IS THIS THE END OF OUR FAITHFUL HEROES?
kitekrazy replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 12:21 PM) If they are serious get the best SP available. I have a sneaking suspicion that Danks will be shutdown for the season after the trade deadline. If they don't have a suitable replacement for him in place, I don't think they go to the postseason. Then you wonder how long Sale and Quintana is going to hold up. Hitting and confidence in the pen is the bigger ? to me. I doubt the 71 Orioles staff could win with this group right now. I want to see how Humer does on his next start. Even before this series the Tigers were putting up a lot of runs against the Angels. The sad thing is the Tigers have lot more for negotiating trades than the Sox. -
IS THIS THE END OF OUR FAITHFUL HEROES?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 09:26 PM) The other thing to remember is that the Tigers started off by ripping 6 in a row through the Twins and the Royals. Although they did just whip the Angels 3/4 before us...no excuse they didn't face Weaver, because the Tigers didn't use Verlander in that series. We have to take care of business against the Twins. Nothing less than 2/3, because the Angels are going to be tough for the rest of the season. This is something the Sox fail to do over the years. They can look like world beaters and take 3/4 from the Yankees then lose 2/3 to the Royals. -
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) Cubs had a shutout going vs the Cardinals, until they gave 12 (twelve) runs in the 7th... Did they borrow the Sox pen?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 06:46 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...18788--mlb.html One of the headline stories now at Yahoo. Scary. I guess she doesn't like forums.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) More like unload the payroll, hopefully we get Johnson! They did a poor job of spending that money.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) He is made for TV (as long as they are on a seven second delay)/ I don't see him being a problem on TV. It's a lot different when you don't have emotional interest in a team.

Expressing non-baseball opinions on B. Myers
kitekrazy replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
People repent. He can't undo the past. If he is still beating his wife then I understand the reaction. Still we have no idea what their relationship is like. People say and do things without striking a blow that causes others to commit suicide. Most men aren't going to file a complaint if their wife hits them. Females aren't what they use to be. They are getting to be like type a males. Look in public schools and you'll find girls aren't girls anymore. They are the ones committing violence. I don't know the details of this player and I don't care but there are two sides to every story. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Big game tomorrow...Dunn better be on the bench. I they could get a nice package for Dunn (probably a NL team), I'm all for it. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) Heard in 1997, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009-12. Been there, done that. The only time we weren't overreacting was 2008. 2000 and 2005, we ran out to huge leads and held on. The difference in 2005 is they faced the division rivals at the end of the season and put them away. They went 8-2. There was a lot more confidence in the pitching. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) Still way, way too early to lump Ventura in with the second half struggles of Ozzie and Manuel. My point is it may have very little to do with the managers. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) He will get at least next season, whether you like it or not. This season, up until this point, still has to be considered evidence of progress. The biggest deal, Molina for Santos, actually saved the White Sox $7.25 million in guaranteed salary...so you can bet that JR's not going to fire Williams for saving him from that catastrophe. Even the Danks and Peavy contracts were covered by insurance, so they're only losing 55-65 cents on the dollar. Rios, Dunn and Peavy all performed up to their abilities this year. That makes KW look a lot better...if the bullpen wasn't leading the AL in blown saves, we would still be in first place and things would look much more positive. That was the area he chose to go with youth (letting Frasor go, for example), and it has come back to bite him. But many were predicting 85-100 losses, and that clearly hasn't happened. The problem could be more JR. He's shown loyalty to former players and maybe there are people in the areas of scouting and development that are working only because they are buddies, family of friends, ect that wouldn't be working elsewhere. -

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:47 PM) You are all overreacting. It's a long season. Do you all remember Houston? You go through s*** like this over the course of 162 games. They're hot, we're not. We've been hot when they've been cold. It happens. Relax, it's July. Unfortunately history is no on your side. The Sox are not Houston. 3 managers in the new century and a majority of the story stays the same. -

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:47 PM) Soon enough the Tigers will come back down to earth, they just caught us at a bad time. A typical up and down season. Yes, imagine that......a baseball season full of ups and downs, Hmmm...I've never seen that before. The calls for blowing up the team already are insane and foolish. Let's just wait this thing out, it has been streaky all year. A good streak will come around, people need to relax We heard that last season. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) It is a reoccurring theme. Getting swept after the asb by our chief protagonist. http://www.southsidesox.com/2011/9/4/24053...reak-both-apply It always seems like their is a choke job in the previous series to set the table. -

It's reading the same book over and expect the ending to be different. I will still hold on to my theory that the organization lacks mental toughness. They are the Cubs of the AL. -

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) Why? it's Sunday. These guys need to rest. It's not like this was a gigantic game or anything.... Kinda reminds me of last year's manager. -
Will the next Sox-Tigers series at the Cell be meaningful?
kitekrazy replied to SouthSidePride05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:51 PM) When that series starts, there will be 23 games left. My guess is the Sox will be 3-5 games back when it starts. We'll be doing math problems, like if the Sox win 3 of 4, we'll be 2 out with 19 left. And then the Tigers will run the table with their weak schedule at the end. That's what makes a first place team. Post ASB Sox are not the best at beating team they are suppose to. They could sweep the Tigers and lose 4/6 to the Twins and Royals. -
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) Protip: It's free to join. Plus, it's not like this will be the only thing ever you read from the Tribune. I can't understand why a fan of a Chicago team would not have an account.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) I can't explain it, but coolstandings still favors the Sox in the division race. http://www.coolstandings.com/baseball_stan...sn=2012&i=1 I think you see the same almost every year on bigpapertigers.com.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) Thdre were only many witnesses that saw him beat the s*** out of her on the street. Give him a bat. Instead of hitting his wife he can hit a baseball. They need some of that right now.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) I just hope with this move KW is finished using precious resources for pitching and now concentrates on getting some position players that can hit. It may be one of those guys he always wanted like Tori Hunter.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) You can't always just buy a closer and expect immediate success. The main guy out there in the off season was Heath Bell. How's he doing these days? KW's crystal ball should have told him the Broxton was bouncing back from a miserable 2011. Too bad it was in the shop. Who's left? Thirty seven-year old type B free agent Francisco Cordero? Thirty seven-year old $14.5 mil Joe Nathan? Thirty eight-year old type B free agent Octavio Dotel? Been there. $12 million Frank Francisco? $8.5 mil Ryan Madson who's now hurt? Type A free agent Jonathan Papelbon who accepted $50 million? What magic do you want? Who was out there that's now doing well that fit in the budget? Buehrle couldn't even come back, you expected them to throw 15 mil at a reliever? How is Sergio Santos doing these days? Better than Reed? The way some have talked around here in the past, they act like it was the easiest position to fill. My point is Thorton can't close, never will. He's got one pitch. That's not a closer. How many chances do you take on that when even the casual fan knows that?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) One stupid pitch to Boesch. The rest was good, he was in control beyond that. Sometimes guys are due for a bad outing. Maybe it was his time.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) People have to stop talking like this. Seriously. Look at the payroll. Look at the players Kenny acquired over the years to win nothing, that actually did something in the first 84 games. This team is supposed to win games. The "would you have taken" scenarios are ridiculous. Practically all of the Sox teams this century has done something with the 1st half. They just seem to fail under pressure in the 2nd half. Nothing new under the sun here.
