Game Thread: Sox v. Tigers 3:10pm Sept. 3, 2011

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) Floyd has no killer instinct he leaves alot to be desired. That's basically the staff in a nutshell except for MB. Coop can't fix the mental midget syndrome. -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) I swear...I've never been a DBag fan...but i am green with envy of the culture that staff of Gibson, Don Baylor and Trammel has instilled in that team. Gibson is the kind of manager that I always envisioned my pipe dream for Sox manager (Carlton Fisk) would be. It's just time for change... Same here. Plus their park and prices are a very pleasant experience.

And that, my friends, is a White Sox season

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) get rid of kenny, get rid of ozzie, get rid of everyone and lets start over. I'd LOVE to straight up rebuild for a year or two. It would be almost impossible for this team to rebuild in two years. I don't trust the scouting in this organization. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) I will no longer watch games in which Mark Buehrle doesn't pitch. This could be Mark's last month. So I will cherish his starts. Besides that, I will only track Viciedo, De Aza and Flowers. If it is, I'm all out for 2012. They would have to impress me to take interest. I'd hate for him to go but he does not fit in since most of the staff is full of mental midgets. -

I guess this could be good or bad based on anyone's perspective. The Sox are 10 games out from 4th place. -

The real story here is the Sox strayed too far past .500. They had to get back to normalcy. Kinda like the saying "a dog returns to it's own vomit". -

Trouble started with the mental midget starter who decided to give the Tigers hope. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 06:02 PM) Now its AJ's fault? Wow. Pitchers aren't held accountable on Soxtalk unless your name is Jake Peavy. I suppose that's fair. Its not their fault if they are good. Its all Don Cooper. So if they suck, its because of AJ and if they are good its because Don Cooper is the pitching coach. It could be Kenny's as well. The teams under Kenny's regimes seem to have a mental breakdown. I don't know if you can reveal that in sabermetrics or whatever they use. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) Haha, mental midget is the new "bad at baseball" That's basically this team since the turn of the century. Way too many players fail under pressure. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) Be glad you got to see any of it. I just went out and bought new glasses since that's the only game I get. Fox didn't show the Sox on the West Coast and it's also blacked out on mlb.com. Now I'm listening to Rongey defending Walker. Ugh. I'm gonna start defending Charles Manson. -

I'm really sick of the East Coast bias in professional sports. I know there is a rain delay, but I really don't care to see Boston beating up Texas. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Please don't. Trading for him was a colossal failure. Trading him away was not. I'd trust him on the mound over Peavy and Humber at this point. But it does make sense for the long term. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) One of these days, Ozzie will realize that Ohman isn't a long reliever. Unfortunately the poor starting pitching hasn't given the pen a break. -

Maybe they shouldn't have put up 8 runs. Now I can't get them on Fox or MLB. -
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) It's just too bad Ozzie and his coaching staff couldn't get Dunn and Rios to perform at a level even 75% of their career norms. The other side of the coin is these guys aren't rookies. With someone like Dunn, after 10 years does he really need a manager to get himself to perform near his career norm?
-
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) Improvement in my eyes would be Gordon playing at a level below what we expected but a solid hitter. It would be Dunn hitting .240 with 30+ HR. Rios could get his head out of his behind and play somewhat close to his career averages with some defense. Improvement would be whichever young guys that do end up sticking with the club next year do NOT REGRESS! Have we had a young hitter that did not get worse? KW needs to stick because despite the major mistakes with Dunn, Rios, and Peavy, they seemed like good moves that were made to take the Sox to a higher level. Bold moves! They did not work out and that is a problem. However, KW continuously pulls guys out of nowhere like Humber, Thornton, Alexie, and TCQ which helps to average out the times when he swings for the fences and fails. I contend that KW's "guys" would be better with new coaches. Why? Because almost everyone that comes here that swings a stick tends to get worse. Is that always KW's bad judgement? Swisher seems OK now. I'd be willing to bet my Sox cap that Dunn would find his swing if he went somewhere else. We are stuck with those guys whatever guy we bring in for GM. Let's see what new coaching can do. Of course if most players went to the Yankees the chances are they would be better. I would imagine a player like Swisher gets to see more hittable pitches because of the other guys in the lineup.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) In a lot of sports, that's not true, or at least not all the time. Profit maximization is not the order of most teams. I bet it's far more true than you think. Bill Wirtz still made money off a crappy hockey team. Look at how many sports teams have changed cities.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) Yeah, a class act that feels he can confront his bosses whenever his feelings are hurt and run to JR for cover. Remember how he went running to JR a few years back when Ozzie said that if the team doesn't start winning KW would have to make changes whether it be the manager, the players or the hitting coach? Walker cried to Jerry and Jerry told Ozzie to make nice with Walker. This I agree with 100%. If that's the case then Ozzie looks more like a victim. I always thought Wal;ker deserved to lose his job more than anyone and Kenny wants him gone but Ozzie doesn't. So many angles and stories with this organization.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) There is going to be changes. Of the 3 main fan targets, KW, Ozzie and Walker, at most, IMO only 1 returns. Probably none at this point. I think KW has the best shot, but the JR loyalty thing is a two way street. He's loyal to his investors and they have to be not too impressed with the way KW has spent their money. I don't know if that would be 100% true. We may find out how loyal JR is too certain people. As for the investors $$$ is more important than winning.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) Could you imagine Zambrano and Ozzie in the same dugout? Maybe they'd actually conteract each other, and they'd both calm down and start doing their jobs well. More likely, Zambrano would throw a fit and destroy a Gatorade cooler with a bat, and Ozzie would PH him for Konerko because he "liked what I saw with him swinging the bat". Zambrano can probably hit better than some of the guys in the line up. He's been criticized for working on his hitting.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) LaRussa I'm sure will have some run ins with the media here who try to call him on why the team isn't improved and why he, like oz, is still playing Dunn, etc. Larussa would probably take some of his coaches down to the studio to intimidate the media. Larussa is a classless individual which I still don't see JR's fascination with him.
