  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) One of these days, Ozzie will realize that Ohman isn't a long reliever. Unfortunately the poor starting pitching hasn't given the pen a break.
  2. Dewayne Wise went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, triple and two runs
  3. Maybe they shouldn't have put up 8 runs. Now I can't get them on Fox or MLB.
  4. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) It's just too bad Ozzie and his coaching staff couldn't get Dunn and Rios to perform at a level even 75% of their career norms. The other side of the coin is these guys aren't rookies. With someone like Dunn, after 10 years does he really need a manager to get himself to perform near his career norm?
  5. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) Improvement in my eyes would be Gordon playing at a level below what we expected but a solid hitter. It would be Dunn hitting .240 with 30+ HR. Rios could get his head out of his behind and play somewhat close to his career averages with some defense. Improvement would be whichever young guys that do end up sticking with the club next year do NOT REGRESS! Have we had a young hitter that did not get worse? KW needs to stick because despite the major mistakes with Dunn, Rios, and Peavy, they seemed like good moves that were made to take the Sox to a higher level. Bold moves! They did not work out and that is a problem. However, KW continuously pulls guys out of nowhere like Humber, Thornton, Alexie, and TCQ which helps to average out the times when he swings for the fences and fails. I contend that KW's "guys" would be better with new coaches. Why? Because almost everyone that comes here that swings a stick tends to get worse. Is that always KW's bad judgement? Swisher seems OK now. I'd be willing to bet my Sox cap that Dunn would find his swing if he went somewhere else. We are stuck with those guys whatever guy we bring in for GM. Let's see what new coaching can do. Of course if most players went to the Yankees the chances are they would be better. I would imagine a player like Swisher gets to see more hittable pitches because of the other guys in the lineup.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) In a lot of sports, that's not true, or at least not all the time. Profit maximization is not the order of most teams. I bet it's far more true than you think. Bill Wirtz still made money off a crappy hockey team. Look at how many sports teams have changed cities.
  7. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) Yeah, a class act that feels he can confront his bosses whenever his feelings are hurt and run to JR for cover. Remember how he went running to JR a few years back when Ozzie said that if the team doesn't start winning KW would have to make changes whether it be the manager, the players or the hitting coach? Walker cried to Jerry and Jerry told Ozzie to make nice with Walker. This I agree with 100%. If that's the case then Ozzie looks more like a victim. I always thought Wal;ker deserved to lose his job more than anyone and Kenny wants him gone but Ozzie doesn't. So many angles and stories with this organization.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) There is going to be changes. Of the 3 main fan targets, KW, Ozzie and Walker, at most, IMO only 1 returns. Probably none at this point. I think KW has the best shot, but the JR loyalty thing is a two way street. He's loyal to his investors and they have to be not too impressed with the way KW has spent their money. I don't know if that would be 100% true. We may find out how loyal JR is too certain people. As for the investors $$$ is more important than winning.
  9. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) Could you imagine Zambrano and Ozzie in the same dugout? Maybe they'd actually conteract each other, and they'd both calm down and start doing their jobs well. More likely, Zambrano would throw a fit and destroy a Gatorade cooler with a bat, and Ozzie would PH him for Konerko because he "liked what I saw with him swinging the bat". Zambrano can probably hit better than some of the guys in the line up. He's been criticized for working on his hitting.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) LaRussa I'm sure will have some run ins with the media here who try to call him on why the team isn't improved and why he, like oz, is still playing Dunn, etc. Larussa would probably take some of his coaches down to the studio to intimidate the media. Larussa is a classless individual which I still don't see JR's fascination with him.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Two playoff appearances in eight years in a division that as far as recent history goes has been weak. Yet he's supposed to go to the NL east, a division that features two powerhouses in the Phillies and Braves, and "win big"? Minus the 2 powerhouses (Detoit and Cleveland seem to have better futures), sounds like a lateral move but there's still a better upside than here because expectations would be lower.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) I'd prefer a "reporter" not be a mouth-piece for one particular side of the story and not continually insult the other side. That use to be more limited to political figures but since the emergence of 24 hour sports coverage sports journalism has regressed. There may be a bigger divide in communication between athletes and reporters that you see so many articles (Phil Rodgers) that are nothing but speculation.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) Where the hell is JR in all of this? Take some action for once. How many years of this crap between Ozzie, Kenny, and Marty34 do we have to live through? Maybe JR believes there is no such thing as bad press.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Hey, we didn't get shut out! It would be annoying if they lost the game 2-1. Maybe the strategy was to tire the Tigers bats so the Sox can mow em down the next two.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) Other than one year, Ozzie can't even win big here with more expensive and talented rosters than his divisional rivals most years. Since 2005, his teams have regularly underperformed. Why is he going to suddenly win big in Florida? I think being in the NL will help some, but he's going to make the same mistakes he's made here both off and on the field. The Marlins will have even less patience with him and once they let him go, that very well may be the end of his career as a MLB manager. What is it about this guy that has you completely blinded? I doubt it. They seem to have a better farm system and their budget probably rules out having situations like Peavy, Dunn and Rios. They don't win a lot of baseball games so the chances are possible of over achieving than under achieving. Just maybe the Sox aren't really that talented. Two of the people not performing are from the NL. Plus his loyalty to Walker is another downfall.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) I meant over the course of the last three seasons. Well it doesn't matter. None of them are like MB. Thiose guys could win a lot of games pitching for the Red Sox or Yankees but who couldn't?
