  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) So you honestly believe that KW has or had the authority to fire Ozzie and hasn't done so already? I think it's clear that Reinsdorf is not letting his GM have full control of a decision that should rightfully be his. Maybe money is the driving factor here, but I have no doubt in my mind that KW would hire a new manager if he could. Unfortunately, we now have to deal with his and Ozzie's bulls*** until Reinsdorf lets one or both of them go. That's not way it should work, and if KW had a power that most GMs have, we probably wouldn't be dealing with nonsense right now. So if you want force a veteran manager who also happens to be one of Reinsdorf's buddies on a rookie GM, then I hope you're willing to accept another manager having more influence in the organization than he should really have. I don't think it's clear at all. It's speculation fueled by fans and media.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) Last years Twins team had the 5th best ERA in the AL and the 4th best bullpen ERA in the AL. This year's Tigers team has the 10th best ERA in the AL and the 11th best bullpen ERA. So yeah, if you added Verlander to last year's Twins team they'd have a great shot at the W.S., because that Twins team had a full pitching staff working their tails off around him. This year's Tigers team has Verlander and a bunch of weakness. Hell, that's the 11th bullpen ERA out of 14 and they're pitching in Comerica for crying out loud. Having an ace can be a big difference. Sure the Sox have 3 good starters but no ace. The Twins were always lacking one component that was always revealed in the post season. There offense numbers in 09/10 were nothing to laugh at either. I think in 09 they were the best in baseball hitting after 2 outs.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) showed some fight after being in the hole. Back-to-back sweeps of the Twins? I must've been dreaming. But I'll live with 5 of the last 6 and hope that ozzie's blunders haven't dashed the mojo coming from that dugout. It's going to be tough to overcome 5 games in the loss column but there's still a lot of baseball left. Picking up one game this weekend doesn't feel like enough. Having a former CY set you back 6 runs before they get to swing a bat doesn't help. I was surprised they made it interesting. Too bad Dunn and Rios wouldn't volunteer to work with the hitting coach in Charlotte.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) While I'll give props for his production, I tend to not like grumpy players. I'm not saying he's bad in the clubhouse since I'm not there. But i find it hard to believe he's helping the situation when it comes to team chemistry. And yeah, Rios has three years left on his contract. I'm trying to figure out where it started that CQ was a clubhouse cancer.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Because certain people actually understand how payroll and contracts work? And there are plenty of them that don't are in MLB.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) KW just better pray that Stewart can be a #4 or 5 starter, as Hudson continues to look like he's going to be a #1 or 2 for a long time. He's probably more like a quality #3. A ? trade at the time that just looks bad. You could have retained a young arm where it looks like this organization might new one since there may be no Danks. I think it was you that pointed out getting Jackson because Kenny didn't want to trust an unproven pitcher in a race and now they have to trust Stewart.
  7. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) I remember when people were pissed Kenny didn't sign him at 14 million a year or whatever... Maybe he should have traded most of the team when the market would be higher. I had no idea how many bad contracts the Giants have. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/08/gian...assignment.html
  8. BTW, anyone notice how polished PK has become as a hitter? He's hitting to both sides of the field and does just as much damage without putting the ball in the seats. He should be a keeper.
  9. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) Perhaps we'll get some off-day drama tomorrow - this festering boil on our team's ass is coming to a head and may explode soon. It won't be pretty. I'm hoping it gets to the point anyone outside the media cares.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) How on God's green earth can Ozzie even think of hitting Dunn for Lillibridge is beyond me. If either one is on base, Lilli has a better chance of scoring from first.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) If Dunn gets a hit he's looks like a genius What's the odds of either one happening.
  12. QUOTE (bozzie @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) . . . good way to keep the KoolAid flowing, Northside . . . can anyone say censorship? . . . What a noob....after awhile this site can get quite boring with so few subjects. BTW, unless you own the site, anyone and anything can be censored.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) The sad thing is, the Sox had a respectable 16-12 August after starting 0-4. That 11-22 start just won't go away. I think the biggest myth bought by managers and players is "there's plenty of baseball left".
  14. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Lexi's been jerked around by Ozzie more than anyone in the batting order. He hasn't been great, but he could benefit from a defined role at this point in his career, IMO. But really, with Quentin out, it's freakin' obvious who should be batting behind Konerko. As for Ozzie's ideas about protecting Vic, the better solution may be to bat Viciedo 3rd and Konerko 4th.
  15. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) the offense scored 6 runs, you should win every one of those games peavy is just a flat out terrible pitcher, the team is hindered by having to pitch him and pay him It think it's time Kenny stops paying big money for NL talent.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) This is correct. Probably the biggest Sox-killer of my lifetime. I don't think he's the Sox killer when there's Dunn an Rios.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) Last time I checked, neither the Tigers or White Sox were known for their second half runs. I get that we just swept a god awful Mariners team and won last night against a Twins team that I don't even recognize. But we've seen this movie before. They're going to HAVE to beat Detroit. And when I say that I'm talking a minimum of 5-1 against them and play pretty much lights out against everybody else. That is my biggest concern. They could beat up Detroit and get "Chen'd" by the Royals.
  18. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) KC has and can win games. And they enjoy being spoilers. They've done it to the Sox more than once.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) .500 against the division...woo... Cle 7-3 Det 5-7 KC 5-6 Min 6-7 Do this the rest... Cle 6-2 Det 4-2 KC 5-2 Min 3-2 Tor 2-1 20-9, I'll give them a fighting chance. Tigers would have to go 14-13 to tie. Damn, running out of games. What people haven't realized is Detroit has had trouble playing .500 in the division.
  20. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) is this the first time we've been 3 above .500 all year? i don't remember Beginning of the year. 6-3.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) I can't think of a single solitary poster on this board that said keeping Viciedo in the minors was the correct thing to do. Names or you're hallucinating. Edit: greg and elrockin don't count. I did. There's that service time thing. He has to learn how to catch a baseball. He spent more time with Charlotte's hitting instructor meaning less time with Walker. Maybe the Charlotte staff and KW thought he wasn't ready. There's no way to know if they same players would have put out the same performance if brought up earlier.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) He has no power to the opposite field. I don't see how he can have any power with that batting stance.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) Stewarts last start this season, I hope. They'll be down to a 3 man rotation, or 3 1/2 counting Peavy.
