There's the Twins factor, the Royals factor..........It seems we have kicked ass against the West this year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) The "Twins' factor" against the Tigers is clearly ONE thing that should actually give us some confidence, because the traditional White Sox ways of beating the Tigers the last 2-3 seasons simply haven't worked. We've lost 5 in a row this season and 16 out of our last 19 in DET. The curse has simply shifted east. Gavin Floyd and Contreras were our pitchers who typically did the best against the Tigers, and Gavin hasn't exactly inspired much confidence this year. I'd love to see the AL standings in 2 out runs surrendered by the Sox in the 2nd half. That would be pretty indicative of our lack of "clutch" pitching since the All-Star Break, as well as a lot more breakdowns from our defense than the first 85+ games of the year. From observing Tigers' games the past two weeks even in their losses there is still some fight in them in the late innings. With the Sox it seems after a few innings they've made up their minds it's a loss and they want to leave the game. The kids are showing up more than the veterans. This is an emotionally lazy team. Couldn't they at least have a small dugout celebration when a player gets on base? These things may not change the outcome of the game but I get tired of watching the damn sulking. Show your fan base you have some life for cryin out loud. If they get swept, hopefully it doesn't transfer to the next series. They can still make it to the post season playing good baseball. If baseball is full of streak then maybe they were due for a losing streak.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) I guess that's one way of looking at it. I will give Kenny credit for not doing anything too stupid during the season. But yet, it's still going to be a Kenny Williams team that didn't make the playoffs. I mean, enough is enough with him. It's time for a new GM. It has been for a couple years now. I think he gets a pass.

I'm not sure I wast to waste a late afternoon watching pathetic baseball. A good Sale outing might go to waste.

QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) Wonder what Beckham was saying to Prince. Hopefully it was "teach me how to hit".

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) We need to do a better job either vetting players we pick up for testicular fortitude or do a better job at prepping players that they move through the system. Year after year of the post asb choke to the teams that they need to beat. It's the baseball equivalent of how teams attack the Blackhawks. Punch the sox right in the mouth, run your mouth against them and then watch them crumble and counter. Sometimes I think it's better to get players from winning organizations. But eventually they get that Sox stink on them and fall in line.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:39 PM) Fuuu IP ban at another board What does that mean?

I wouldn't count on any help from the Indians.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:34 PM) It's truly amazing to me that KC swept this team with how awesome the Tigers 1-5 hitters are right now. I guess they like the Sox pitching much like the Sox like the Rangers' pitching.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) And don't forget the token comment by Sox manager saying the particular series isn't all that important. I thought that manager quit last year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) If the Sox don't make the postseason, it will be a very interesting offseason. In my stupid opinion, I don't think we see Youk, Peavy or AJ back if that happens. OH I think the opposite. This season wasn't suppose to be this way. You're close to a division and been fighting injuries with the pitching staff. Definitely not Peavy and hopefully they get something for Adam Dunn.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) There's nothing to do but laugh anymore. Why get upset or frustrated? Pointless. I kinda makes you feel like a Northsider with the consistent choke jobs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) Or the catcher/coaching staff has no faith in being able to block a pitch in the dirt with a man on 3rd Good point. I believe that was a reason why Jenks was using his curve less and less. AJ couldn't catch it.

A gift there

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) He's been very good this year, all things considered. Garcia wasn't touching an offspeed pitch from him. Yep. Kids get too confident in their 99mph fastball and forget major leaguers can hit those.

Nate Jones is on my mental midget list.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) If they can't win at home against bad teams in September, they're cooked. It's hard to imagine beating DET 3/4 with how things are going right now against the Tigers. Look at the Sox stats in 4 game series. Owned!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) Not unlike Peavy in the 7th last night. I had no problem with Peavy starting. He's suppose to be an elite pitcher and if he wants that big money next season, he needs to earn it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:46 PM) Uribe's best days are long gone So are Beckham's. Plus Uribe can play 3 positions.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) Nice call Robin. Let's let him get smacked around hard just one last time before we call it a day. He deserves the chance to do that. It's terrible how a weak hitting lineup makes the starting pitching look worse than it is.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:42 PM) Great call, and it's why it seems so hard for him to hit line drives the left field. Reminds me of the old Rios. Kenny needs to bring in some competition for 2nd in Spring training and see if it will light a fire on his ass. I think that's part of the problem. Too bad Uribe wasn't on waivers.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) lol gordon lol Hes been abysmal for three years now. But yeah, he'll turn the corner any day now. The sad thing is that was one of the better at bats by the Sox this whole game. His batting stance sucks. Looks like he his leaning back on his heals.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:28 PM) Cabrera and Prince with insane OPS numbers since the ASB. Looking at all the numbers for the Tigers, it makes no sense why they haven't run away with things since the ASB. Gotta be their defense. Also lack of production from the 5th spot.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:28 PM) Rios is batting .300 vs righties. We don't need power from Lexei. He's on an 11 game hit streak as well I think. Both are hitting over .300 with RISP. It was a bummer when Alexei popped up last night. Stink spreads on this team.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:22 PM) Well, Sox need someone to step up (besides Flowers/Axelrod). Everyone else has seemingly taken the week off. I trust Sale more than anyone on this team to go out there and perform well. Too bad they can't rely on the Cy Young winner. I'm afraid Sale is going to try to over pitch in this situation.
