GAME. THREAD. 9/13 Detroit @ White Sox
kitekrazy replied to Cerbaho-WG's topic in 2012 Season in Review
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) Psychologically, we have the fear/phobia with Verlander now that existed against Sabathia and Johan Santana. You take your chances with Fister, and are happy that Sale can hopefully go out and beat the Twins, instead. Of course, the value of Sale beating Verlander and that confidence gain, wow. But losing three in a row, not so inspirational. But Sale has been SO GOOD at home this year, 9-2, ERA of around 1.70. Psychologically, they have the fear/phobia with a s*** load of stuff. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) Not sure how to feel about this. Is it going to be the final game of the season, if necessary..or schedule on an off-day? MLB and ESPN would obviously love if it was the deciding Game 162, or lead to Game 163. So I guess it's Monday, then... Gives us a chance to build up another game lead in the standings, both teams will have to travel back, but short flights. Maybe it gives the Sox a chance to get some positive momentum going again. It would be Fister's "normal" turn to go Monday, if they go Verlander/A. Sanchez/Porcello this weekend. That's why the Sox need to win the division by 3. Why get b**** slapped in front of the whole nation again? -
He draws resentment for not beating the Tigers in a winnable game. He folds in big games. His bulldog mentality is bulls*** and it sure doesn't transfer to his teammates.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) Iguchi, Tadahito. We needed to have imported a designated bunter from Korea or Japan who actually was schooled well in ALL the fundamentals of baseball. Fundamental baseball is almost extinct in America.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) I say in all seriousness, f*** the Bears. It is baseball season. I'll worry about you later. I approve of this post. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) No one has said he's an ace. His salary is irrelevant. He had major surgery. Most on this board, even the people complaining about him would have to admit he's exceeded their expectations. Who had those low expectations?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 12:27 AM) Peavy is an OK pitcher, nothing special. He's worth the going rate for No. 3 starters, whatever those guys get on the open market. I guess to be fair he's a 2 or 3 starter. I happen to think he's more a 3. I'll be shocked if he gets huge money, but I guess Boston has the money to give him now. When it comes to pitchers, owners spend like Washington politicians.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:19 AM) Lately? Agreed. On the season? Quite the opposite - they have shown time and time again they bounce back after seemingly devastating losses. Losing the to the Tigers seem to benefit them more than the Tigers. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 07:37 AM) Keep in mind a few White Sox pitchers who never bunt or even hit, successfully laid down bunts this season and past seasons. Its really not that difficult. I disagree with having him bunt, but to think he's incapable because he doesn't have sac bunts in his past is wrong. Considering the pitch he struck out on, it doesn't appear Youk had much of a chance if he was hitting away anyway. Also it was against Benoit not Fister. Also when Jim Thome was with the Sox and they had the shift on for him, I remember many complaints "why doesn't Thome bunt" to foil the shift. Funny how many of those same people change their tunes. It didn't matter anyway. Youkilis was destined to fan. Somehow it is when you wear that White Sox uniform and your name is not Juan Pierre.

I'm surprised he even came up with an answer like that other than saying, "I messed up".

Momentum - word not found in White Sox Dictionary. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:01 PM) Garcia comes to mind for me. He was always on when e faced a good team. Hopefully we will be saying this about Chris Sale. (not tomorrow)
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:55 PM) Jack McDowell is probably the closest thing to a "big game" pitcher the Sox have had since I have watched them. Big time. He was another ace that produced team confidence.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 11:23 PM) Don Cooper continues to support Septimo and his 3-6, 2 homers and 5 walks allowed in high leverage situations this year (stat taken from WSI) At some point you have to wonder if there is someone better than Cooper. Plus Sox scouting can't provide a future catcher or 3b. I think AJ and Youk will be here, That's a lot of money invested in old guys but the alternatives are worse. It seems this organization has plenty of OF. So trade there or a veteran for (ugh) prospects.
-
Why is it that the Sox fold big time against a division rival this century. Games are rarely close.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) -Youk proved he can hit Benoit - Using Septimo over Veal is a decision that I can't even imagine there being a logical explanation for - Why is Omogrosso being used as the sacrificial lamb against Cabrera? - Not having a lefty warming up in the pen when Omogrosso was facing Cabrera with Prince up next is the type of thing that is inexcusable - Having Santiago throw over 50 pitches after two days rest since his last start where he threw over 90 pitches is absolutely ridiculous With the team struggling and injuries playing a big part, you hope your coaching staff can help you pull out games you probably don't deserve to win. Instead, it's causing the Sox to lose games they have a chance to win. The biggest mystery is there are a two other coaches on this bench and stupid decisions still come about.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:47 PM) 535. Man I'm just to frustrated right now. And plus I listened to the 9th on the radio...just to hear Farmer say there is, "no professionalism" in the game now while he b****ed about Valverde for an inning (for the record I can't stand his antics, but don't spend an entire inning of a broadcast b****ing about it) I've met Tiger fans who hate Valverde more than most Sox fans.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:40 PM) Robin must have planned a trip to Spain the first week in October. He doesn't want to manage past 10/3. It would be nice if he stuck around and managed this month.
-
Well, now to watch Oakland turn LA into has beens.
-
Just another tease after being b**** slapped.
-
It would be so nice if Youk is back on track
-
QUOTE (chisoxt @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) I want to see Robin change pitchers in the middle of an at bat. I wouldn't rule out an Adam Dunn bunt either.
-
QUOTE (chisoxt @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) Donny Veal??? Now??? Veal is the Designated Pitcher. The only guy that comes in to face Fielder.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) I'm thinking a lot of this is mental. Once it gets to 8-1 and the pressure is off the Sox score a bunch. Now that it's a three-run game and we technically are back in the game, the hitters will be all tight and fail again. The lap dance is over.
-
I feel like we are getting teased.
