  1. I just want the drafting and scouting improved. I guess this is on Kenny.
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 15, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) With this pitching staff all the hitting and defense need to do is be fundamentally sound and they would have a good thing going. I believe this organization cares very little when it comes to defense.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) Yay, bad defense costs us another two runs. What happened?
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) It's a common perception nowadays that wins mean nothing. I don't know how this perception took hold, but it's ridiculous. To be 0-6 is embarrassing. It was pointed out that Humber had even less run support but he still won 2 games. It's a shame that performance from the starters has gone to waste. Imagine how much better some of the teams in baseball could have benefited if they had the Sox staff.
  5. QUOTE (YASNY @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) Black Jack had the knack of pitching to the game conditions. When I think of the word "competitor" the first name that comes to mind is McDowell. If the Sox had 5 on the board, he'd give up 3 or 4. But I recall him pitching against the Twins when he had absolutely nothing, but the Sox won 1-0. The Twins had double digit men left on base ... I'm not sure but I think it was close to 15 or 16. Black Jack was pitcher in every sense of the word and not just a thrower. Don't tell me wins are a meaningless stat because I ain't buying it. I agree. Jack was an ace. Those are the guys who just make a difference by bringing confidence to a team. There might be 4 aces now in all of baseball. I believe Steve Carlton was a 20 game winner on a last place team. There's really no logic to it. Danks may be one of those guys who will have an impressive ERA but win and losses will be around .500 no matter what team he is on. I feel that way about Zack Grienke.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 12, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) We just got out Sox'd.
  7. Having the lead would have been nice. They've used Crain and Santos. I don't like the chances of the pen winning in extra innings.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) Hawk is becoming Santo. Throw it away? Really. That's what he goes with. This may be the season where Hawk loses his sense of homerism.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) At least we have found a closer. Who will have far more appearances than saves.
  10. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Pierre is so bad at the game of baseball overall, you just know that once his current contract is over, he'll be out of baseball and selling insurance or something. Baseball still has plenty of stupid owners.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:06 PM) Until LF and 3B gets figured out, I'm comfortable in saying we're not a good team. You can survive with a crappy hitting catcher, but having pathetic offensive players at LF and 3B in the AL is just a waste of outs. Could this be the 3rd season in a row where they had to replace the opening day 3rd baseman? Jaun Uribe anyone?
  12. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 11, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) think the angels advanced scouting told the angels teahen sucks at third and take advantage of him Nope, it doesn't take a scout to know that.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) I'll say one thing. The record of the Twins' AA and AAA teams these last seasons is a serious concern. Development is one thing, but they've compiled the worst record in the minors in 2010 and 2011 and it's now reflected at the major league level as well. When a major league team is having difficulty succeeding in terms of w/l record, they group all their prospects together and hope that they'll developing a "winning" habit that won't be so negatively counteracted when they get to the big leagues with a team like the Royals or Pirates. Then there's Kenny who likes to acquire players from the Royals.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) 1,459 ks in 1,469.2 IP with a 1.19 WHIP, 3.32 ERA and a .231 batting average doesn't spell ace to you? Jesus Christ. If he can ever be healthy again for a given period, Jake will show that he indeed is an ace. That's a big if, of course. However, his resume is acetastic in my book. Nope it doesn't. I think you have to throw in victories when defining an ace. I believe an ace will still win 15 on a bad team.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) Not sure, it would really depend on the circumstances. And I would hope Chicago would get a new team to replace them. It would probably be better if they played in the suburbs still going as a "Chicago" team.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) It's a lot harder to find guys who have the resume that Jake Peavy does. Outside of winning the CY Young, his resume does not spell "ace" in my book.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) Like in 2008, when Peavy went 10-11 despite a 2.85 ERA. Or when he went 11-14 in 2006. That is irrelevant when regarding Sox fans. I've come across comments on this and another forum that none of this major losing streak would happen if Peavy were here.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) Not really. Check StubHub. Cardinals are in town, temp will be 80 degrees tommorrow night and there are tickets on sale for a whopping $5. What's up with that?
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) John danks does not make the team not score runs for Danks. He'll get his chance when they play a NL team. What is the team offense stats when Danks is out there? Anyone know?
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Being in Chicago, I'd still be able to attend MLB games regularly on the North Side You must be wealthy then.
  21. That would have a lot to do with if they were still called the White Sox. I was a Baltimore Colts fan and remained a Colts fan when they moved to Indy. I tend to associate teams with their names and logs than what city they play in.
  22. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ May 10, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) ... and everyone says AJ adds no value. Coop for manager! Have you ever heard Coop on the SCORE? He can't deal with fan criticism. I'd rather have AJ as a manager.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) You have to stick your best starter in the pen when the other five are named Floyd, Danks, Buehrle, Peavy and Jackson. I'd be OK with putting Jackson in the pen but everybody says he makes too much money for that. Why not stick with a 6 man rotation until it stops working. Does it sound just as ridiculous to have an overpaid mental midget start because he's making all of that money? You never know he could be the light outs closer that is needed instead of the other one that has blown 5? saves and only throws hard? Do we throw out logic, tradition and economics at the expense of winning?
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) And the counter-argument is that Danks would thrive pitching for an offense that actually supported him and gave him more confidence that he wouldn't have to be out there on eggshells worrying about giving up 1 or 2 runs. Then again there may be guys with great stats but mediocre W-L, and they are still mediocre in the win column when going to a different team that is not the Yankees. Some guys just win when they are on the mound. So many Sox fans believe that about Peavy. There is that mental aspect of the game a certain player brings to a team. How do they fare against division rivals? How many times against the Twins is it that this whole team shows no mental toughness? I find it odd that fans look to Jake Peavy for this and no one else. I think you have to take some consideration with wins and losses.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) I don't know anything about Konerko off of the field, but there is no way of knowing that, thanks to Bud Selig and company. PK had 2 really bad seasons, so I do have my doubts he is 100% clean.
