  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) DET announcers complaining about Sanchez' performance with them this year....leaving way too many balls up in the zone, control/command, etc. I really like the Tigers broadcast. They keep you interested in the game most of the time and they educate with stats. Miles above the ESPN broadcast of last night. Nice peg by the Clev catcher on Infante.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 01:17 PM) If Cleveland wins, Ceasar will be doing his crying elsewhere the rest of his life. Wasn't that also dependent upon a Sox win?
  3. A nice Morrisey article. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/14895611-41...x-just-yet.html
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) I think it is lazy reporting. What next? the yankees outdrew the mets? I guess a new stadium will do that.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) I think it is lazy reporting. What next? the yankees outdrew the mets? I wish I could remember but I think it was Ed Farmer who mentioned something about Sox/Cub attendance during to 2005 celebration. It was very witty.
  6. QUOTE (spiderman @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) The fact is - in August, Dunn and Rios have struggled, and Peavy/Sale haven't been able to beat Detroit. Imagine if Cabrera and Fielder struggled all of August. Where would they be now?
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) I don't disagree with this statement. It's one thing for Jake to talk to himself during a game for motivation, but when he chimes in about how he is looking forward to pitching the big game and then blows it that's a different story I don't mind that either. He should want to go back out there after failure. It's just the other stuff he's. The over hype has become over kill. Gavin Floyd has been more reliable in 3 years than Peavy. Showing up is important. Staying healthy is part of a players responsibility. Jake has only won 15 or more twice in his career. Mark B. did that his first 4 years. I still think wins are part of the equation. Maddux won 20 on some losing Cub teams. That's what real aces do. They win even on bad teams. It's not all them but the confidence they put in a team when they are on the mound. Chris Sale will be an ace. He probably is now. Hopefully the handle him the same way next year.
  8. Cleveland 2-1. I have no faith in that. Are they close to being Astro's bad yet?
  9. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) Chicago is a loser town. Of course they would support the Cubs. Only the normal people support the White Sox. I guess that article would imply there are less normal people. I have no idea what the fan base is with the Bulls but winning a lot seems to buy you a lot of future fans. You see kids with Jordan jerseys that weren't born when he played.
  10. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) Just read an article by Ted Gregory about the Cubs outdrawing the Sox: Cubs outdraw Sox (nothing new) What do you guys think about this? Thanks for posting this. carborough's research also shows that nearly 40 percent of adults who attend Cubs game are college graduates Most college grads these days are sheeple. You have to wonder how forgiving a fan base is when Einhorn put them on a seclusive channel. Wirtz alienated a fan base and I really don't know if they have recovered. The organization lost out on an opportunity when Cubs did day games. Pursuing the superstation WGN should have been ther goal instead of Sportsvision or whatever it was. You also wonder how things would have turned out if the Sox went to Schaumburg. Maybe people feel where Wrigley is located is less threatening than the Cell. Which is sad and ignorant. In August, Chicago is a Bears town and it has nothing to do with how good or bad they are. I think a lot of it has to do with fans not trusting Sox ownership. People have joked about the Sox running like a 3rd market team in a 1st market city.
  11. If you look at Peavy's career stats he's no #54. Note to Kenny-no more $$$ on NL talent.
  12. Peter Gammons -key to the rest of the season is Sale and Cy so long ago Peavy. The latter needs to step up and shut up.
  13. Day baseball. No more Sunday night crap. Leave it to the NFL and Nascar. No more Tigers stadium. It's a new day. Go Indians!!! BTW the AL East is going to be interesting this week along with the Central.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 01:14 AM) .255 batting average 19 hrs and 58 ribbies. Yuck. His OBP is .291. He's having a blah season, folks. Nineteen homers isn't horrendous, but since he's trying to hit a home run every at bat like Dunn, he ought to have at least 25 with all those at bats. The verdict is out on this guy ... sadly. I really was hoping for superstardom. Wow! Where's the rationality in this? He's a rookie. People think transitioning from the minors/college to MLB is llike college to the NFL. I guess they should have gave up on De Aza a long time ago. Where you expecting him to be the Big Hurt? I thought this guy would kill the Sox on defense. I have no complaints about him.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) Unless he decides to walk away, it sure is. If he didn't get canned last year, there is no way he's getting canned this year. They have exceeded their own expectations. He wanted to last season. Jerry talked him out of it.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) I see greg's point here as well as knightni's. The issue with Viciedo is indeed perplexing. Ramirez made it to the bigs and performed right away. It has taken Viciedo something like 3-4 years. I think he is enamored with the home run and that's what I see wrong right now. I think that hared long swing he is taking trying to hit every ball amile is the problem. He needs to cut down on the swing and make contact more up the middle and to right. He can do it and looks pretty good when he tries that approach, but usually it's hard and harder with his swings and he wants to pull everything. A bit more major league experience can help. He is young, can learn through good coaching and I think worth keeping. What kid with power isn't? So is our GM usually at the expense of defense and fundamentals.
  17. It seems like the Sox are good at developing pitchers and OF. What are the catcher and 3b prospects like? These seem like a major area of need.
  18. I like the work you've done. It looks like both teams struggle with Baltimore.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) Oh I know it'll never happen, because they want teams to finish "First" so they can print t-shirts and have less travel. But let's not kid ourselves--the AL Central is a f***ing joke, and the playoff format is more flawed than ever. And you're just wrong about the parity in baseball. But whatever. I see you figured that out. Your idea is very logical and would be great with a shorten regular season but the owners wouldn't buy into it. In a MLB model Indianapolis doesn't keep a Peyton Manning for long. Also early draft position doesn't improve a team dramatically. If the Buffalo Bills have a great player, no one says "soon to be a Patriot" but when it comes to baseball it's "soon to be a Yankee".
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) We've moved from 29th in future power ratings to 21st in a single season. That seems like progress to me. Last offseason, you might have argued the Astros were the only franchise in worse shape. What changes did the Sox organization make? They must have done something since it doesn't appear as doom and gloom.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) I'm not disagreeing with you, but unless they lose the last 33 games of the season, KW will be back next year, guaranteed. I think he would still be back. He's Jerry's boy. Guillen tested that last year.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) That's your argument for firing KW this off-season? It's not going to fly. You might as well rest until the end of 2013...and make another set of arguments. Everyone knew Dayan was a work in progress when we first signed him. The fact that he's been forced to play 3B, 1B, RF and then LF should be enough testament to his defensive development track alone. They just need to let him play. Nobody knows about Danks...and Nathan Jones overall compared to where he was 1-2 years ago in the minors, nobody expected him to make the impact he has. If he went on the waiver wire tomorrow, every team in the majors would claim him. I have no complaints with Viciedo this season. There was unrealistic expectations starting last year that he was going to save the season. I thought he was going to be a butcher in the outfield and he's done quite well and a helluva arm.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Yep, like Flowers trying to steal Still can't believe the lack of bunting. It will be interesting if Hawk/Stone comment on it tomorrow. That ball almost went into CF. Too bad he's slow and didn't get the best jump. The old grindy Twins in the baggie dome would probably give the current Tiger's team fits. They would beat the ball in the ground and capitalize on poor defense.
