a "successful season" in the major leagues
kitekrazy replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:02 PM) If you don't win the World Series, your team isn't successful.. only in New York -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Who is the top 3 pick position player that KW signed to a minor league contract? De Aza was a waiver claim, he's hitting .320 Again, you wanted examples, I gave you similar examples. Caufield said Quentin was great but regressed, I pointed out most of Cooper's projects also regressed. Facts are facts. Walker is a lot better than the average Sox fan thinks. You remember every hitting failure, but forget every pitching failure. I really don't want Cooper fired. I think he's fine. I just would like this board to treat him the same way Greg Walker gets treated. Maybe you will see how silly you are after a while. In reality, using Cooper to justify keeping Walker just doesn't work in MLB. Hitting coaches are a dime a dozen. Before Walker didn't both teams in town go through a whole slew of hitting coaches? Walker is easier to replace than Cooper.

From what I've read Ramirez doesn't light up the league at the start of the season. We would have fit in with the 2011 Sox.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Actually, I think it's the opposite. I expect Dunn and Rios to perform closer to their potential next season, contingent that it's under new management for Rios. I don't expect them to be exactly what they once were, but more "acceptable" than good. I fully expect Peavy to be a waste of space yet again. With Rios it's hard to define "they once were". Even if those guys have good season maybe this team is still not good enough. Starting pitching is starting to look suspect.

a "successful season" in the major leagues

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) Have I not stated this since I have been here.. Both should be gone.. KW leading the way, with Ozzie staying, only long enough for the NEW GM to ship him off to FLA. But, if one has to stay.. Ozzie is the one. Kenny should be shown the door, on Sept 28th as soon as the final out is recorded. JR walks up, and states.. Pack your bags.. 11 years is OVAH! I'm not sure how much to blame Kenny. If you look at how much financial resources are devoted to the draft, Kenny is handcuffed. Reinsdorf may be the problem. -
The thread is somewhat premature.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) I can't get mad about a guy finding a reason to smile in a 7 month season and after a 3 hour game. Me neither, but his smile is nothing like that of any pitcher that has to face him. They think "Adam Jr. is up."

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) I beg to differ.. The Sox needed to make an impact at the trade deadline if they were seriously going to make a run.. They didn't and the rest is history. The team was inconsistent all year, Not since Juneish did I think this team had a chance to make it... Unless they made a move, or somehow Dunn recalled how to be Dunn. At the deadline we move at the time our 3rd best starting pitcher and KW screw up.. for a bag of peanuts, and old sock. DET went and fixed their problem at 3rd, and got a SP and some RP.. The organization didn't have much bargaining chips. Under Kenny most of the mid season trades never had an immediate benefit for the Sox. They got the most from the Garcia trade the following season.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Great. Now we will see at least 10 threads this offseason clamoring for the Sox to pick him up ASAP. Great. They could use more players from habitually losing organizations. They don't want to lose that mental midget label when they become small in big games.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) It really isn't. It's common sense at this point. But I don't have inside information, so you'll argue it until the very end. I don't know. It would have seemed like common sense last year. I'm beginning to think the one that really needs to go is Mr. Reinsdorf.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Does Walker deserve credit here? NO! -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) If just once someone blamed Cooper and was actually serious about it, when a pitcher sucked like they blame Walker when a hitter sucked, I'd stop my crusade. Cooper doesn't have a contract for next year. It could be the organization wants a complete change. Floyd and Danks are looking more and more like 5th starters on a good team.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Dick, curious what your thoughts are on this article from a couple weeks ago. I quoted a big chunk of it in one of our threads. Pay particular attention to section "no. 3". Now that was a great article.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Or is it simply that when the team continues to fail, they both started fingering each other? And going to Daddy (JR) about it? This and both have a different philosophy of what makes a good ball club. The rest is concocted by the media to turn this into soap opera.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) I KNOW! Way to pour it on when they should be playing for the draft pick. It would be hard to be all giddy over that since this is where the organization goes cheap.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) Morel is a rookie, Pierre is doing what he always does, Ramirez, AJP what they always do. There are 3 White Sox underperforming offensively, Dunn, Rios and Beckham. Even though the AL league ERA is 4.06, no Cooper bashing for Floyd and Danks being below average. You can always start a thread about Cooper.

Baseball TV for the Out-of-Town Sox Fan

Meanwhile the AL wild card race is getting interesting. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) We could be the laughing stock of baseball, versus Kansas City having been the laughing stock for 20 plus years now. But they have a great farm system that has yet transitioned them to a winning franchise. Do they have "We suck as baseball but at least we don't have a high payroll" t-shirts in KC.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 06:15 AM) That's a stretch. They are supposed to learn fundamentals when they get to AAA? They are suppose to learn them in ST in the Sox organization.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Are the veterans going to respond to a rah rah kind of guy? You know, I'm not certain I understand what style manager Ozzie is. He doesn't seem like the Rah Rah type, but he doesn't seem quiet either. He defies discription. I do know repalcing him with another him isn't the answer. There's only one other manager I can think of that would constantly bat Adam Dunn 4th would be Dusty Baker. Ozzie is like a Bobby Knight with the media but a too friendly with the players. That's why there is probably some complacency along with no fear of losing their starting jobs because of a weak farm system. Reinsdorf needs to ditch the loyalty thing.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 06:04 PM) I'm pretty sure if Adam Dunn OR Alex Rios actually hit the ball, they'd be a lot closer or leading the division right now. If both were... shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt nuff' said I don't know. Someone else would take over to have a really off year. The potential is there when you have Walker.
