QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) After 2008, where we haven't seen any significant improvement from Danks and Floyd. I'd say the Tigers coach has done a much better job. Plus their scouting of pitchers is excellent. (I'm leaving Verlander out of this equation)

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:36 PM) I'm stunned that Omogrosso and Septimo couldn't get out two of the best hitters on the planet. Someone needs to ask Cooper why Septimo seemed to just start warming up after Cabrera's "shocking" single off of Omogrosso. It was shades of when Reed was brought in when he wasn't warmed up vs the Mariners. Anyone ever think that Cooper lost his magic wand?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) We need a postponed Game 162 against the Tigers with the White Sox being down by one going into the last game...Sale versus Verlander/Scherzer in Chicago. Win Game 163 vs. Detroit and then storm through the playoffs. Bears vs. Packers tomorrow. No one in Chicago cares about Sale vs. Verlander.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:25 PM) It's worth asking whether head-to-head is a valid way to measure it. A team may not be good in general, but the individual matchup of two teams allows the generally worse team to be better head-to-head. Is it more important that you can beat a wide variety of teams or that you beat a particular, good one? That is the beauty of baseball. It's beyond annoying though that whoever battles the Sox for 1st always b**** slaps them. There has to be a way to fix this.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:18 PM) You just realized this I amazed actually. They are very good on paper and they are in 2nd place which many label the weakest division in baseball. I find it more impressive the less experienced players on the Sox have fared better than veterans when it comes to pitching. You knew Sale would be good but not Cy Young candidate good.

Maybe Detroit is a better team that's under achieving.

Well on the bright side, FLoyd's return looks promising. I still don't know why they didn't walk Jackson.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:55 PM) Well, this is a familiar scenario against the Tigers this year. Crooked numbers put up vs. our pitchers when they've been cruising along. At least Scherzer is already over 100 pitches at this point...but it's not like their bullpen is garbage. Last night was the turning point. We are back to being their b****es.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) oh come on. when they hit they find the gap. when we hit it...grr We would too if we had a potential triple crown winner in our lineup. We use to see that with the Big Hurt.

Hate to say it. Cabrera = stud.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:34 PM) Austin Jackson terrifies me. Also, this is an absurdly quick hook for Gavin. I don't like this. He has the most RBIs aganst the Sox. The manager is starting to cost them more games.
-
SHoulda walked Jackson.
-
I would totally freak if they beat Max and V.
-
Hard to believe Max leads the team in giving up homers.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) Scherzer looks just like the dude from Fargo... LOL! He does!

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) Yep, much more likely to get the run home by stealing 2nd and then Konerko singles to right. Konerko doesn't appear to be doing well with RISP.

QUOTE (Baron @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) I agree except for the pat on the ass Last night I wanted to kick him in the nuts.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) Gavin looking DIRTY Thanks for bringing that up. Scherzer is awesome but Floyd looks good too.

Anyone still pissed out that Gio trade?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) Gordon Beckham=Brent Lillibridge 2011 At least this week. Strange how managers always tend to want to go with veterans down the stretch, whether they're grizzled retreads or completely inexperienced first-year guys. UNLESS, they just told Hudson...your job is to bunt every single time AT Cabrera. The funny thing is that I've seen probably 30-40 Tigers' games this season and that running in on the bunt and throwing across his body is one of the things he does the best. I've only seen him make 1 or 2 errors. It's usually the routine plays that trip him up. And, of course, his lack of range. For a guy that's over weight he's played just about every game.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) Sorry but in big games Jake Peavy does not remind me of Bob Gibson. I appreciate how hard he has worked to become competitive again, but I still wish he could back up his bravado when it really counts. As for WAR, it's a dreadfully flawed stat, and baseball-reference greatly changed how it was calculated this May. more like Debbie Gibson The latter is what pisses me off more than anything. He had Kenny fooled.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 06:09 AM) What the hell? I won't say he dominated, but he leaned more towards that than he did choking. Choking is giving up 5 runs in less than 6 innings to play. He had a good game. Not great or awesome, but a good game. Choking? Did Sox fans forget what choking was? I'll give you examples, it was Esteban Loaiza complaining he didn't get enough run support when he was actually getting top 5 run support. It was Shingo Takatsu wetting the bed all the way back overseas, it was Javier Vazquez losing before the game even started. Peavy vs. winnable game against Tigers = choking.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) Beckham homers two nights in a row and gets benched, makes sense. Reminds me of the previous manager.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Time for Floyd to step up. and Jake Peavy.....darn, too late.
