Sox could remain in 1st place by tomorrow night.

I don't like that 4 game series with Tampa. Sox are bad in 4 game series. Tampa is also better than the Sox. -
I remember back in the 80's a team would use their starter in extra innings. I'd still rather have someone who pitches to contact. We will probably never see 20 game winners on teams with losing records anymore.

Cabrera has a great chance at the triple crown.

They need to be punched in the nuts.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Who cares? It is what it is. Like Rongey said, it's just baseball and the Sox were in contention all year. Just think when we have a season like the Cubs. They've been irrelevant since well before the all star break. The Sox like Fathom said are very very flawed. Because of all the injuries and lack of fan support at home, not giving us much of a homefield advantage, it's been a good season no matter what. They might win, might not. At least we're done with KC and Detroit. Well put. If Detroit can't wrap this thing up playing KC and Minnie as many times as they do, Leyland deserves to get canned. Detroit is a heavy heavy favorite right now. At some point people have to get tired of that mindset. That is "Cub like". It's really kind of stupid to base a season's success on how well the other team in town performs. Part of me wishes the Sox would move out of Chicago and even IL.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) I decided to look up some 2nd half numbers to see if anyone was performing better than they did in the first half. Of the main guys on the team, the only players with a higher batting average since the ASB than before it are: - Dunn (.208 before, .210 after) - Ramirez (.266 before, .275 after) Konerko was .329 before, and .266 after. Quietly, Rios is hitting .045 points worse in the 2nd half. Youk's .065 points lower in the 2nd half. As for the pitching, Floyd, Jones and Santiago have shown the most improvement since the ASB. Peavy's ERA is 1.35 runs higher, Sale's is 1.46 higher, Crain/Thornton about .8 runs higher, Reed's ERA was 4.06 before the ASB and 5.91 after. Quintana's ERA was 2.04 in the 1st half, and 5.06 in the 2nd half. Honestly, I'm not quite sure how this team has managed to stay in first this long. Guys like Flowers, Wise and Veal have contributed a lot since the ASB. Wow! Nice homework. I would think Paulie's drop in average has a lot to do with the .210 average batting in the 3 spot that Ks too much.

QUOTE (Baron @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 11:08 PM) It doesnt matter if they really need it. This is a really important time in baseball. They need to be in the lineup. They can rest after the season. They get paid to get it done in times like these. Get it done. If they need rest then they should be doing something else.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 10:42 PM) It's nice to know we're set for the future with Beckham at 2B. He's hit well enough to be our second baseman. Next year's infield is a big question mark however. No third baseman right now, Alexei at short needs to find his power stroke, Becks at second and can Paulie rebound from surgery at first (I'm assuming surgery is forthcoming). DeAza has cooled off as a center fielder; Tank figures to get better and Rios appears to have found himself. At catcher, AJ probably won't hit 26-30 homers as he has this year. Starting pitching should be similar to this year, though we will have to find a stud to replace Peavy. Just replacing him with one of our many fill in guys of this year won't cut it. Lotta work for the new GM to do. I so disagree with that. He's been a much better situational hitter this season. How many guys do we need to hit 20 or more HR on this team? I really don't miss those patented Ramirez foul ball home runs every other at bat.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) At some point it would be nice to see the sox look to balance the equation a bit with our offense. It's the same issue as we have seen for years. When we click we hit home runs and score in bunches. When we go cold it's a series of pop ups and almost warning track shots. We need to be able to sustain the ability to score to help out the pitching. It can't be where the pitching has to be perfect to win. Look at what we've become. A pitcher has a qs and we lament what a bad outing he had. 4 runs and we start to look at tomorrow's matchups. That's sad. The offense needs to pick it up now. That's all on Kenny. Even the players he brings from the outside are power first guys.

QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) If we somehow come back and win this game, it would definitely re-energize the team. And then hopefully Minnesota gets lucky and wins both games tomorrow... both in extra innings. Why not dream a little? There's not enough drugs in the world to create that hallucination.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) If you think Quintana hasn't shown some stones this year...welcome to White Sox baseball. Glad you're enjoying your first game with us and i hope we can come back to make it extra special for you. LOL! I guess that's what happens from watching too many Javy V Peavy outtings. Did you see who was warming up? That kid who just called up. Even if the Sox don't win this game, watching Q in that inning was worth watching.
