  1. It's blame the fans. What's next? The Bill Wirtz model of alienating fans.
  2. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) I believe the product is getting it done. What were we projected to finish in our division by most....like 4th? We have had 3 holes in the pitching staff (now 2 thanks to Q) from the beginning of the season & we are only a half game out. Sounds like they are battling & getting the job done to me. That alone could be the reason for low attendance. There was no upside to motivate fans after last season.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 10:39 PM) I was looking at the attendance figures for 2005 during June, and the attendance is definitely down this month for the Sox compared to that month (both teams in first place during that month). It does make you wonder why there's been such a decrease in the fan base this season. I know, and respect, that many on here hate talking about attendance though. I think there was more of a positive upside going into 2005. People still like Ozzie, they only fan favorite they lost was Maggs. They were also playing solid baseball. The economy is worse. Higher unemployment, lower consumer confidence, gas prices all seem to have an effect. With higher ticket prices I would imagine a family would put that amount towards the Bears or Bulls.
  4. Maybe some have been duped. It very well could be this team is much closer to a 90 loss season than 90 wins and everything is coming back to earth. I wonder is new generations of fans have a loyalty at all costs. You have an owner and GM saying the team sucks because people don't show up. It's like saying the fans suck. So when is there a point where the fan says "screw you Jerry!", there are other teams to root for.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) No way is he more valuable then Mr. Danks. And I'm not saying Danks is amazing, but assuming health, I think every team in baseball is taking Danks straight up over Bmac. I don't think the rest of the league was high on Danks as much the Sox kingdom and his agent. Wasn't he expecting a big payday elsewhere only to sign with the Sox again while for a long time saying no to a Sox contract? Where's the magic in Don Cooper? He's worked with Floyd and Danks, Thornton for an extended time and there is nothing but regression.
  6. Don Cooper= The new Greg Walker. Maybe it's time for him to go.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 10:23 PM) If we had just kept Juan Uribe after 2008.... 1) We never would have had to move Beckham to 3B 2) We never would have traded for Mark Teahen, nor extended him 3) We never would have had to give away Edwin Jackson for virtually nothing just to dump Teahen's salary 4) We'd AT LEAST be getting above average defense and inconsistent offense from him...and I think Juan being around Allen Thomas and Hermie more, he wouldn't have gained quite so much weight as he has with the Giants and Dodgers Maybe you can argue that KW wouldn't have felt the pressing need to sign Viciedo and project him at 3B, but most reasonable observers always believed Dayan's bat would be his plus tool and were never convinced he could stick anywhere in the infield except for 3B. That's Kenny's MO. If a player lacks instinct on defense somehow it will be fixed at the minor league level.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) Is Jones' pitching motion conducive to arm trouble? His inability to get anyone out is conducive to his baseball career.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 07:55 PM) At least it's a ball game once again. Ohman may disagree.
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) I'm just gonna come out and say it, surprised no one else has mentioned him... If the White Sox are still paying him, I'm sure Mark Teahen could be had from the Nationals. Ironically, for cash considerations more than likely. I wish we had Uribe.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) Cubs fired hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo. I give Cubs brass credit they dumped him unlike the Sox that kept Walker 3 years too long! Was it Dusty that use to go through a lot of hitting coaches or was it Manuel? I remember some Chicago manager was never pleased with hitting coaches.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) $11 million, plus bonuses for All-Star, World Series, etc. In hindsight, you can argue we should have dumped Floyd's contract and kept Jackson, but way too late for that. Or not re-signed Danks, but oh well. He might have been worth keeping at $8M tops.
  13. So what kind of contract did Edwin get this season?
  14. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 11:04 AM) according to ESPNs playoff odds - we have the highest % chance of making the playoffs of ANY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE thats unreal - speaks more to the division than anything else i suppose Just another reason why I never believe anything from ESPN.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) I refuse to panic. Moves need to be thought out and be rational. I trust that Mr Coopert and Mr Ventura are working on our scuffling Humber and Floyd. They both have the stuff and perhaps it is mechanical and can be corrected with some work. Let's see what happens in particular with Phil's next start Maybe Cooper is the new Walker. It appears in all of baseball that so many guys have their first successful season as a starter and now get hammered when the league gets a second look. As for Greinke, he's a former Royal, a little over rated and the Sox have nothing to trade. They will be back to that "try to get the missing piece during the season" only to fall short and a future depleted.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) It will be interesting to see if there's any type of bump up at all for Chris Sale starts. If I was a Sox fan in the US, there's no way I would go to a Floyd/Humber home game over a Sale or Peavy one at this point...if I had to choose just one game to attend all season. Besides they are playing the Astros. 22K is not bad.
  17. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:44 AM) I never questioned your Sox fandom, but you have a history of pro-Ozzie, anti-Rios,and anti-KW posts, and you'll be right back there when this team cools off, just like many people. It's just what people do, when you win everyone forgets the problems, but when said team cools off suddenly Rios' contract and attitude are front stage again. I am enjoying this run as much as anyone, this team is a delight to watch. That said, if someone offers to take Rios off our hands we'd be STUPID not too, remember 2010 when he had a decent year? Yea, that was all from his May stats. Remember how much he sucked last year and the year prior? Remember his contract? We've seen the "reborn" Rios before, and it DOES NOT LAST, whether its a full season or consecutive seasons. Great point. I wish people would leave Ozzie out of Soxtalk. He Gone! Who cares?
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) I guess I'll never understand why the 3rd largest city in the US cannot support this team and fill up the stadium when we have one of the best teams in baseball. I'm sick of all of the excuses over the years that even I have used to justify the lack of attendance. Just look at 2005. We had weekend games in September where we could only draw 28K or 30K. A year where we were close to winning a 100 games. I guess I've come to realize that our fan base is pretty small. I've come to the conclusion it's a Bear's town.
  19. I think it's all hype to get people back to the park. So which one of the young guys is going to go so Kenny can finally have Tori Hunter?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...-harrelson-rant If you had to speak to the worst MLB commissioner ever, what Hawkisms would you use?
  21. I'll reserve my optimism. I wish I could have watched the Sox this past week and today. You have to enjoy these moments.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 27, 2012 -> 06:25 AM) If I'm Kenny I show no desire to make any deals. I take calls I listen I say no until I get the right offer. Unless it's to be the GM of the Raiders.
  23. Baseball is a game of streaks. Some are very odd and seem unreal. There will be a time when this time can't buy a hit. You wonder when age is going to catch up to PK and AJ when they are at bat. Maybe the pitching is getting worse in baseball.
