9/9 Indians (Gomez) at White Sox (Buehrle)
kitekrazy replied to Swingandalongonetoleft's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I'm watching this while peeking in at Phils and Brewers. The only way to describe the Phils is invincible. Later I'll see if Hudson can get #16. Detroit took the lead at Minn. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) And in fairness, Morel hasn't done much until the games became meaningless. It was hard to forget the Josh Fields impersonation last Sunday. -

I always thought Flowers wasn't going to be anything special at the plate. I guess he Ks a lot. He might as well learn to bunt. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) This is utterly absurd. Why in the heck is he playing so much? Kenny's bettin' another GM will take him. -
I flipped between the Sox and the Phillies game. They own Atlanta but the games are close.
-
I've probably seen more "expert" predictions rarely pick the Sox to win the division.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) 2nd place? We haven't been eliminated! We can still pull this out! Have faith. Did your closet run out of room for the ALC 2nd Place T-shirts? -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) Yeah, I didn't really get that point. Peyton being out is bad for football. Colts games have now become unwatchable. The NFL is going to take a hit in ratings on those nationally televised games. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) The cool thing to do in NWI has been to jump off of the Bears bandwagon and on to the Colts. 10 years ago you couldn't find a Colts fan in Indianapolis, let alone in the Chicago market. That's as bad as trying to understand why IL has so many ND fans. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) The crappy thing is that it only takes on bad year to end up with a player like that. It sure worked for the Spurs years ago. They could have also ended up with Ryan Leaf and Rickey Williams. A lot of top NFL picks have flopped or haven't lived up to their status especially QBs this century. Drafting offense that high is more of a crap shoot. Plus I never understood all of these coaches having their 1st pick QB hold a clipboard the first season. Some of the great ones never did that. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) Maybe now some of the morons will put away the Colts gear. While the rest of us morons will be putting away our Sox gear. Mods should show better taste instead of posting something like this. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) ESPN's Chris Mortensen confirms that Peyton Manning underwent cervical fusion surgery on his neck Thursday morning. Manning's recovery timetable is 2-3 months at minimum. Per Mort, there's no word yet on the possibility of injured reserve. We imagine the Colts will hold off on that decision as long as possible, though the season is circling the drain. Manning won't play before Halloween and possibly not until Thanksgiving. Kerry Collins is still just a low-end QB2 in what will likely be a more run-oriented offense than it's been under Manning. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Austin Collie, and Pierre Garcon all take severe blows. Only in stats. Other than that they won't have to worry about much contact which is good for Collie. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) He's not going to play this year. If you are a life long Colts fan this really sucks. He isn't going to last forever. The most difficult thing for any team to do these days is draft a QB. I believe the talent coming out of college has really regressed in the 10 years. Angelo was smart in giving up those picks for Cutler. They most likely would have been wasted on QB busts. The Colts have been fortunate to have 3 franchise QBs in their history with Unitas, Jones and Manning. They could use an Earl Morrall right now. I hope they don't plan on playing him when he returns. They might as well go for a better pick in the draft. Now I wish baseball season would go another month. I'm starting to get turned off by the NFL with their over hype. Give some props to MLB for allowing fans to watch games on the web for a decent fee instead of forcing people into an over priced TV package. There's no point for me to watch the NFL, so bring on the NHL. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 10:59 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_...04806086589-996 Rios is pretty damn strong and athletic...too bad he can't do much with it on the baseball field. And it's also good to see that he might actually give a s***. This is probably the first time he's ever drawn heavy criticism.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) Haha, nice defense. Konerko's defense has been god awful of late. They musta thought they were in Detroit. Choke mode is engaged. Besides they don't want to drift too far past the .500 mark. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) No I think that would be reading too much into that. Wasn't KW mad about Gordon B's swings? That's just the tip of the iceberg. Morel was on a pace to have the fewest walks in a season. That would be fine if he were a pitcher. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) Never been to a Soxfest, but if there was ever a year to call it off.... Introducing the new manager, coaching staff, and GM would be a plus. If it's in Nov. they have to act fast.

It's fun to read what the fans on Twin island have to say. Not too long ago Santana wanted out because of lack of mid and off season improvements. So now they give Mauer a big payday and the fans hate it. It's hard to have it both ways.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) This thread could go in either place, because I'm really wondering if this bizarre trend that includes the White Sox has a somewhat empirical explanation. If I had to guess, salaries have finally gotten so inflated that the variance in returns to salary is jacked way up. With the Sox it may be a matter of improving the farm system.
