  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:06 PM) Until LF and 3B gets figured out, I'm comfortable in saying we're not a good team. You can survive with a crappy hitting catcher, but having pathetic offensive players at LF and 3B in the AL is just a waste of outs. Could this be the 3rd season in a row where they had to replace the opening day 3rd baseman? Jaun Uribe anyone?
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 11, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) think the angels advanced scouting told the angels teahen sucks at third and take advantage of him Nope, it doesn't take a scout to know that.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) I'll say one thing. The record of the Twins' AA and AAA teams these last seasons is a serious concern. Development is one thing, but they've compiled the worst record in the minors in 2010 and 2011 and it's now reflected at the major league level as well. When a major league team is having difficulty succeeding in terms of w/l record, they group all their prospects together and hope that they'll developing a "winning" habit that won't be so negatively counteracted when they get to the big leagues with a team like the Royals or Pirates. Then there's Kenny who likes to acquire players from the Royals.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) 1,459 ks in 1,469.2 IP with a 1.19 WHIP, 3.32 ERA and a .231 batting average doesn't spell ace to you? Jesus Christ. If he can ever be healthy again for a given period, Jake will show that he indeed is an ace. That's a big if, of course. However, his resume is acetastic in my book. Nope it doesn't. I think you have to throw in victories when defining an ace. I believe an ace will still win 15 on a bad team.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) Not sure, it would really depend on the circumstances. And I would hope Chicago would get a new team to replace them. It would probably be better if they played in the suburbs still going as a "Chicago" team.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) It's a lot harder to find guys who have the resume that Jake Peavy does. Outside of winning the CY Young, his resume does not spell "ace" in my book.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) Like in 2008, when Peavy went 10-11 despite a 2.85 ERA. Or when he went 11-14 in 2006. That is irrelevant when regarding Sox fans. I've come across comments on this and another forum that none of this major losing streak would happen if Peavy were here.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) Not really. Check StubHub. Cardinals are in town, temp will be 80 degrees tommorrow night and there are tickets on sale for a whopping $5. What's up with that?
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) John danks does not make the team not score runs for Danks. He'll get his chance when they play a NL team. What is the team offense stats when Danks is out there? Anyone know?
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Being in Chicago, I'd still be able to attend MLB games regularly on the North Side You must be wealthy then.
  11. That would have a lot to do with if they were still called the White Sox. I was a Baltimore Colts fan and remained a Colts fan when they moved to Indy. I tend to associate teams with their names and logs than what city they play in.
  12. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ May 10, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) ... and everyone says AJ adds no value. Coop for manager! Have you ever heard Coop on the SCORE? He can't deal with fan criticism. I'd rather have AJ as a manager.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) You have to stick your best starter in the pen when the other five are named Floyd, Danks, Buehrle, Peavy and Jackson. I'd be OK with putting Jackson in the pen but everybody says he makes too much money for that. Why not stick with a 6 man rotation until it stops working. Does it sound just as ridiculous to have an overpaid mental midget start because he's making all of that money? You never know he could be the light outs closer that is needed instead of the other one that has blown 5? saves and only throws hard? Do we throw out logic, tradition and economics at the expense of winning?
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) And the counter-argument is that Danks would thrive pitching for an offense that actually supported him and gave him more confidence that he wouldn't have to be out there on eggshells worrying about giving up 1 or 2 runs. Then again there may be guys with great stats but mediocre W-L, and they are still mediocre in the win column when going to a different team that is not the Yankees. Some guys just win when they are on the mound. So many Sox fans believe that about Peavy. There is that mental aspect of the game a certain player brings to a team. How do they fare against division rivals? How many times against the Twins is it that this whole team shows no mental toughness? I find it odd that fans look to Jake Peavy for this and no one else. I think you have to take some consideration with wins and losses.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) I don't know anything about Konerko off of the field, but there is no way of knowing that, thanks to Bud Selig and company. PK had 2 really bad seasons, so I do have my doubts he is 100% clean.
