  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) I accidently had Rosenbloom on this morning on my way to the gym and he was ripping Peavy for this. Saying he isn't around enough to be talking like this and other garbage. I got a different impression. To me it stated show it on the mound and not your mouth.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 12:57 AM) Think about 2012. Without CQ, MB, EJ, and JP, there's like $40m off the books. Jerry won't put us at $127m again, but he'll sure as hell put us at $100m. Now imagine the above scenario with $15m or so for KW to spend on FA. I think you have to keep the payroll around $120M if you want to be competitive and your farm system sucks.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) I don't think it is something that simple. Carlos doesn't make any sense to deal if you believe you are in a pennant race unless there is something really wrong. Dealing your second best hitter, especially for a pitcher, when your offense has been awful? It doesn't pass the smell test. If Kenny really wanted to open a spot for Dayan, he would find someone to dump Pierre on, and pick up most of his salary the rest of this year. If he is looking to deal Q it means he is looking for an insane amount of money on an extension, having issues in the clubhouse, really worried about an injury problem, or something worse that none of us have heard about (and in this day and age, speculation would always begin there with juicing or worse). He might think Quentin has reached peak value. I know fans are high on Viciedo but there are fans who have watched his defense and it's not great. You have the potential to make the OF even worse.
  4. Was it the Cubs who went through a lot of hitting coaches this century? I've seen similarities between both Chicago teams. I guess it has to do with having a lot of swing for the fence guys.
  5. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) I don't know if there's a more underrated Williams acquisition than Pierzynski, for how crucial it has been in so many respects. I think getting players from winning or competitive organizations has a lot to do with it than getting players from habitually losing teams.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 02:24 AM) How that Sox cannot make changes to this lineup is beyond me. Viciedo and DeAza are right there. The only logic I can see is that they are in a race is you need veteran presence.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) DJ's getting on him all the time about not even moving a step when a pickoff play's coming at 2B or when Edwin is on the mound taking forever and he's just disinterestedly almost not even paying attention to what's going on. Even I lose interest when Edwin is on the mound.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) I was shot down everytime I mentioned it. I just wanted out of that contract so bad, and although I didn't think he would be this bad I figured on a .700 - .750 OPS, and for what we are paying him that is unacceptable. The only problem to that was finding a replacement.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) Who knows, maybe this will be the first sox team in a long time that's a 2nd half team. I hope so. I hate to see good pitching go to waste I think this is the week to find out if the Sox are going to repeat the "same ol", "same ol" lying down to divisional teams especially the Royals and Twins.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 01:33 AM) Yeah, exactly. I see NO reason why either of them should keep their job. I can't even pick one. I'm more concerned with getting Ozzie out of here because it feels like he has more power than KW and he's one of the worst game managers in the sport, but I think KW being gone would do more since he's doing a crappy job finding/evaluating talent, and I am confident his replacement (Hahn) would be a major improvement. Part of me thinks Ozzie wants to go to the Marlins but he and Reinsdorf have a loyalty to each other. Ozzie is more of a NL type manager. The rest of the baseball world doesn't see as an inept manager like the fans do. I've liked Kenny's aggressiveness in getting someone like Jake Peavy. That story hasn't ended yet on whether it was worth it. His moves in the past few years just don't make sense. He's done a poor job handling the minors. The only way to fix that is with more spending. I don't like it when he acquire players from losing organizations. I think there is something there mentally.
  11. Unfortunately there are too many guys on this team that suck at baseball. Probably 20%. Each day 1 of 25 players take a turn in the mental meltdown game.
  12. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Now, I could be totally wrong with these names. But, to change the culture of this franchise, which IMHO is needed, these are good places to start. That would also involve getting rid of Kenny.
  13. Someone made the mistake of giving this guy a nice contract based on potential instead of what's on the field. Maybe the scouts were wrong.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 12:29 AM) It sounds like Rios is in Ozzie's doghouse. I wonder where this leads, as we all know that you don't get out once you're in. They'll get Wilson Betamit back.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:32 PM) The pitchers busted their ass, but that was a really poor display of effort by our entire offense tonight. That final play was even worse when watching the replay. Lillibridge had no idea the guy might try to score. You might as well copy/paste the bold in wordpad for the rest of the season so you won't have to type it all of the time. Definitely the theme for 2011. Lillibridge should know better.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) Note to our pitchers: don't throw Pena anything to hit this weekend What is with guys with the last name of Pena always hurt the Sox. The one on the team does enough damage already.
  17. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) I want Viciedo up just as much as everyone else. But because the Sox (for some unknown reason) didn't bring him up a month or so ago, it really does make the most sense at this point to hold off for five more days. At that point it won't cost the Sox one of his arbitration years. I'm not saying he shouldn't have been brought up sooner, just saying because they waited this long, might as well wait five more days and then pull the trigger. That makes sense. Plus he switched to playing the outfield.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Gotta love having two of the s***tiest hitters in all of baseball getting a ton of ABs on our team. We might as well get rid of the DH and let some of our pitchers get ABs. They can't be much worse. That would be my only reason to get Carlos Zambrano.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) Cause I, the paying fan, want to know how my Sox are doing? Why wouldn't they open the books? Would you care if the top dollar ticket was $30? I doubt most people would care.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) im really not concerned with Viciedos speed vs Pierres speed, because Viciedo is not going to be leading off. As long as he can field the balls hit to him, im ok with him Hey why not. He could be the Sox version of Sorriano.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) As long as he can field the balls hit to him, im ok with him That's probably why he's not up here yet, along with not repeating the "Gray" mistake.
  22. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_1835466...amp;forced=true Probably a heated discussion over hunting and fishing. It's always interesting to see the Twins fan's perspective. It's not any different than Chicago. Gardenhire is not god. One person believes Mauer is trying to get Gardenhire fired.
  23. Let's hope Dunn has a great 2012. This isn't the first Sox player to have a really cruddy year. PK had 2 of them. I remember the fan base wasn't very warm to him either.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) MLB has just had 10% of the league go through bankruptcy. I don't know how that is fine. I didn't understand that either. MLB doesn't really dent the cash flow like the NFL, NBA. Plus attendance is down almost everywhere.
  25. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Every day I come to this site hoping to see a thread that says a real change has been made to the composition of this team. So disappointing. Unfortunately real changes need to be made to MLB. Who would have thought 30 years ago someone would say the Dodgers would be bankrupt? They need to find an alternative to guaranteed contracts.
