row and it will be nice to free up even more money! I would like to trade Rios for more farm depth. Biggest need for 2013- Pitching! Lets turn this around for next year! We are getting closer!! There was nothing on the farm to trade. People are fooled by this season into thinking the farm system is decent. When Viciedo was in the minors, no one knocked on the door for a trade. Brent Morel and Tyler Flowers are not an answer unless you somehow get Cabrera, Fielder, Hamilton, Pujols in your line up. I'd sell Dunn first. I'll take a chance on Rios having 2 solid years instead of a former NL who Ks too much to make an AL team better.
  17. The point of my thread is not about individual players but how the organization goes about things.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) If the reports are true and Hahn is the GM, I do think things will be a little different, but not drastically especially if KW is still around. Hahn has been more involved in recent years in all aspects, I think before he basically was a contracts guy, so there's that. I think the difference is he will do the leg work and be the point man with the other teams instead of KW, it will be interesting how the offseason goes. There should be some money to spend. John Danks should be back. Its, IMO, not nearly the doom and gloom some predict. They are still in the AL Central. I don't see how anyone can say Detroit will definitely be better. If a couple of bullpen guys step up and guys like Quintana can show this year wasn't a fluke and build on it, there should be no reason they can't be in the race next season. I wonder if they will try to re-sign Youk or if he is heading back to Boston to play 1B. I'm looking at the bigger picture. We don't do well with NL players. NL stats don't translate to AL stats unless they are bad ones. If Coop believes in pitching to contact, is this the same philosophy in A-AAA? Is Coop no longer effective and may be best he moved to minor league instruction? At least this offseason the organization is keeping their mouths shut about next year.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) Why doesn't Dan Johnson play? Managers get in this rut with "go with who got ya there" instead of giving the best chance to win. You should see plenty of Johnson for 3 games.
  20. The Rays are hot but it's too late.
  21. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) Has anyone mentioned that the White Sox are 10 games under .500 when playing teams not named the Minnesota Twins or the Seattle Mariners? I think we were just fooled by this team....too much smoke and mirrors for too long. Everyone knew Detroit was a better team going into 2012....it just took them until the last week of the regular season to exert their superiority. What's depressing is that there is so little to look forward to in 2013. The rotation will be Sale-Floyd-Danks QUESTION MARK - QUESTION MARK. And that's adding to the fact that Floyd and Danks are question marks in their own right. Sure, the team will be $24 million lighter with Peavy and Pierzynski leaving (although they really should re-sign AJ), but what evidence is there that the Sox will be spending this offseason? Not to mention the GAPING hole at 3B. There were a lot of fans not fooled if you judge by attendance. But the reason why they were there was playing solid baseball that seem to have evaporated. When the GM in 2011 gives a hint that bad baseball is possible in 2012, you've already alienated people. They have said anything this season but since it's the Sox organization, you assumed the worst for 2013.
  22. From the mod at motown sports. 12 games ago the Tigs were 9 over 500, the Sox were 15. Since then the Sox have lost 10/12 and the Tigs have won 8/12. It's a been a very nice run to the finish for the Tigs for sure, but if the Sox had just played 500 we are still a game back. Pretty epic collapse by the Palehose. If Boston hadn't done what they did last year maybe it would be standing out more right now. OUCH! Detroit is the one who avoided an epic collapse.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) That's what they said about 2012's draft too, but we've actually seen some early success so far. Which ones are you referring too?
