QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) Who cares about Ozzie being gone. GREG WALKER IS GONE too supposedly Imagine if he is the only one back.

As of now this team looks they have nothing but a lot #4 or #5 starters.

My endorsement for the next manager...Terry Francona

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Being able to handle great talent is a skill as well. Phil got MJ to give up the ball, Rodman to stay out of jail, and Kobe and Shaq to not kill each other. Don't underestimate how important Phil Jackson was to those mixes. Rumor has it MJ had a lot more to do with keeping players in line than Jackson. -
Looking at another hindsight, maybe this team doesn't win the division if those 3 lived up to their norm. Only Dunn's stats seem to be more consistent. Jake and Rios would need career years this season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) What really are you getting out of him? He's 4th or 5th starter material, like Bruce Chen. Occassionally they will throw decently for a season. You are absolutely postive the only reason Humber is having any success is Don Cooper. What has Cooper done to make him better? Name me the most prominent baseball person who has said anything negative about the job Walker does? Walker yelled at Kenny so you don't like him. It wasn't long ago you used to have smart ass comments for anyone that said anything negative about Ozzie, but Kenny doesn't like Ozzie anymore, so neither do you. Walker is far better than most give him credit. That is the bottom line. You can say he sucks all you want, but Konerko, Thome, AJP, Dye, CLee, Magglio, Crede, Iguchi, Everett, Ramirez, Rowand show otherwise, and we are still waiting for a bust with the Sox to become a star some place else, because face it, there has to be a Don Cooper of hitting out there somewhere, and if you read this board regularly you will know once Walker leaves, so does any problem with the offense. It's usually indirect. The last one was KW and that's the one that matters most.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) On whether a change in leadership is needed: That KW quote means they are better at being mental midgets than they are at baseball. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) And Ozzie should have been let go after his homophobic slurs, letting his kid release clubhouse secrets, or calling the fans idiots multiple times. They both suck. Since he's not a Caucasian, he gets a free pass. -
a "successful season" in the major leagues

2011 White Sox had a suckfestful season. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) CSNChi_Beatnik Brett Ballantini Final road trip hazing in full effect. Esco dressed as folk dancer, Reed in a tutu, Axelrod a bumblebee, Lindsay dressing as French maid CSNChi_Beatnik Brett Ballantini Most good-natured rookie was Zach Stewart, sitting and eating with Paul Konerko while dressed as what might best be called a "sexy skunk" It's not even as half embarrassing as veteran performance of this team.

QUOTE (High Mileage @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Rebuilding is going to be a long and painful process for your franchise. The next few years will weed out the fake fans... You got the right city but wrong team on the latter. You should know best on the former.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) Chen in 5 starts this year against the Sox... 3-1, 1.89 ERA in 33.1 innings Maybe Kenny wil get him with the same reasoning for getting Mark Teahan.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) You keep saying this without any sound reasoning behind it. Next year's Cardinals rotation: Adam Wainwright: $9 million Chris Carpenter: $11 million Kyle Lohse: $12 millon Jake Westbrook: $8.5 million Jaime Garcia: arbitration eligible They've got two of the top pitching prospects in the game in Shelby Miller and Carlos Martinez (with the former being nearly big-league-ready). Lance Berkam was just re-upped for 1 year, $12 million. They've got a club option on Yadier Molina (he's going to get a nice raise). Then, of course, they have a 1B to worry about that's going to command upwards of $30 million a year. Suffice it to say, Mark Buehrle is nowhere near a priority for them at this point. Thank you! I get tired of the silliness of him being a Cardinal because he is a fan. Any athlete with half a brain is a fan of a team that pays them the most until the nest team pays him more.

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) 100% agreed, I think the Sox should be rebuilding next year.. as much as I want to see Paulie retire a WS.. it be better to send him to a situation to win, and that aint happening here for a long time. Rebuild with what? I don't trust the current GM with that assignment.

If they lose tonight then they have to win out to be at .500.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 07:03 PM) Brilliant scouting getting Frasor and Stewart for Jackson/Teahen. Meanwhile Daniel Hudson and the D-Backs say thank you!

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:02 PM) If you don't win the World Series, your team isn't successful.. only in New York -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Who is the top 3 pick position player that KW signed to a minor league contract? De Aza was a waiver claim, he's hitting .320 Again, you wanted examples, I gave you similar examples. Caufield said Quentin was great but regressed, I pointed out most of Cooper's projects also regressed. Facts are facts. Walker is a lot better than the average Sox fan thinks. You remember every hitting failure, but forget every pitching failure. I really don't want Cooper fired. I think he's fine. I just would like this board to treat him the same way Greg Walker gets treated. Maybe you will see how silly you are after a while. In reality, using Cooper to justify keeping Walker just doesn't work in MLB. Hitting coaches are a dime a dozen. Before Walker didn't both teams in town go through a whole slew of hitting coaches? Walker is easier to replace than Cooper.

From what I've read Ramirez doesn't light up the league at the start of the season. We would have fit in with the 2011 Sox.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Actually, I think it's the opposite. I expect Dunn and Rios to perform closer to their potential next season, contingent that it's under new management for Rios. I don't expect them to be exactly what they once were, but more "acceptable" than good. I fully expect Peavy to be a waste of space yet again. With Rios it's hard to define "they once were". Even if those guys have good season maybe this team is still not good enough. Starting pitching is starting to look suspect.

a "successful season" in the major leagues

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) Have I not stated this since I have been here.. Both should be gone.. KW leading the way, with Ozzie staying, only long enough for the NEW GM to ship him off to FLA. But, if one has to stay.. Ozzie is the one. Kenny should be shown the door, on Sept 28th as soon as the final out is recorded. JR walks up, and states.. Pack your bags.. 11 years is OVAH! I'm not sure how much to blame Kenny. If you look at how much financial resources are devoted to the draft, Kenny is handcuffed. Reinsdorf may be the problem. -
The thread is somewhat premature.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) I can't get mad about a guy finding a reason to smile in a 7 month season and after a 3 hour game. Me neither, but his smile is nothing like that of any pitcher that has to face him. They think "Adam Jr. is up."
-
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) I beg to differ.. The Sox needed to make an impact at the trade deadline if they were seriously going to make a run.. They didn't and the rest is history. The team was inconsistent all year, Not since Juneish did I think this team had a chance to make it... Unless they made a move, or somehow Dunn recalled how to be Dunn. At the deadline we move at the time our 3rd best starting pitcher and KW screw up.. for a bag of peanuts, and old sock. DET went and fixed their problem at 3rd, and got a SP and some RP.. The organization didn't have much bargaining chips. Under Kenny most of the mid season trades never had an immediate benefit for the Sox. They got the most from the Garcia trade the following season.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Great. Now we will see at least 10 threads this offseason clamoring for the Sox to pick him up ASAP. Great. They could use more players from habitually losing organizations. They don't want to lose that mental midget label when they become small in big games.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) It really isn't. It's common sense at this point. But I don't have inside information, so you'll argue it until the very end. I don't know. It would have seemed like common sense last year. I'm beginning to think the one that really needs to go is Mr. Reinsdorf.