  16. Would it be premature to say this is the 3rd win in a row.
  17. QUOTE (Knackattack @ May 9, 2011 -> 11:00 PM) What are we gonna do about the rotation if Peavy is good? I think they have held up their end. Still have to worry about the pen, defense, inconsistent hitting.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxrd5 @ May 7, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) We'll win games based on talent alone later on in the year. When it warms up and we are 15-20 games back Dunn, PK, and Q will mash us to victories. The SP is solid enough as well to get us some wins. I think we'll end up with 75-78 wins. My hope is if this road trip goes 2-7 or worse we have to be realistic and start planning for the future. If we're 14 or 15 games out, and in last place, there is no coming back from that. I'm interested to see what Kenny does with a bottom three farm system, and bad money invested next season in Rios, Peavy, AJ, Ohman and Dunn. We're looking at a few probable dark years till things turn around. That's very optimistic. When it warms up it does it for the other teams as well. I think we've seen enough of what Kenny has done with a farm system. While this may not be his fault but scouting and drafting needs to improve. How are the coaches at the developing levels. I get the impression the organization believes they can fix major deficits like playing defense and knowing the fundamentals when in most cases if those things aren't already there they will never happen. To me it's like those NFL GMs who get suckered by a players skills at the Combine and forget there is a difference between athletes and football players. This team is stuck with guys like Rios and AJ because the farm doesn't give the team an option. Filling CF has become real expensive since 2005. There is still that hole at 3rd. Some would argue that forced Beckham into the majors too soon. An old man had to replace Teahan last year. Everyone shakes their head at that contract. This organization needs a complete overhaul and Kenny is not one I would trust to do that.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 7, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) Would you rather: 1.) Be in last place in all of baseball but already have one year of rebuilding in the books 2.) Be in last place in all of baseball and have to start rebuilding right now I'm taking #1 every single time. People will mention that last year's team came back, but they always omit that they still lost. And of course someone will bring up hindsight being 20/20 even though many, many of us have been calling for a rebuild for years. It looks like this organization is really bad at rebuilding as well. If that keeps up they will be forced to hold on to aging players and bad contracts. This season is bad but does the outlook look worse within 5 years? There's been a debate that Beckham's problems stem from not spending enough time in the minors.
  20. QUOTE (forrestg @ May 7, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) i really miss having someone in the line up besides konerko and Quentin that might actually might get a clutch hit. maybe we could bring back Crede too. Some forgot how great he was before the steroid era. He was a tough out.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2011 -> 07:18 AM) I really think Ozzie wouldn't mind being fired. I've really never thought that before, but he seems almost resigned to the White Sox fate. Where is his annual speech about how he's was close to walking away. He doesn't want to quit because he wouldn't get the cash. I would probably get tired of managing and over paid under achieving team after awhile along with a farm system that has a bleak future. I think he would be a better manager in the NL. If he gets fired, it won't take long for him to be managing again. Since the turn of the century this team has had two managers but the constant has been under achievement.
  22. With Frank as hitting coach, the temptation might be to activate him since most of guys on this team can't hit.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 5, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) Manny Acta is really sharp. I'd say that he's probably one of the top-5 strategists in the game right now. His problem is just that he's been burdened with an overabundance of crappy players for the bulk of his managing career. I'd kill to have a guy with his mind for the game as the coach of the Sox. He would be burdened with crappy players again, just more expensive.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Mostly because I haven't seen him do any sort of managerial stuff, but I really fear that Cooper would be a terrible manager. He hasn't shown much of late as being a decent pitching coach either. He has the "coaches against the fans" mentality. After listening to him on the score defending the team, he mentally weak.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) Good question, but with each passing year, it makes me appreciate 2005 even more. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, went right for us and we capitalized on those breaks. It was definitely a fluke, but not in a bad way. We deserved the World Series that year as much as any team has in a long time. In modern day sports you can pretty make the case that any team that wins a championship is a fluke. Dynasties do not exist anymore. The 2005 Sox had the best record in baseball heading into the post season and proved they were the best team. Did anyone predict a Ranger-Giants WS? It's been awhile that the NFL team with the best record has won a Super Bowl.