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) And that's been basically it. I can't think of a single game in which it was perceived as a "big" game against a quality opponent, post-all-star break, in which Danks shut a team down. I can say the same for Floyd as well. Wasn't it Floyd and Thome that beat the Twins in that 1 game playoff?
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Well, Detroit does what "good" teams do at home when it's time to put away its rival. I take it you haven't watched much baseball in 5 years. It's more like the Sox go into mental midget, wet the bed, crap their pants, mode when facing their rivals. It's their trademark of the century. Chances were good losing to Verlander anyway. Losing 8-0 is no different than losing 3-2.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) Why the f*** did Oz start Danks? He is the guy wanting a big payday. He might be a mental midget when it comes to big games.
  20. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 06:24 PM) Going to have to chip away. Start by scoring a run! Or getting a hit or walk. lol! Hoping for some bad Det defense. Maybe they can get Verlander to throw with the other hand.
  21. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) Ok so if Rios is 40 mil rowand is 12 thats 28 extra million for 3 years of rios for the giants. is he a 9 mil a year player absolutely not but if the sox can get that down to a 7 mil a year player would the giants be interested? i can see rios getting 3 years/21 from a dumb team on the market. ok i cant but the giants did sign tejada for almost 7 mil this offseason. I think the "dumb team" is already used up on him. There are no more and the Sox were the last.
  22. QUOTE (bozzie @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) He berated Kenny Williams into dumping a Hall of Famer who averaged .270, 37 home runs and 98 RBI in three years with the White Sox. And thus did Jim Thome move on. You do realize Thome's last year on the Sox was the option year and was making over $14M. I think he was getting $2M from the Twins. It would almost be disrespectful if the Sox offered Thome that same money. That was an awful lot of money wrapped up in a player that leaves you with very few options and was also having back problems. I still think it was a smart move financially and unfortunately his replacements didn't work out. His success last year had a lot do with how Gardenhire handled him. I don't think how he did as a Twin would translate to the same performance with the Sox especially with Ozzie as manager.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) 2 out of three I certainly agree with you on. Not certain about Rios as no players were involved, but we took on a lot of money for a failing player for sure. The trade for Hudson is a head scratcher and the trade period for Teahan made no sense to me at the time. We could have kept Juan Uribe for thirdbase if nothing else. Rios and Teahan are the reactions for failed prospects such as BA and Fields. Fields was replaced by Beckham which some argue was brought up too early. Then Teahen is replaced by Old man Omar. The farm system failed and who knows what you are going to get with Morel. I do think it is time to test a new hitting coach.
  24. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) The Chairman intervenes behind the scenes on a lot of issues and KW wanted Cito Gaston, not Ozzie. Which is odd since no one still wants Cito Gaston.
  25. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) No...the right'JR feel' is that he passes over Hahn for another candidate that no one esle has thought of. Given his love for LaRussa and the fact that Tony has got to be tired of managing, I wonder if the Chariman hires LaRussa for GM? An awful move, but something to consider. Which could point to JR being a bigger problem than Kenny or Ozzie. I have speculated that since KW took over, the farm system has gotten worse. That could also be JRs doing by being loyal to friends over competent people in areas of scouting and instruction. Which would bring us back to Kenny not being in charge.
