QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Aka Piranhas. Viciedo should be converted to catcher, lol. He has the frame and arm for it. That is one position in baseball that has really had a demise in talent. I doubt any kid wants to be one. Long term plans for Mauer are getting him out of that spot.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) Let's see. Miami, or Chicago? Miami. Marlins, or the Sox? Tie. Their young guys (Morrison, Hanley), or the Sox (Beckham, Sale, Morel)? Florida. Loria and Hill, or KW? Loria and Hill. Can you blame him? I wouldn't want to manage this team either. Playing the Twins is always a nightmare.
-
I can't see the game. How did the Twins get another run?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) It's nuts, isn't it? Can't believe we're not 20 games out of contention with so many players just not showing up this season. That's the MO for the Sox this century. Opportunities squandered.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) We keep having the same crappy ABs and approaches at the plate. It's hard to remember when they didn't unless the pitcher is throwin meatballs. Then they get tired from swinging the bat so hard and don't produce anymore.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) They need to have that +/- stat for baseball like they do with basketball and hockey. That will be a stat that Kenny ignores.

QUOTE (MAX @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) Are we mentally handicapped? Yep.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) Now we watch a real team hit with runners in scoring position. Yep, Twin fans say that about the 2nd week of October when the opponent is batting.

Maybe it's time to turn the whole lineup into switch hitters.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) ESPN's policy is that you must have two sources on any piece of information before they'll report it. Too bad they don't follow it. They are the NY/LA Times of the sporting world.

QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) I think it's more than just interesting. I think it's a clue to one of the major problems with this team: we don't have enough players who can perform under pressure - the pressure that comes from playing on a big money big market team with widely stated playoff aspirations. PK, AJ, MB are all proven winners who've done it here in Chicago. Dunn has spent his entire MLB career playing on second-division NL teams. Rios played on Toronto, a perennial also-ran behind the Yankees and Red Sox - and I wouldn't exactly call Toronto a rabid baseball town. Pressure affects all professional sports but especially the high skill sports: baseball and golf. It doesn't take much to interfere with a swing or a pitched ball. It's one thing to hit 40 home runs on a last place NL team playing out the string - it's an entirely different thing to do it on a team in a pennant race. It's one thing to sink a six foot putt with your three buddies during your weekly Saturday morning game - it's an entirely different thing to do it on the 72nd hole of the Masters to take home the green jacket. I think that's a good point. I never understood it when Kenny started collecting guys from the Royals. Plus I think the owners need to wise up and not let the players union run everything. Or should I say ruin? It's a great set up for players like Rios.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) But I still will point to KW being the biggest culprit in the organization. When you get guys like Rios and rented Manny, I think it tells other players there are few consequences. After awhile he has to believe what other organizations believe about players instead of Coop fixing them temporarily. No more million dollar arms with the ten cent brain. As for Ozzie, the rest of the baseball world sees him as a better manager than the fans. He has a NL philosophy while Kenny still has the steroid era AL philosophy. Ozzie's philosophy will not work with the current players. I think he really wants out of this organization and stays because of Reinsdorf. As for Walker I don't know much blame he should take. The Sox have some of the worst plate discipline. We see this even with guys brought up from the farm. So how much can you blame Walker vs. the rest of the organization? If you look at players brought up thru the system like Brain Anderson, Josh Fields, to name a few, it says your scouting and development needs to do a much better job. The farm system has gotten worse under Kenny and trades since 2007 are terrible. He's got to go.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Off topic somewhat, but that Gammons expects Guillen to be fired at the break and there to be nary a word from a Sox beat writer is yet another example of how bad the Sox beat writers are. I find anyone's credibility that works for ESPN to be zilch, nada. Even Gammon. They are a 24 hour network so they have to create news. It's worse during the NFL season.

Might get embarrassed on Nat'l TV.

A resignation would suit me.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Its just a strange season. Maybe Reinsdorf over spent on a crappy product so that fans would actually be rooting for him to slash salary. If hes that clever, good for him. I like that analogy. Too bad the minors suck so you have to spend money.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Amazing...four days ago, I was feeling optimistic. This team is toast. It's just history repeating itself. This team has chemistry except it's bad chemistry. Funny how in 2005 you had a lot of new players and it worked. Maybe too many of these guys have been together too long.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) Why did Ozzie do something strange in the 4th? Because hes Ozzie. I honestly feel hes cost us a significant amount of games, but it seems like nothing is changing. Not even sure what they should do, Id trade a bunch of guys, get rid of coaches and see what happens. Probably still be around 500 but at least not annoying. You're still stuck with KW who manged a lousy farm system, taking risks on bad players, made a lot of bad trades, ect. I feel like we are the Oakland Raiders of MLB.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) Can you imagine how happy Thome is being on the other side of this "rivalry?" He got to hit the home run which was our last highlight against these guys now he gets to kick our ass. On a serious note ... how long will fans show up for this? Is the Cell experience so great (if it is, awesome) that the product doesn't matter much? Or will our crowds start dwindling? Big deal. He might get to be in four games in the post season if the weather is descent. I don't think it matters.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Another embarrassing matchup against the Twins. I love the disgust in Stone's voice when he's describing these scrub relief pitchers out there for Minnesota. We need to lose these next two games. Nothing may happen, but if there ever was a moment to push change (ANY change) it'd be then; right before the ASB. The Sox will be in 4th place. There's not much that can be done to change. For trades it will be garbage for garbage and there's nothing on the farm.
-
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) I wish we could get the Sox to play half as hard. The day game that I was at against the Royals was by far the most apathetic effort I've ever seen out of a baseball team in my 20 years of watching baseball. Sometimes you have to wonder if getting guys like Rios and players who been to more teams than seasons eventually has a downside. They need to stop acquiring mental projects since they can't even fix them in the farm system.
-
So Kenny's clusterf*** of mental midgets fail again. Open the unlabeled bottle that you think could be lightning is wupass. Change managers all you want but constantly attaining guys with no mental makeup will always produce under achievement. This team is so unclutch. What manager wants a team of bed wetters?
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Don't the sox have one of the best records in all of baseball since May 10th or so? Far from since they've been winning a majority of series. Since this is a game of streak, the Sox are due for one of those losing streaks.
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) I wonder if tonight I'll get the blowout that I've been asking this f***ing team for. Chances are good if your are a Twins fan. The mental midget is on the mound who can beat the Twins.
-
Teahan - even if the Sox have to take a chunk of his contract Jackson These would be safe trades if you are still trying to win the division.
