  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) None, to answer the question. Using scarce resources to chase veteran middle relievers is foolish. Several of our rookies will produce what those guys can produce. I like this one. The Sox probably won't get another great deal like the Youk trade either.
  2. Is it me or has A.J. gotten better at throwing out runners. I know people talk of his offense but he does seem to be getting the job done on defense.
  3. It has to suck the be a K.C. fan. What do they look forward to every season? "Hey maybe we'll crack 75 wins this season". I hear their farms systems are good. Somewhere that should translate someday to them being good. They use to be a powerhouse in MLB at one time. I think it's bad for baseball that organizations suck for 2 or more decades. Sure there are others but a lot of people in that organization can't be doing things right. I will always criticize Kenny for making trades with that organization. Losing is a habit. I've heard analysts talk about former Cubs removing the "Cub stink". It has to apply to the Riyals as well.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) Honestly people, aren't there better things you all could do with your time? This thread should be called "Bring out the worst in Greg".
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) I have seen it said more than a few times on Soxtalk. There's some young players on this team having great success. We have no idea how they will perform when there's far more pressure.
  6. Keep an eye one Detroit. They have slightly easier opponents and are capitalizing on that.
  7. Bobby kinda reminded me of Ed Farmer. Had a short stint of brilliance with the heater and curve. It was also odd for a team to go through two other closers and make it to the post season and win the series. I can't even remember who the opening day closer was (Shingo?) and failure #2.
  8. Boy are the Twins bad. How fast they fell. The other night I assumed they were going to hammer Detroit (after a nice lead), I watched the game only to see that was short lived. That has to be a frustrated city of fans. What are they going to wait for? Football season? No light at the end of that tunnel.
  9. Is it me or has Rios changed his batting stance. He looks so much better at the plate.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) honestly, for all you KW haters out there, you've been served. remind me all the talent we had to give up to bring in a difference-maker like Youkilis? It's a case of a naive GM finding another one. Any player leaving Boston as of now to come to Chicago should be a shot in the arm.
  11. QUOTE (Carter224 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 07:22 PM) Houston Astros game 2 Upper Deck Tickets, which are used to get in then we go sit wherever we want.... $14 2 hot dogs, 2 drinks... $24 Parking... $5 Its cheap as hell to go to a game down here They should be paying you. D-back games are cheap too, plus $1 concessions. Train will take you there for a $1.75.
  12. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 08:56 PM) Yeah, but it's only 19-2 now. Threw it away. So who downed it in the end zone so Tex could have 2?
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) Barrack didn't do his baseball research. He's never done research trailing back to his days as a professor.
  14. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) Half of that were Brewers fans. I generally dislike when front office complains about attendance, but KW has an argument. We go to ~10 games every season, last night was my 3rd game so far, It's a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things but its what I can do to help. If there's fans here who haven't been to a game yet this season, do me a favor and cancel your soxtalk account and go to a game (you're going to have fun). Yes Brewer fans are cordial, knowledgable and nice; but their cheering is the last thing I want to here when the Sox are down. There were so many Brewer fans last night, you could here booing when the Sox got the benefit from a call. That drives you crazy if you're out there supporting your home team. You sound as if sports teams should be treated like a charity. To a point they are. Most stadiums are built with tax player dollars.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) I can agree with this. Hopefully Detroit or Cleveland. William Tell is the Paul Konerko of posters. I have this fear he would be Bruce Chen II facing the Sox.
  16. If I'm on the other side of the fence, I would question why Boston made this trade. It doesn't seem good for them.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) I thought Fukedome days where numbered. Just think that the Sox offered him more money before he signed with the Cubs.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) Wow, tough break there. That could easily have been a single if we played him normally. I thought it was odd. Two guys playing RF.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) Last night was the battle of the field goals 12-9. Both teams managed to get a safety. It was QB hell.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:39 PM) Great job today Gavin. Way to rebound. I'm hoping for a complete game. I don't want the pen to screw this up.
  21. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) I could not possibly agree with you more Brotha! It's been several years (I think Maggs was in right), but I could not believe what a lousy experience I had the last time I sat in the lower level. I think my company at the time bought the tickets. When I go to a game, I for some unknown reason, want to actually watch a game. We were about 10 - 12 rows from the field along the right field line, slightly behind 1st base. People were constantly getting up and down, in and out of their seats, even during pitches. I don't know why people have such rude baseball, or any public event, behavior. I'm a very mild mannered man, and it takes a lot to get me angry; but boy was I pissed. I bet you I missed half of the game because someone was standing up to get in and out in front of me, usually right when the pitcher was starting his wind up. At that time I swore I would never sit in the lower level again and have not since. Part of that may be those seats are the most uncomfortable thing on the planet. I would want to buy the cheapest seat possible in an area where I can walk and stand.
  22. LOL, I just noticed the SEA at ARI looks more like an NFL score.
  23. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) How far away is Brent Morel from returning? I know everybody hates him but I'm not sure if I'm ready to give up on him yet. Defensively he's at least a lot better than Hudson, and offensively is something Manto can work on him with. I'm willing to give him this year to see if he can work through the kinks. What's frightening is this is a back issue. Those never go away. It may be a new Sox curse at that position.
  24. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) Any warm feelings I had during our winning streak are now evaporated seeing that we just lost two, no three, no wait FOUR series to NL teams in a row, and just dropped two straight to the worst team in baseball--while at home. The first being a complete shelling and the second an utterly waste of another lights-out performance by our #1 starter. If we can't win behind pitching performances like that, at home, against the worst team in baseball, then who are we to talk about how we're on a par with Cleveland or the Tigers or anybody for that matter? Don't get me wrong--this may just be a bad streak--but it sure is troubling. I wonder if we are making false judgements that the Sox are good based on other teams for now being bad.
