  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) Really, you would seek sympathy if you blew a $3.5 million salary?? I understand some people don't have the best education in how to invest and spend the money, but it should be common sense to anybody that you have X amount of money, therefore you can only spend X amount of money before it's gone. $3.5 million is a lot of money, it would take multiple screwups before that person was in really deep s***, and they should've learned their lesson by then. That's short sighted. Some have lost it on investments, bad accountants. It's more difficult for an individual to keep track of that kind of money. Do you think they keep it in a checking account and wait for their daily email from Chase?
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Yep. How about Dawson wanting to go in to the Hall as a Cub instead of an Expo. All about money Could say the same about Fisk choosing to go in as a Red Sox over the White Sox. Only think that might save him would be the game 6 homer. Not sure it really does though. I can't figure out how this relates in any way to what I said. The organizations that signed and developed them should get the credit since the players spent a great amount of time having success in those organizations.
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) I'd like to say, you can't say, Ozzie's never acted like this before. How many times since '05 did he say he was thinking about quitting or that he should quit or that he would. Hell, in '05, I remember during the end of the season, he said he would quit after the season. Ozzie has wanted to escape, and finally came out with the real reasons why. He wanted to be in Miami and he wanted more money. Most people find it hard to accept that most people in sports are in it for the money. Why do NFL players sign with the Redskins as oppose to signing with the Patriots at league minimum?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Seems like you're about 2 days late. Did someone already post this?
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) I love how Blago thinks he's being funny saying he'd never pardon Bartman. Watching this program, it makes me even more happy about 2005. An greg, I let out a "that a-boy Juan" when they showed a highlight of him knocking in a run. Kinda funny how he close to reaping what he sowed.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Did anybody watch the Bartman TV special on ESPN? If so ... was he finally interviewed? I kind of feel sorry for that guy. Some bozo next to him was trying just as hard for the foul ball and would have also hit the ball had Bartman not hit it first. Human nature ... go for the ball (unfortunately). Of course Red Sox fans disagree with this. It shouldn't be shocking since it is the other most superstitious franchise in sports history. I think a fan would be stupid not to go after that ball. They assumed the Cubs had it wrapped up and as a fan having a ball from the Cubs winning the NLCS would make a great souvenir.
  7. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) I find it funny people blast cubs fans when we share the bhawks, bears, and bulls...... So everything negative about them you have to include with our other teams most of us root for. I just don't think Chicago has the classiest fan base in general. Please elaborate on this. I think Americans in general have taken American sports too seriously. We are seeing violence in kid amateur sports involving adults. I wonder if there is a such thing as a classy fan base. Chicago (except for Cubs) is far classier than NY, Boston, LA, Oakland.
  8. Terry Francona’s time may be up In trying season, clubhouse got away from manager’s style http://bostonherald.com.nyud.net/sports/ba...sox#articleFull
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) Hanley Ramirez is on a big contract an his attitude got him benched this year again. Wonder whether theyll hire a manager who can instill sone discipline in him next year? How do you instill discipline on an athlete with a guaranteed contract? If they have no trade clause, then what?
  10. The best part of the article was a comment to it. a lot of what made the Sox so bad was poor clutch performances all around. "Clutch" may not be a real talent, Outside of 2005 I can only describe them as unclutch. This bigger the game the smaller the Sox.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) I don't believe I sugested Oz was going to die poor, but do you really think Ozzie has enough to watch $8,000,000.00 slip away? You can always live a little better. An even bigger boat, an even bigger house, bigger diamonds for the wife and girlfriend, even longer and more lavish vacations. I just watched a special about a ship that rents for $500,000 per week. Think a guy with a couple million in the bank will lease it for a month and cruise the Med Sea? How about a guy with $10 mil in the bank? If no one desired a house more expensive than a milliom bucks, then no one would build $5 mil homes. Think about this, didn't Jordan make enough playing basketball? Why did he endorse products? I've read very few people that say they have enough money and don't want any more. Yes, he's set for life. But do you think he doesn't want to improve on how "set" he is? About a month ago there was an article on MSN about celebrities who went broke. One of them was Willie Nelson. It's very easy for us who are not millionaires to be very judgmental with someone's money.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) I have to agree with Chisoxfn... Dunn was neither Kenny nor Ozzie's fault, no one saw this coming for him. Peavy had one injury, and ankle injury unrelated to pitching, so I don't fault him for that either. Swisher was questionable defensively, that's on Kenny but not a big deal. Kenny's biggest misses were Rios and the Hudson trade, he outright blundered those. If Stewart sucks or is a mental midget the effects linger.
