  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) Cy Young could have started for the White Sox and it still wouldn't matter because the offense can't score against Scherzer or get a hit with RISP. Still 0 for the series in a game and a half in that category. Not unlike the Tigers in KC. Thanks to Dyson and Cain, or the Sox would be looking at trailing the Tigers in the standings after tonight by 1 game instead of still ahead by 1. 2 runs are like 7 when the team isn't hitting.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) Can we get a rain out tomorrow please? That would be ideal...more rest for Sale especially. Somehow I get the feeling that would backfire. I totally hate the idea of putting a 1st year starter in this position.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) It happened to the Twins against the Sox in 2008...the Tigers the following season against the Twins. It's not ONLY the White Sox. And let's face it, the Tigers have a lot more talent, overall, than the White Sox. I would say that would be the other way around.
  4. QUOTE (Caesar @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) The Sox are mentally weak. They do this always. They let teams get inside their heads. It isn't surprising at all. That's hard to ignore. I guess there is no stat to prove this. To me that labels the Sox of the 21st century. Manuel, Guillen and possibly Ventura can't fix that.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:05 PM) I still wouldn't mind keeping Liriano around next year, but I wouldn't pay much for him. It will be better for Coop to work with a guy in ST than after the trade deadline.
  6. Why is it that the OF always seems way out of position?
  7. Put the ball in play and wait for a Tiger's mistake.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 05:47 PM) Play like game like a playoff game. If he gives you 5 good innings, you hope the pen can win it for you. I can't recall the last time the Sox did this. Maybe the last two weeks of 05.
  9. I'm watching this on the Tigers network on MLB. Excellent camera work, announcers keep you focused on the game, they post interesting stats about players on both teams. It's real top notch and probably superior to ESPN.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Where did all the Sox fans go? Saturday night? You would think it was late 2007 or September 2011. This should have been a day game.
  11. Imagine next season Beckham batting 8th, Morel 9th or even letting AJ go and go with Flowers. I would rather smash my toes with a ball peen hammer than watch the end of the Sox order.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) Barring something unforeseen (deep postseason run), I think they'd pick up Youk's option only if they could shed some salary elsewhere. Say a Thornton or Ramirez. They're going to have to use whatever available funds they have first to figure out the rotation. Hmmmm.......maybe by not over paying Peavy. Hopefully Kenny will find a NL to take Dunn. He's not an AL hitter. You will never fill the hole at 3rd on the cheap. Even paying Youk his option is probably worth less headaches than they've experienced. (see Josh Fields, Mark Teahen-I don't care if I spell his name wrong) I would also imagine the ownership expects an attendance increase after this season.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) Go to MotownSports, they're even more miserable Imagine Soxtalk in September 2005, x5 They should be. They added Fielder and are in 2nd place to a bunch of kids. Plus most of their team can't catch a baseball.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 02:00 PM) I'd like to nominate this for "stupid contradicting post of the year" Seriously, just say you think the Tigers will win the AL Central instead of implying the White Sox are trying to fall in the standings. I think that was the point and it was aimed at the dark clouds.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) He is now going to be the Geoff Blum of the Sox for the rest of the season...hopefully including the playoffs. BTW, Angels are quickly getting back in WC race. Already back to 9 games over .500 and climbing again. Guess we can thank the Yankees for beating the O's. Strange to be cheering for them against the Orioles, of all teams. Just as long as he doesn't strike out like Dunn. Putting the ball in play creates chances for the Tigers to beat themselves.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) Detroit is an underachieving unlikeable team. Unfortunately Sox appear to be tight when they play them and can't beat them head to head. So Detroit is gonna stick around. That 4 game series at the Cell will keep Detroit in it til the bitter end IMO. It's unfortunate that a lot of the Sox good work this season is being nullified in head to head games against just a few teams - Detroit, KC, Balt and Boston. The inability to catch a baseball will kill you against good teams.
  17. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 12:14 PM) Worst thing eva for a team with a high payroll is a long, contending season that sells tickets potentially followed by playoff revenue and an uptick in season ticket sales for the following season. I was going to click the link & listen but instead I think I'll go ahead and plug the ol' cornhole. One of the strangest posts I ever read. How much more money can they spend to improve the team? That made sense last year in the off season getting Fielder and paid a contract Hendry would approve of. Aren't they suppose to be much better, more dominant this season? What has happened is in Sept. they are in 2nd place to a team with a bunch of kids. Win now is somewhere close to depleted financially.
  18. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) BTW Liriano has a grand total of 1 game this year where he walked more than 4 (A game in which he walked 6 against Texas, but only gave up 1 run and got the W) This thread is a bucket of suck The exception is your post above. You are my favorite poster. Your avatar and positive posts are great therapy for the nay sayer. Keep up the good work.
  19. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 01:15 PM) Have other teams done this?? I don't remember how long MCab has been bothered by this but I dont recall seeing any highlights or anything of other teams continuing to attack him with bunts... I don't think it's a bad idea but nothing to get pissed about if they don't. As we saw when he tagged up yesterday he can still run. Sox aren't good at bunting anyway. You wouldn't know it by watching this week but quite a few guys in the lineup are hitting over .300 with RISP. Detroit's D is really bad like White Sox late 70's bad. Every time you put the ball in play is a good chance of beating them.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 01:44 PM) A win tonight will do a lot for everyone's mood. Even though the Tigers got swept in KC, let's not forget the Sox are 1-4 this week, and now have to face the Tigers best two pitchers. Wins make Sox fans happy, so let's get at least one before they come home. I have no idea how anyone would react if they took the next two.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) I swear Cub and Astros fans have to be the most miserable out there. Fixed.
  22. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) Sox are still ahead of Detroit, but we are chasing them and are not going to catch them. Tell that to the Sox or yell that to the Sox and tell them to stop playing like that.
