  1. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Boston isn't a bad hitting team, I wouldn't count him as dead yet. What is more concerning to me is JFP's in ability to get past 70 pitches. Yep, they're pretty gogd at hitting. Someone can bunt on there too. Notice that one guy got an RBI looking for an outside pitch. Sox show no discipline at the plate. They've chased some really bad pitches. Of course they had to make their visit to mental midget kingdom. You starter gets rattle having a guy on base. Most guys on this team are very poor holding a runner except for MB. Alexi looked like a Pee Wee leaguer shying away from a bad AJ throw. This is the all in Sox I'm use to.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) Problem is...how many of the guys who are our problem bunters came up through our minors? The guys I hate seeing bunt are guys like Alexei, Beckham, Rios, AJ. Out of those, there's what, 4 months of White Sox minor league time there? AJ can bunt...oh where did he come from? He's the best base runner as far as brains. It still doesn't remove the this is and always will be a fundamentally inept organization under the current GM. They also scouted those guys before the came here.
  3. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) Philip Coke out there throwing meatballs for Detroit, 5-1 Angels. If we cannot beat this pathetic Detroit team with that awful pen we should be ashamed of ourselves. We cant beat the Twins and their staff gave up like over 30 runs in two games against the Rangers.
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Tigers have 1st and 3rd and nobody out. Somehow they run into a DP with the runner out at home and second. Sox would even find that hard to do. That was something I only thought the Sox could do.
  5. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) The Sox this year made dam near all games tiered pricing, I understand Bos, NY, Cubs, but alot made no sense at all and made the games way overpriced and fans said HELL NO! I think this turned off alot of fans IMO! There's also plenty of affordable "I don't care who wins" independent semi pro games to go to around the area. I miss going to Jackhammer games. The Sox also have the highest price Spring Training tickets. I got to see the Sox at Diamondbacks this Summer. While we got some free tickets, it was 7th row from the field and those were only $36. Their concessions have value items as well.
  6. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) Most White Sox fans probably don't even realize our streak vs. the Red Sox is that good, but they have no trouble reciting by memory how terrible we are vs. the Twins. I know you think they are different. The Red Sox are a much better team than the Twins, and it's very surprising we've had that level of success over 16 games vs. them. I could care less if they ever beat the Twins if they win the division. Every pro sports team has an opponent that owns them. Not beating the Twins is always magnified because the Sox squander other opportunities where the games vs. the Twins become too important. They've repeated this pattern under two managers.
  7. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) I am sure I am going to take heat from Dick Allen on this, but isn't it a strike against Walker regarding the development of Beckham and Morel? I mean, BOTH of those guys came up hitting the ball with authority before Walk had a chance to get inside their head. I think people have a habit of forgetting what a big leap it is from the minors to the majors. It is also hard to ignore that there is a pattern under Walker of poor plate discipline.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) I wonder how many Sox fans have personally written to Brooks Boyer on this issue? I've just never understood why they weren't AT LEAST a BIT more flexible with those upper deck seats...seems they're just so set in their ways with their price points/cost-benefit analysis. They used to have good Sunday "family/kids" day crowds. Do they still do those Pepsi half-price promos? Why don't they try doing 2 for 1 beer specials for those sitting in the upper deck? Free promo item if you are in the first 3-5000 upper deck fans? Or hot dog and a Large Coke for $5.00? There has to be some good ideas out there that could be implemented. OH, WEATHER. Forgot that convenient excuse. http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance Currently 19th. I don't get how we're behind Cincinnati, Houston and San Diego, especially those last 2. I guess the Reds had an increase based on their 2010 season and increased 2011 season ticket sales, because they've played a LOT like the White Sox this year. http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance/_/sort/allAvg We're also 19th in overall attendance, home and away combined. I'd love to see our overall ticket/parking/souvenir/food sales revenues at 25,000 per game versus 40,000 in Minnesota. To see how far we actually trail them in this one area. We're 5,000 per game behind the Tigers. I would think the weather does play a role but some of the teams you mentioned have the same climate. The economy has a lot to do with it. You wonder at what point the owners are going to admit that when it comes to free agency. White Sox baseball is way over priced. I don't think it has as much to do with the quality on the field as the pricing.
  9. Isn't Jackson a Boras client? I wouldn't get too attached to Viciedo knowing the Sox history with a Boras client.
  10. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 06:35 AM) If you are going to bunt then make sure the guy bunting can bunt. Coaching some in this area might help. How about making sure the pitchers hold on base runners better? This can also be done with coaching. Hold the coaches involved responsible for preparing the players to execute. Coaching and preperation are not so good. How much of this is neglected in the minors? Executing fundamentals should exist before coming to the majors. I think it's evident that this was never a priority to Kenny. The minors could use some overhaul. That is Kenny's responsibility.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) That seems a little harsh doesn't it? Unless he's a Yankee fan that finally came out of the closet.
