QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) It goes way beyond that. Now every game there are 2-3 mental errors and 2-3 physical errors that are almost inexplicable for modern baseball players. That seems to run deep in the organization. I'm guessing KW has a lot of tolerance for this. The organization needs an overhaul. I've heard many times that this is a dumb baseball team.

QUOTE (since56 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Under this reasoning a manager is not needed. Only guys with bats. I doubt most managers would make that much of a difference since this is a team full of veterans.

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) I say trade ozzie for Gardenhire then... How long will it take for Sox fans to say, "he can't take the team to the next level?".

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) I don't think so. I think they are human beings that react to stress like other human beings. If you think that a "professional" can not be negatively affected by booing from the home crowd, how would you like it if you were having surgery and people in the operating room were booing the surgeon. I don't see that as a positive. Since I want the Sox to win BADLY (getting depressed I'm ashamed to say), I hope for things that are positive. They can not be motivated more than they already are. They need to loosen up. Konerko is one the most uptight players and I think that rubs off on the rest of the team. How about Konerko in a Flash costume? Might give him an edge to keep him from getting picked off. I wonder how Jackie Robinson would reply to this.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) this. (2 weeks into the season lol) well if ozzie should be fired then gardenhire should be fired too, they have a worse record than we do and i dont hear twins fans saying he should be gone because 2 weeks worth of baseball oh and francona too while were at it Twin fans wanted Gardenhire gone after the post season. Managers get too much blame and credit.

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) I wouldn't. Quite frankly, somebody calling JR cheap really hasn't had ground to stand on since about 2004. He's proven he'll spend, and JR and Ozzie have proven that they won't win outside of a magic in a bottle year 6 seasons ago. If this season continues to go to hell, those two need to go to the unemployment line. And if we go young at GM and manager with guys who have heard of advanced statistics, can develop and keep young players, and won't waste outs bunting and stealing every single day, I'd be thrilled. So should the rest of the staff. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) I'd hope they wouldn't...way too much money for someone that had already had some red flags due to injuries. Too much money on one guy could mean less money for other free agents. The fans also label Mauer as a no show when it comes to the post season. -
QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) I love when people rip on WSI. Losers Some of us are exiled and cannot return there.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) I think a lot of Twins' fans might trade the last decade for our World Series, that's for sure. It was interesting reading what their fans said after the post season. Gardenhire can't win the big one. (even some would prefer Ozzie) Mauer contract was a waste of money. Change in organization philosophy. Those were the big 3. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) I thought this would be an appropriate thread for this . . . Anyone missing Bobby yet? It will be interesting to see how well he does in a different organization. Isn't he with the Red Sox?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 08:50 AM) Decision was made in the off season that MB would be under lower pitch counts than in years past, even if he's coasting after 95+ pitches/8 innings. As the innings continue to pile on over the years, Buehrle's running out of gas earlier and earlier in the season...and if this team is going to contend in the playoffs, or even get into the playoffs, we need Buehrle to have some gas left during the stretch run. Call me crazy, but despite Buehrle coasting, a closer should be able to close out a 1-0 game against one of the worst offenses in the game. If we can't trust Thornton now, we can't trust him later while he "works out his problems" and games become increasingly important. Which also leads me to this: Everyone here just assumes he will work out his problems based on previous seasons. However, this isn't previous seasons...it's 2011. We may have to consider that Thornton won't come out of this, especially when placed in closer situations game after game. Also, it's funny to listen to Sox fans talk about how Ozzie is such a bad tactical manager. I've heard, on repeated occasions, from other teams fans and announcers and radio personalities that they'd LOVE to have Ozzie as their teams manager. While I understand many here at Soxtalk would love to see him fired, the fact is he'd have another managerial job with another major league team tomorrow. Great post.

Arguments for keeping managers, Dunn's value, etc.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 12:51 AM) I would imagine a lot of Sox fans would rather have Gardenhire, and at least 50% of Twins' fans think Gardy isn't the guy "to get to the next level" but that's he is a very good manager, overall. Not me. I still think managers get way too much credit good or bad. Then again there are some managers who always win where ever they go. Funny, looking back at the Santana deal. Many Twin fans were mentioning how they don't have an ace. Well, they got rid of one. They also seem to do well in getting rid of players when their value is the highest. Most players don't excel at a higher level when they leave the organization. -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) I am actually VERY afraid of the Royals. Not really this coming year, but soon. People are saying that the Royals farm system is the best farm system that they've ever seen. We could soon have our very own version of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Central, and that worries the s*** outta me. I'm even more afraid of Kenny acquiring more Royal "talent". We've heard this before about the Royals someday becoming dangerous. Losing is a habit for them. I

This team doesn't need any more Royals. -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Seriously, who shoots a dog? What a f***er. I wish they had been caught. Could have been an accident. This might have been prevented if the original owner didn't leave the dog go astray.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101215/ap_on_...e/bbo_cliff_lee I just read this. I say bullshevik on some of it-not regrading Lee. Players still follow the money. Then again New York is one of the most expensive places to live because of taxation. I read where an NBA player wanted out of Toronto because of taxes.

This Colts suck this year so I am even more psyched about the 2011 White Sox. I can't wait til March. I live 10 minutes away from the ST facility.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) I don't envy the twins either. They can have all of their meaningless playoff apperances. Nothing they've done these last decade will top 2005. Probably not even come close to the 2005 post season.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 10:34 AM) What I've realized really sucks about baseball is that the only way to determine who is truly the best team........ It's not about the best team. It's who is hottest at the moment and how they match up. That happens in the NHL, NFL, NBA.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 30, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) I don't think he's that good. Doesn't walk, slow, awful defender. Sounds like the perfect White Sox.

I miss Uribe. It's pretty easy when the replacements have been Fields and Teahan.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) Lot of helmet to helmet hits it seemed like today. They were talking about that after last night's game. It appears the rules are not enforced enough or they should change it to where unintentional hits should be penalized. Fining athletes does nothing. Maybe suspensions will.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 10:43 AM) True, but we seem to be OK against the Bosox and Yankees, except for that road trip two seasons ago in September. We get up for them. We need some former Twins to at least wake up our dugout or shake our dugout out of fear when we play Minnesota. Can't you already picture all those doubles and gappers the Twins will rake against us again next year already? They have AJ. Kenny likes to collect guys from the Royals. They don't have to worry about the Twins if they could beat KC and Clev on a consistent basis.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) If we can afford to pay Edwin that kinda money you'd think we'd make it happen to keep Konerko. Thing is, even if Paulie drops off offensively the next 3 years, he's a human vacuum on scoops at first and doesn't have too bad of range either. The worst case scenario is trying to replace him with 2 cheap guys like they did for the DH. I think he'll be on the team next year.