  13. Great post. The bad....we don't get Goose Island out West. I miss it.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) If he admits he can't get reach the players he knows inside and out, how would he convince JR and KW that he could reach players he doesn't know very well? Believe me, I like Francona, but I think he just gave JR an out if he has cold feet about paying managers decent cash, and I can't say I could blame him. I bet most managers would prefer to manage a young club than the big market clubs. How many consequences can be handed out to veterans for not wanting to play?
  15. Did Alex Rios get traded too? Only hoping for the best.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) No manager really wants a piece of the Cubs seat. Low pay, terrible upper management and basically zero control over anything. You then take a look at your roster and realize last place isnt really that fun (well except for Hou). The Pirates finished ahead of the CUbs this year and next year they are going to be even worse. The same thing could be said about this organization.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) Maybe I just have an unduly low impression of Cubs fans, but I feel like gimmicks work better on impacting ticket sales on the North Side. Reinsdorf seems to do OK cashing in on using former players. If Fisk was named manager tomorrow I bet that boost sales.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) The question is...is a manager who has 2 WS wins in the last 8 years worth an extra $2 million in ticket sales per year? I think that is a question for both sides of town.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) From the desk of JR Organizational plan 2012 White Sox 1. Raise parking up another $1.00 being highest in majors already is not enough. 2. Raise ticket prices and make all games premium games no more half priced Monday's, it worked so well in 2011! I love mid 20,000's for Yankees & Boston 3. Lower payroll ASAP. 4. Offer 13 games Kenny Williams is back again and again plan. 5. Spend even less in 2012 draft and player development, being last now is fun and makes our minor league system the envy of MLB. 6. Sign no free agents this winter, but check waiver wire weekly. 7. Have Kenny b**** about attendance each month starting in May and having no money at the trade deadline, put focus on the fan's rather than Kenny's performance. LOL, I love this. Also need to raise the Cactus League prices in Glendale too.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) Francona will be fired. Gonzalez was signed to recently in Florida and that team is on the verge of being a power again. Also, I would have ate the $2M and left Ozzie with no job opening. No one other than the Marlins would hire his ass. I wouldn't have been surprised of they let Ozzie finish contract but with different coaches. If they would have fired Ozzie, Marlins hired him the Sox aren't out $2M.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) I read something today comparing Ozzie to Ditka, and it was eerily similar. They also said they wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie's tenure in Miami goes a lot like Ditka's in New Orleans. What's also peculiar is the Marlins obviously tampered. The fact that the Sox don't call them out on this just shows how much they really care Ozzie is gone. Also read where Ozzie's contract is 4 years $10 million. Not bad, but not the $4 million a year many reported. Still its a $700k raise from 2011. If I got a $700k raise, I'd be pretty happy about it. I doubt the Marlins tampered. They talked to the Sox previously about getting Ozzie last season.
  22. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) Ozzie quit. Oh, it was already mentioned, the rest is irrelevant. Ozzie supporters, the 2-3 of you that are left, defend that s*** please. haha I expect deflection of the question though A good essay question for persuasive argument even if you don't take that side.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) I have another question for you guys. Seriously, Atlanta and Boston did not make the playoffs after looking like they were locks. They blew it. Their fans bases must be furious, FURIOUS. So should their managers be fired??? Answer this please. Should Boston and Atlanta fire their managers. Those were EPIC failures in not making the playoffs. My point so many fan bases want to fire their managers. I think Ozzie is a good manager. Of course, with Boston. Atlanta? I don't know. Did they have a good season last year. If the Cards blew it, I could imagine a fan base hoping La Russa goes to Chicago. No manager ever misses the Yankees once they leave. Ozzie will be a much better manager in the NL.
