QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) Rios was a great move on paper at the time. It really wasn't. It only looked good on paper because the team was in a desperate need of a CF.

It hard to view this as a potential victory. Even if Peavy can make it to 5, the pen is showing signs of the typical mental midget syndrome. I don't expect any offense if PK is sitting.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) There's nothing wrong with going in the cage and messing around with it." I wonder how many guys actually go out of their way to work in the cages. Back in 2005 towards the end of the season Rowand got up early and spent a great deal of time in the cages.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) Alexei and Rios really have regressed defensively, compared to last year. Pierre, we all know about. Players come here and regress. Swisher Teahen Rios Dunn Peavy It's a mystery as to why.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) One pitch pitchers (even a 95-97 MPH fastball) in their mid 30's making over $5 million a season (going forward with the extension) aren't in as huge a demand as we thought. That isn't as near as bad making him the closer opening day. That's like 3 or 4 games wasted there.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) Trading Jackson for a righty reliever did wonders for us this weekend! It is so infuriating how many bad decisions this organization has made the last three years. There is no excuse for Thornton to still be on this team. Of course, trading for Jackson was unnecessary.

I'll be going to some Diamondback games in Sept. I can enjoy baseball when I don't care who wins.

Can we add Walker to the list?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Was KW "on point" too? "I love to watch Lance/Ray Ray/Sugar Ray (or KW) run." Hawk Harrelson Oh, to have a good CFer again. Those were the days. He was my favorite player back then. Funny how he was always around .300 every season and always swinging at the first pitch.

That statue could probably put up some better number than this lineup. They should activate it.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) I know it's a great gesture and I appreciate it, but I still say that statute sucks. It's like one of those Starting Lineups you didn't want and couldn't wait to trade. It does look bad from the picture. It looks like he's trying to club someone after being stabbed in the chest. Just another example of the Sox buying more bad product.

will the White Sox ever break the 500 mark again?
kitekrazy replied to Soxnews's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Soxnews @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) In the past few weeks the White Sox have come close to having an over 500 record. After a few wins in a row the team always seems to get back to 500, but then loses one or two putting them a couple games under again. Wil they be able to reach have a winning record after playing the Yankee's? BTW the does anyone know how many games the Tigers and Twins have left against the Yankee? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) Really? All of his points save the silly Rick Hahn one (I don't care if my GM is a Satan-worshiping DMB fan if he makes the right moves!), were well-thought and accurate. I'm still so amazed that no one has been fired. Like this one. 8) We're going to regret not trading Quentin, Danks, Floyd, Ramirez and Thornton when we had a chance...the payoff in the offseason won't be as good. We have no idea what was really offered on the other side. Our source is media speculation. So I consider that statement ignorance at the Phil Rogers level.

Yikes! Some over reaction here. Some. But I could see possibilities of Reinsdorf wanting LaRussa and his gang over here as long as one of them isn't Mark McGuire.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Kenny got suckered into thinking this team had a chance after winning 2 of 3 against the Tigers. Those two wins were such fool's gold. The sad thing is they should have swept the Tigers.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) If you don't like my opinion, don't read it. Now if this was WSI, you would have made known to the OP your title and said "You're right. In fact no one os going to read this."
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) With the Yankees and Twins coming up...feels like it's about time for that mid-summer losing skid. They cant beat Baltimore and KC either. The trade deadline came at a bad time.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) I think some of our pitchers might be able to hit better than our hitters I bet Zambrano can.

Tonight's loss may lead Williams to start trading players

Putting the Rios contract disaster into context...

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 10:27 PM) Real, you can potentially make those arguments about Borchard, Fields, Anderson, Morel and Beckham, to name five. But a lot of questioning is going on about the "mental make-up" of both BA and Gordon, that's for sure. Scouts missed out on that critical component. They seem to miss that a lot. That's where your GM takes the blame. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) Look what has happened with the White Sox, KW and Guillen accepting/empowering/enabling Alex Rios for the past 12 months? There's just no way he can have the respect of any veteran in that clubhouse. Any goodwill or reserve he had left remaining in the tank was eroded tonight. I think enough teams do that when there is a lot of money involved. Just look at the North side. It was last year or the year before they wanted to have Z not show up for the rest of the season. If this were the Yankees or Red Sox, they could eat that kind of money. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) I wish Reinsdorf was the type of owner that would just dump this guy, or authorize picking up 75% of the rest of his contract just to get him out of here. Maybe he is. I guess most teams don't want to touch that other 25%. -

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) There isn't a team in the sport that would want Alex Rios. He's garbage. I think the Cubs would be happy to take his contract over Sorianno's. Maybe even Zanbrano. -
Ozzie confirms Rios will be in lineup tomorrow

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 12:56 AM) KW's "Chicago Tough" quote rears its ugly head again. What a joke. Chicago is not exactly an icon for winning sports dynasties. (except the Bulls) Tough means mediocre when it comes to Chicago. That's almost as bad as "Bear Weather".