  12. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Hawk is a polarizing figure to be sure. There's boatloads to criticize, with umpiring complaints at the top of the list for me. However, if you have the Extra Innings package or you're a frequent traveller to other MLB towns, you may realize that he's rather good at his job from an entertainment standpoint. There's SO much blandness out there it's numbing. That was real evident in the 2005 post season. After that I didn't know how terrible Chris Berman is. Outside of making up silly names, there is nothing to him at all.
  13. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Talent from a losing organization is actually a great deal to make. We dealt for mediocrity from a losing organization, therein lies the problem. Turns out he wasn't even mediocre, he was just plain bad. Not for this organization. They tend to hold on to them much longer to do more damage. Then you get mental midgets who can't react to pressure because they really nothing to play for after ASB.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 07:02 AM) I'm sure he would like something, but I also think he would be thrilled to be rid of him for no cost too. If by some chance LaRussa is manager, Kenny will miss Ozzie. There will be more friction between KW &TL. Be careful for what you wish for.
  15. QUOTE (Anderson Cooper's Quivering @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) The whitesox are a bunch of racists. Ignore the latin manager, black GM and jewish owner. Post of the week. So when will it be convenient in Amerika for the single hetero Caucasian to file discrimination suits?
  16. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) LOL. Anyway, I love this thread. I have nothing personally against Teahen, I just couldn't stand him as a player. I don't know what they saw in him at all, except that he bats lefty. It was a way of dumping Josh Fields except they got a higher priced version of Josh Fields instead. This is another reason why this organization needs a new GM.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Uh, they could have called up Viciedo before we lost 3 of 4 to Minnie and got faceplaned 4 of 6 to KC. but nooooooo we couldn't do that and try to improve the offense. What a failure of a GM we have. They still may have lost those games. Someone steps in to wet the bed. They've had a habit of getting owned by those 2 teams after the ASB, it also happened under Manuel.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) It's general because it doesn't need to be specific. Ozzie makes blatant managerial errors on pretty much an everyday basis, and they're obvious for all to see. If you think he's as good an in-game manager as anybody, I mean you have the right to think that but I'm not sure how you could possibly come to that conclusion. It doesn't really matter what we think. It's who ever is willing to pay him. He's definitely cut out for managing in the NL.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) The Cardinals are doing a lot of things that make me think they think there's a very real chance Albert leaves. Either way, I'd be pretty surprised if La Russa is there in 2012. He might move up in their front office. Just think Sox fans could get their wish of Walker being gone only to be replace by McGuire. People will wonder why Lillibridge is on pace for a 25 HR season playing part time. Mark will introduce the team to those same skills that made he, SamMe and Barry famous.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) Bad trades and/or putting a team togeher is more an indictment of Kenny Williams then Ozzie Guillen. But, I would not be surprised at all if Ozzie does leave for the Miami Marlins next season. Phil Rogers blurbs that maybe Tony Larussa will be welcomes back to Chicago in 2012? But, you know what say what you will about Guillen we have an under producing team this season and he is still within 3 1/2 games of the top. I have often wondered about the aggressiveness of the Sox to pull off deals and use our farm system as the feeder for other teams. We have given up some pretty decent youngsters. Yes we won in 2005 but memories run short in baseball. If Ozzie and Kenny are both here in 2012 I have no problem with that either. I just hope for a better producing club He'd cost a lot more than Ozzie. I do wonder what the St. Lous fans feel about LaRussa. Sometimes guys like that don't know when to retire. It's just Phil being Phil of s***. He should be a low paid yahoo blogger. I enjoy reading the comments to his columns. The Cards wanted Sale for Rasmus. They didn't want to take on Thornton's salary for next year. It will be interesting how much Pujols will make next year?
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) They need to get healthy and find some pitching quick. I think the wheels are finally coming off that wagon. They only thing that would help them if they got to face the Sox another 40 games.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) That's all right Rudy will fix him! Funny how I see both Chicago team mirror each other in hitting. Poor plate discipline and they all shut down at once. At least the Cubs tried a new but highly though of hitting coach to produce the same results. I always thought if the Sox had Big Z, he could be used as a pinch hitter. He likes to work on his hitting. Maybe they need that kind of inspiration.,
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) The HOF has made judgments just like that where players careers have been ended very early. I could see Frank being a guy to do it for sure. He was one of the best players in the game during his time. Longevity should not be a major factor, but then again most of them had careers over 12 years. Outside of a pitcher I don't think the Hall should have one dimensional players like DH. Frank wasn't that bad of a 1st baseman. He was better than Lamar Johnson. If Frank left the planet before he became a DH, he would have a good shot. It will be interesting if Munson gets in. I just can't stand the DH. Back in the 80's guys like Eddie Murray would go have a 2nd career in the NL. Now the NL players instead of retiring can swing a bat in the AL and get paid well.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) Well, is the 12 inch sub cheaper than getting two 6 inch subs? It is as Subway. People use to do that all of the time when Subway had all regular subs for $5.
