  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) You know what's comical? Kenny traded Hudson last year cause he didn't want to have to count on a young pitcher during a playoff run. So then, he turns around and trades Jackson for a very unknown commodity in Stewart who ends up pitching in some important games down the stretch of this year. That's just another reason why they need a new GM. Stewart will need a ST under Cooper (if he's here next year) to improve.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Of course Ozzie could have not played those players...... Unfortunately the bench players don't always make suitable replacements. Out of 25 players few on this team can hit a baseball. At the same time maybe Kenny didn't push for some of these guys that recently came up from Charlotte is because he trusts that staff better than the Sox staff.
  3. They all need to go. This has become too much of a soap opera. I think Ozzie really wants out but will stay if Jerry says so. The farm system has regressed under Kenny. He's gotta go. There's a recent pattern of veterans coming here and regressing. Get rid of everyone. Cooper is probably the only guy worthy. If we lose a certain popular player or players due to contracts like Dunn, Rios and Peavy, I'll probably be "all out" next season. They'll have to impress me. I can't see this organization keeping one or the other and still make progress. Underachievement has existed under two managers this century. Maybe Reinsdorf need to go as well. The "we'll make the team better if people show up" philosophy is extortion.
  4. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Joe Madden was 1. Ozzie is Number 6 Most Popular Manager The polls don't really mean much in a sport where money talks.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) Gotta disagree here a bit BS...His plate discipline has clearly been improving as the year went on. BB by month 4 9 5 13 14 It was May when he really started raking and taking some walks, and when he went into his July/August injury slump that was when he started taking more walks than ever before. Which probably never would have happened if he was on the Sox. His poor plate discipline would have remained untouched.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) He strikes out a lot but I like Flowers. I vote for dealing AJP to a contender now and going with Flowers/Castro next year with Flowers the regular. Wasn't Castro putting up a Dunn type average in the minors?
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 07:08 AM) Sample size, gentlemen. Definitely. I wonder if the organization has made a similar mistakes since some of the prospects have come up and and failed almost to the point of being out of baseball. Viciedo still needed to learn how to catch a baseball and it looks like he was better off working with the hitting coach in the minors. With Kenny signing Dunn there was no roster spot.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) If the scenario was: KW has no authority right now to fire Guillen because of an edict from ownership, Consequently, KW has no authority right now to force Guillen to follow his instructions (because he can't fire him for open defiance of KW's decisions), and Guillen makes clear that he will not play Viciedo if he's called up, he'll bench the kid like he did last year, and maybe insult/run him down a bit for good measure Then KW's hands are tied from above and below in the org. We have no idea if this is really accurate.
  9. I know Rios is in everyone's doghouse but the guy has been hittin lately.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) If the Sox have this epic "late run" that gets them back to 1 or 2 games out the day the season ends, it would also be easy to dismiss the run as coming in garbage time. Now that the pressure's off (their chances at the division are pretty remote), you have to take W-L performance with a grain of salt. Probably not so since it is technically a 3 team race and Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland still have plenty of games to play against each other.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Good article on the Dayan/Ozzie/Kenny situation with links in the story to more of the same. A must read. Are you referring to what Rodgers said? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7643230.story 2. Did the White Sox wait too long to play the Dayan Viciedo card? Probably, but Viciedo may have benefitted from their reluctance to throw him into the fire in June or July. His 2011 debut was impressive for more than just the single and long home run he hit in his first two at-bats. He walked in his third plate appearance -- matching the total of walks he had in his first 97 plate appearances last season. Viciedo has historically been one of those hitters scouts say will “swing at the rosin bag,’’ but appears to have greatly improved his patience at the plate after working with a combination of Greg Walker, Chris Chambliss, Jeff Manto and Tim Laker the last four years. He had only 13 walks to go with 103 strikeouts between Triple-A Charlotte and Chicago last season but in his second season at Charlotte offset 83 strikeouts with 45 walks, helping him improve his on-base percentage from .321 to .364.
  12. Funny how writers such a Rodgers calls this a lucrative job. I can't see that at all. You have bad contracts. Then there's other things like the weather, cost of living, ect. that I wouldnt' consider it lucrative. The organization is so synonymous with losing that they are used in non sports documentaries with it comes to the word losing.
  13. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) looking at the pitching matchups this has Chicago White Sox sweep written all over it. Hope Sox fans get off their asses and show up to support this team (even if they don't support Kenny or Jerry or Ozzie or Walker or Oney). Then again guys with ERAs around 5 or 6 gives this team fits. Plus it's the Twins.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) Never thought I'd see the day that Olivo could hurt Peavy Beckham could hit off Peavy.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) Min wage vs millions is alot different. Not paying taxes vs. paying a lot of taxes.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) I'm joining the camp that Dayan isn't up because Kenny knows Ozzie won't play him. or hitters regress under Walker
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 07:09 PM) Didn't realize about 80-85% of the GM's who've led their teams to the playoffs were doing in with their very first team. Interesting. http://www.csnchicago.com/08/22/11/Kaplan-...amp;feedID=8487 I heard a discussion on the SCORE about that. I guess Hahn is the highest paid asst. GM in baseball. So the reason why he hasn't been hired can be over money.
  18. I'm surprised Peavy wasn't on the waiver wire.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) But I mean, what's a normal number? How does that 103 compare to like the Red Sox, Rays, or Pirates over that time? As far as I know, 103 could be in the middle of the pack. That's what I am talking about, I have no frame of reference to compare that number to. I was trying to find that out. That's a major league roster every year. I doubt the better teams have that high of a turnover.
  20. QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) Lets trade CQ and Thornton to Pittsburgh for Pedro Alvarez and some minor league players. Alvarez is a good fielder with a huge arm and big bat. What makes you think the Pirates will make that trade?
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) That means nothing to me without any reference. Players change, management the same, result the same.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 11:04 PM) Just for fun, not a good last two days for Kenny Williams: - Hudson dominates and goes 8.2 innings and gives up 2 runs - De Los Santos gets a win - Brandon Allen hits two mammoth homers - Nick Swisher hits two homers - Jason Frasor picks up loss for Sox - Zach Stewart gets bombed by Angels Got this off a thread at WSI. According to Retrosheet.com the Sox have had a total of 103 players make an appearance in at least one game since the start of the 2007 season through Tuesday night.
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) I'd rather see Jim go someplace where he can win a title. Those teams already have someone better. Who in the NL wants a pinch hitter. I wish the Sox were a NL team. It fits the current manager and would prevent the current GM from making more mistakes.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) Its the typical Guillen trait. Forget what he did last year, Ozzie had nothing to do with Thome leaving. Oney did the same thing. Last year when Kotsay hit his second homer and it helped the Sox win, Thome was riding pine in Minnesota and had 2 homers. Oney tweeted that it was obvious the "skipper" which is what he calls his dad, made the right choice. Oney also tweeted that although Thome was a nice guy, he really wasn't a winner. When "the choice" was clearly wrong, it went from 100 percent Ozzie Guillen's decision to Ozzie had nothing to do with it, blame Kenny Williams. Looks like Ozzie is going the same way. I believe there was over a $10M difference in pay from his last season with the Sox then on to the Twins. It wouldn't look good for the organization to cut his pay that much.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) Lasorda is 200 He's not good either if you give him a crappy team.
