QUOTE (almagest @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 02:34 PM) I know it's been said before, but you guys know greg is probably just trolling the s*** out of all of you, right? Especially considering every time the Ozzie talk dies down, here he comes with another article or statement praising Ozzie for something. And even if he's not, who cares? He has his opinion, he loves Ozzie, he's not rational or objective in any way... whatever. It's not worth it to argue with him because you're never going to change his opinion, whether he's trolling or not. How many articles has Greg posted in here? I this last bout I kinda agree with Greg. Somewhere in MLB the word "professional" has to set in for players. These players want the big checks and get pampered. They are very fortunate people. In the real world people can do a great job and still get fired. Players usually don't need motivation around contract time. Isn't the whole point of the Miami Marlins thread just to get a rise out of Greg. The people of Florida are not interest in the Marlins. Why should we?

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) Agreed, I know the players need a few days off, as anyone does from their profession, But man; I hate the All Star game. This is going to be one long, boring week. Maybe K.W. will spice it up by leaking a few trade rumors. I'm sure some of the veteran players feel the same way.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) Ashamed? Adam owes me an apology for last year. LOL. I get so tired of the "everybody gets a trophy" culture when it comes to booing players. Dunn is a class act and I could never understand some people can't separate the player from performance. He sucks, knew and was never afraid to talk to reporters or come up with lame excuses. Too bad, his maturity could have rubbed off on Ozzie and Cooper.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) ? Who would the Sox be giving up anywhere as good as Hudson? I wasn't thinking of trading a Sox pitcher but trading cost controlled like Vicedo for experience.

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) The catcher position was such a hole for the Sox in the lineup and on the field for so many years before AJ came over. Very appreciative for what he's done in a Sox uni. I'd definitely be supportive of re-signing him for another couple of years, until we have a more solid replacement option to take over. I think to position of catcher is a great demise in MLB. At one time you could name 6 great catchers. It's not a desirable position.

Potential for another Jackson/Hudson redux.

QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) I've been a Royals fan all my life. I'm 26 years old, I was born in 1985 when the Royals won the World Series. It's been a rough ride, but no matter how s***ty they are or have been, they are still my team. At some point fans realize there are irreconcilable differences. Loyalty should be a two way street.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:34 AM) In all fairness, it's "films thread." Not defined as going to the theatre, IMAX, internet, cable, free/network tv. Otherwise, we'd have a specific thread for "theatre movie experiences," wouldn't we? And I do think most of us are pretty good about mentioning whether a 3D movie is worth the upcharge, vs. 2-D. Joe didn't tell anyone to go to the Dollar Cinemas, or I guess they're $2-3 or "super savers" now. Sometimes in China, in Shanghai, you can pay $15-20 for a non 3D movie, and nobody bats an eye. It's all based on how important you view going to a movie versus the convenience of downloading and watching on the internet with a smaller screen and diminished audio effects. There's definitely a market there. When you look at the iTunes model that's more foolish than going to a theater. The price isn't much different and it's burdened by having a proprietary format requiring a proprietary player and other authorization crap.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Meh. I owned a 19 inch tv until last year. If was a tube TV, those things last. Somewhere on the planet there's a couple of Montgomery Ward 13 TVs we gave away that are probably still working.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) None, to answer the question. Using scarce resources to chase veteran middle relievers is foolish. Several of our rookies will produce what those guys can produce. I like this one. The Sox probably won't get another great deal like the Youk trade either.

Is it me or has A.J. gotten better at throwing out runners. I know people talk of his offense but he does seem to be getting the job done on defense.

It has to suck the be a K.C. fan. What do they look forward to every season? "Hey maybe we'll crack 75 wins this season". I hear their farms systems are good. Somewhere that should translate someday to them being good. They use to be a powerhouse in MLB at one time. I think it's bad for baseball that organizations suck for 2 or more decades. Sure there are others but a lot of people in that organization can't be doing things right. I will always criticize Kenny for making trades with that organization. Losing is a habit. I've heard analysts talk about former Cubs removing the "Cub stink". It has to apply to the Riyals as well.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) Honestly people, aren't there better things you all could do with your time? This thread should be called "Bring out the worst in Greg".

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) I have seen it said more than a few times on Soxtalk. There's some young players on this team having great success. We have no idea how they will perform when there's far more pressure.

Keep an eye one Detroit. They have slightly easier opponents and are capitalizing on that.

Bobby Jenks and Bsox about to part ways
kitekrazy replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
Bobby kinda reminded me of Ed Farmer. Had a short stint of brilliance with the heater and curve. It was also odd for a team to go through two other closers and make it to the post season and win the series. I can't even remember who the opening day closer was (Shingo?) and failure #2. -
Boy are the Twins bad. How fast they fell. The other night I assumed they were going to hammer Detroit (after a nice lead), I watched the game only to see that was short lived. That has to be a frustrated city of fans. What are they going to wait for? Football season? No light at the end of that tunnel.

Is it me or has Rios changed his batting stance. He looks so much better at the plate.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) honestly, for all you KW haters out there, you've been served. remind me all the talent we had to give up to bring in a difference-maker like Youkilis? It's a case of a naive GM finding another one. Any player leaving Boston as of now to come to Chicago should be a shot in the arm.

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again
kitekrazy replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) Half of that were Brewers fans. I generally dislike when front office complains about attendance, but KW has an argument. We go to ~10 games every season, last night was my 3rd game so far, It's a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things but its what I can do to help. If there's fans here who haven't been to a game yet this season, do me a favor and cancel your soxtalk account and go to a game (you're going to have fun). Yes Brewer fans are cordial, knowledgable and nice; but their cheering is the last thing I want to here when the Sox are down. There were so many Brewer fans last night, you could here booing when the Sox got the benefit from a call. That drives you crazy if you're out there supporting your home team. You sound as if sports teams should be treated like a charity. To a point they are. Most stadiums are built with tax player dollars. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) I can agree with this. Hopefully Detroit or Cleveland. William Tell is the Paul Konerko of posters. I have this fear he would be Bruce Chen II facing the Sox.
