  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) No manager really wants a piece of the Cubs seat. Low pay, terrible upper management and basically zero control over anything. You then take a look at your roster and realize last place isnt really that fun (well except for Hou). The Pirates finished ahead of the CUbs this year and next year they are going to be even worse. The same thing could be said about this organization.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) Maybe I just have an unduly low impression of Cubs fans, but I feel like gimmicks work better on impacting ticket sales on the North Side. Reinsdorf seems to do OK cashing in on using former players. If Fisk was named manager tomorrow I bet that boost sales.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) The question is...is a manager who has 2 WS wins in the last 8 years worth an extra $2 million in ticket sales per year? I think that is a question for both sides of town.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) From the desk of JR Organizational plan 2012 White Sox 1. Raise parking up another $1.00 being highest in majors already is not enough. 2. Raise ticket prices and make all games premium games no more half priced Monday's, it worked so well in 2011! I love mid 20,000's for Yankees & Boston 3. Lower payroll ASAP. 4. Offer 13 games Kenny Williams is back again and again plan. 5. Spend even less in 2012 draft and player development, being last now is fun and makes our minor league system the envy of MLB. 6. Sign no free agents this winter, but check waiver wire weekly. 7. Have Kenny b**** about attendance each month starting in May and having no money at the trade deadline, put focus on the fan's rather than Kenny's performance. LOL, I love this. Also need to raise the Cactus League prices in Glendale too.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) Francona will be fired. Gonzalez was signed to recently in Florida and that team is on the verge of being a power again. Also, I would have ate the $2M and left Ozzie with no job opening. No one other than the Marlins would hire his ass. I wouldn't have been surprised of they let Ozzie finish contract but with different coaches. If they would have fired Ozzie, Marlins hired him the Sox aren't out $2M.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) I read something today comparing Ozzie to Ditka, and it was eerily similar. They also said they wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie's tenure in Miami goes a lot like Ditka's in New Orleans. What's also peculiar is the Marlins obviously tampered. The fact that the Sox don't call them out on this just shows how much they really care Ozzie is gone. Also read where Ozzie's contract is 4 years $10 million. Not bad, but not the $4 million a year many reported. Still its a $700k raise from 2011. If I got a $700k raise, I'd be pretty happy about it. I doubt the Marlins tampered. They talked to the Sox previously about getting Ozzie last season.
  7. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) Ozzie quit. Oh, it was already mentioned, the rest is irrelevant. Ozzie supporters, the 2-3 of you that are left, defend that s*** please. haha I expect deflection of the question though A good essay question for persuasive argument even if you don't take that side.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) I have another question for you guys. Seriously, Atlanta and Boston did not make the playoffs after looking like they were locks. They blew it. Their fans bases must be furious, FURIOUS. So should their managers be fired??? Answer this please. Should Boston and Atlanta fire their managers. Those were EPIC failures in not making the playoffs. My point so many fan bases want to fire their managers. I think Ozzie is a good manager. Of course, with Boston. Atlanta? I don't know. Did they have a good season last year. If the Cards blew it, I could imagine a fan base hoping La Russa goes to Chicago. No manager ever misses the Yankees once they leave. Ozzie will be a much better manager in the NL.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) Buster Olney In the span of about 20 minutes, we saw the two worst September collapses in baseball history. 32 minutes ago What a night of baseball. Now the world has gotten bigger for us fans of under achieving teams.
  10. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) The meltdown on Boston fan boards should be amazing. Anyone got a link?
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) Um, part of Ozzie's job is to get his players to f***ing care. I can buy the other stuff, but Rios is definitely, at least in part, on Ozzie. I imagine it's pretty hard to motivate a player in sport that has guaranteed contracts. At least the Chicago media and fan base started taking it much more serious. Funny how this organization started regressing was when trading Rowand. Who would've thought that would be an indirect consequence.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) Hey Bud...don't even think of adding another wild card team This season was close to having 2 wc playoffs.
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) Alot of choking going on and it's not my White Sox doing it for once...............Bos and Atl dam. The Sox like to get their choking out of the way early.
  14. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) 2 down in TB. I also hope Papelbon gives up a 800 ft HR. f*** the Red Sox. Oh so close.....ground rule double.
  15. Wow dumb baserunning by the Yankees.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Poor Braves' fans, stuck with Scott Linebrink. That was predictable enough. The only thing that wasn't was the fact it wasn't a 3 run homer. Rays fans must have been elated not to see Mariano Rivera out there in the bottom of the 9th. When you're bad you are also luck bad. Linebrink made a good pitch but.............he's Linebrink.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) f***ing Rays don't even look like they deserve it, even after that comeback. Is their offense really this bad? Every guy going up there is batting as bad as Dunn. Yes. They are victims of no hitters as much as the Sox.
  18. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) Linebrink in for the Braves. They're hosed. This will be interesting.
  19. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Agreed about where money needs to be spent. But the White Sox obviously cannot continue to be dead last in bonus spending if they want to successfully rebuild in a timely manner. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/...itures-2007-11/ ^^^ That simply will not do, especially during a rebuild of sorts. It's almost embarassing consdering the resources available to the organization. Hopefully Kenny has or will have a nice talk and persuasive presentation for Jerry on the returns from investing in amateur talent. Sometimes I wonder if Kenny is the scapegoat in this. I've read more than once, Reinsdorf tends to get too involved in the draft process.
  20. I must be the only one watching a possible Brave's choke job.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) The other constant is Kenny Williams. This organization doesn't do a good job in identifying good offensive players. Interesting. Cowley is known for bashing Kenny but his latest article does make a good point. Looking at all the homer runs on Adam Dunn’s baseball card, rather than doing some homework on a guy who never had to play with expectations, is career suicide. That is just about Dunn but you look at the Teahen acquisition as well. Rosenbloom had an article about the bigger the game the smaller the Sox. I always question the mental makeup of this team. If something like this doesn't change with a new staff you have to wonder there is something the scouts and KW seem to miss.
  22. Watching Hudson vs. Jackson from the 7th row down 3rd base line. I can't remember the last time when I went to a major league game. Baseball is so awesome at the park, yet is also great on TV and radio. No other sport provides that. Chase Field is a nice place to see baseball. The other one is MLB offering a special in June to watch the rest of the season online for $25. I still got to see the Sox and some great baseball moments. I could care less if people think baseball is boring but it is starting to become my favorite sport to watch.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Actually... he really did. That was quite the interview. So if he does both jobs, that gives him more trips to the mound?
