  1. QUOTE (Indy_Soxer @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Best Headline Ive read in a while. Sorry Royals fans. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/..._medium=twitter The comments are hilarious.
  2. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) Hope he stays healthy.. It would be nice to see the whole team healthy at least for a series. I'm amazed this team is in first with all of the injuries.
  3. QUOTE (Indy_Soxer @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) No, I was told (seriously) the other day that the cubs have a better chance of making the postseason this year, by a Cubs fan. The average Cubs fan is delusional. They gotta have something. I guess it's better than nothing.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 06:05 AM) I would hope the lowest moment of a fan would actually have something to do with the team's performance and nothing to do with off-the-field drama. That's like getting more excited about the National Enquirer or Globe than the movies and t.v. shows the stars appear in in the first place... In all seriousness, Robin hasn't been as great as we're making him out to be, Ozzie wasn't the worst manager in baseball...it just feels that was because these arguments have become some polarized, back and forth, back and forth. If someone or anyone says something approaching reasonableness, nobody pays attention. No, but I think his experience of being successful at the plate and on the field has been helpful. He helped find a flaw in Dunn and the change in Rios at plate has made a difference. Ozzie and Cora were glove guys. Ozzie's a NL style manager. The Kotsay/Jones over Thome is a prefect example. It doesn't work in the AL.
  5. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) I just noticed that both the Sox and Cubs are on the road this weekend. Seems weird that there will be no baseball in Chicago over a mid-Summer weekend. Some Cub fans would say there is no baseball in Chicago this season.
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) By not having Ozzie But seriously, they got this good because of sucking and getting Strasburg and Harper. Then pulling off a great trade for Gio. Fleecing the Twins for Ramos (though he hasn't been playing this year, still a good deal). Having Zimmerman and Zimmermann. Drafting Storen. Signing E-Jax. Now obviously they lucked into two of the most talented draft picks of all time, but some good moves by that f***er Rizzo. So how long was it between the draft and those guys making it to the bigs. Sometimes I understand Kenny's philosophy. Unlike the NFL and NBA, it's hard for draft picks to make an immediate impact unless you trade them for a guy on a MLB roster.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) I was permanently banned from WSI.I got really tired of some of the mods playing god. Banned me for 2 weeks for fixing someone's post. It was just a harmless joke and I got a 2 week ban for it. In total I was probably banned for 2 months. Ah another refugee. One time they went crazy and started doing lifetime bans for those with multiple email accounts. We live in a transient society and people still use gmail, yahoo and hotmail because they lose their other accounts switching ISPs. They operate on fear since it is a large site. They are no where near as popular anymore since the participation is quite small. You might see 10 people participate on a thread at the most. I don't like how their mods do things but I like reading some of their posts. I got banned there for 6 months for violating the political correctness religion.
  8. Robin Ventura gets my RoY vote. Nice job for a 1st year manager with previous experience. I guess this organization grew em right in the pre KW era.
  9. f*** the Marlins. They were never significant to begin with. Question is are the Nationals that good? How would they far against top AL teams. How did they get this good?
  10. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) These Ozzie fights are ruining the board. Please keep it to the Marlins thread, which is ruined already. WhyTF is there a Miami Marlins thread? Where's the Pirates thread? The Marlins thread should be called Trolling for Greg. People know where Greg's weakness is and they blame him for their exploitation. Major Yawn. Greg can't let it go and a majority of members don't want him to either. (mods included)
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Today was definitely one of those days I would have been content with Sox losing as well as Tigers lost. Gotta find a way to win tomorrow or have the struggling Jerome Williams find a way to beat the Tigers and go into the weekend series at least up 2.5 games. I didn't think the Sox had a chance. You can't expect having success with all of the minor league pitchers. It would be nice if it were that way.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) Its not just Rios. It is a pattern of veteran players that were good before they got here, sucked for Ozzie, and then got better when they got away from him. Ah measuring a player in a vacuum. 2005 blows your theory.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) Blaming Ozzie for Rios not playing hard is just as ridiculous as any praise Greg continues to throw Ozzie's way. Alex is supposed to be professional. Playing hard should be assumed. I am glad he's playing hard now. . WERD! It's not unusual to see teams and players improve when there are coaching changes. You have a new set of a eyes to see flaws that others have missed. It can also be players are stubborn to make changes until they reach a new level of failure.
  14. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) What's worse today: Pedro or the White Sox offense? Tigers winning.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) I think it's worth a shot. Obviously only if Danks is done for the season...and Quintana might hit a brickwall at some point with the number of pitches he has thrown this season already compared to seasons past. I think they tried this experiment before.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 01:15 PM) That's all it takes now with Twitter and everything. Easy to plant bad rumors out there. Too many bloggers. Somebody will blog it or bite. Phil Rodgers.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) I just read through what I missed in the thread. This is still going on? Seriously? Marty, why is this still going on? Pierre is not coming back to town. Who cares which guy has more outs vs RH pitching? Juan Pierre sucks at baseball. I will give you that Viciedo is bad vs RHP but at least there is the chance that DV will hit for power off of RH pitching. This whole thread is nauseating though because of the Pierre discussion. My god just end it already. as Steve Rosenbloom would say Death not an option. Getting Jaun Pierre vs. Ozzie is a good manager. Discuss
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) 2012 33 New York Mets $24,000,000 2013 34 New York Mets $25,500,000 2014 35 New York Mets *$25,000,000 $25M Team Option, $5.5M Buyout Option becomes player option if criteria is met relating to Cy Young finishes and 2011-2013 innings pitched Woa! Ridiculous! I have this illogical theory about former Twins stars. They rarely equal their greatness once they leave that organization.
  19. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) Stopped reading there Yeah it was kind of an oxymoron.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) I really have no inside info, just a brother-in-law who works in sports at WTMJ in Milwaukee and he texted yesterday to say he was surprised to hear the Sox are aggressively after Greinke. Maybe just kicking the tires like everybody else? Sounds like the Cubs are going to get some good offers on Dempster, and I could see the Tigers making a big splash by getting Barney as well and sending back the likes of Turner and Castellanos. Talk about a game changer... Phil Rodgers thinks the Brewers want Floyd for Grienke. That still makes them a short a starter.
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) Anyone else hearing the Sox are in the hunt for Greinke? I don't know what you can get out of this. Maybe wishful thinking, I don't know. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/rosen...,2797357.column
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) I think they should consider bringing Pierre back. His .385 OBP v. righties would provide nice insurance for Viciedo and he'd come cheap. Deaza Pierre Youk Dunn Konerko Rios AJ Ramirez Beckham This is suppose to be a joke right?
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) I f***ing hate college basketball. This thread got derailed like no other. Thank you!
  24. Dunn is now the league leader in HRs. I'm happy that he has some success this season. They just need to have some guys on when he pops those.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) I asked Fathom; why did you take the time to derail the thread? Don't let your sense of humor check out. I don't think the Sox have enough to get Dempster. I think teams will give up too much for him. I could see the Yankees getting him and giving him a contract. The more I think of it, the Sox are really impressive this year for a team that's strength is suppose t be pitching. There have been so many setbacks, it hard to believe where they are.
