QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) I think the Sox go into games against the Twins with a defeatist attitude too often. I don't know how you change that. Apparently the Sox don't either. I don't know if that mystery will be solved. It's happened under 2 managers, lots of roster changes. They idea is to win more games than the other teams in the division. You can't win a division by consistently losing to teams below 3rd place in any division.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) They do when they have to work with him. They avoid it when they can because they don't want to grossly overpay nor do they want to deal with players who almost certainly end up testing free agency. I like that they avoid working with Boras. The aren't the only team in the league that practices this.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) This was clearly a case of a GM who's biggest strength is his biggest weakness in that he's always, and I mean always, playing for the right now while blatantly ignoring the future. No matter how many times this formula fails. Hopefully that is starting to wear out on Reinsdorf. I want a GM who also will build a good farm system. Rumor has it the Sox have one of the worst in baseball. If Hahn is good at building a farm system, they should keep him.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) Giant wooden slats are the most uncomfortable seating surface they could have built IMO. Its very strange. I've been to that stadium and although its better than the dome, I still think they really made some bad design choices. I dont get the whole idea of keeping the outfield fans so far from the field, I like stadiums where the first row is closer to the playing surface. And down goes the twins. An idea like that must have come from coaching legend Bud Grant.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Trading from an area of strength like starting pitching is going to open up a weakness. If we trade one of our starters, who fills in? Pitching is very expensive when you get it from the outside. Jackson is $8M next season. I wonder how good he will be when the AL gets another look at him.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Some of you guys are seriously overrating CQ. He's injury prone and has exactly 1 tool. That 1 tool=gettng injured.

QUOTE (striker @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) My problem with the staff as is is we need offense and if we make the playoffs not all five starters (assuming Peavy is healthy) would start in the playoffs, but that bat we could have acquired would. If Peavy is healthy then someone gets dealt. If Sale can start then maybe two get dealt. Right now we have these guys that could start: Peavy Buehrle Floyd Danks Jackson Sale Garcia? Pena? Only 4 of them have to be really good. The 5th can be ok or good. But we really need OBP and run production in the middle of our lineup. This was suppose to be the strength of the team. They failed. If you need more offense, that means the staff is bad and in 2010 they were. Didn't the "ace" start 0-3?

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Yeah, where is this written? Just because the Twins are the team that humiliate us on a regular basis, we don't have to emulate them. We just have to emulate a team that wins. It's almost a straw man argument. We get it thrown in our faces that the Twins can't win anything in the postseason, but we're really just upset that we can't beat them in the regular season. The postseason has nothing to do with the argument. They prevent us from winning in the regular season, and that's the main point. It's not the Twins that prevent them from winning, it's not beating those they should. Some teams have hang ups with other teams. The best way to avoid it is win the games they are suppose to to make it not the only factor. In baseball you get enough chances that winning is division is not totally relied on winning every season series against division foes. -

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) I enjoy making rash and vague judgments within small sample sizes too. Yep, "Big game Danks" was not on the list. He would be #1 in my rash and vague judgment list. -
How many games will this team win in 2010?
kitekrazy replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought they would be closer to losing 90 than winning 90. Getting guys like Pierre, Jones and Teahan didn't really impress me as for winning a division. Peavy and Qunetin were ? and will be in 2011. I hoped Dye would have signed as a DH since they lost some offense. I'm surprised that the division winner won 94 games. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) Carlos Torres' game simply does not translate to the MLB, and he really isn't starter quality material. The White Sox know this, which is why they've avoided using him in the rotation as best they can. I can't figure out what the organization sees in Pena either?

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) 25% would be my guess I'm going with 90%. I think Kenny is deceiving fans just to make himself look better. If "the money isn't there" is his excuse then he is the one to blame. People will start pointing fingers at the Jackson trade and of course the money for Manny Ramirez. So we may be looking at an organization that has depleted funds and a depleted farm system under Kenny. Reinsdorf seems to show a loyalty towards certain players, I think the same will be with Konerko. You have to appreciate PK. He's one of the few athletes in a contract year who decides not to make it an issue and rarely addressed it. (take note Ozzie Guillen) Not signing Thome was a big controversy, imagine if they don't sign Konerko and even worse, if he became a Twin. Who do you replace him with at the same amount of money? I'm not fond of replacing a player with players from the NL. They have to make the biggest adjustment since the talent is so lopsided.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) I think i kinda wanna see both Ozzie and KW go. That's probably a good idea. When franchises become soap operas and have their own TV show they usually don't win. Then again I never trust the credibility of any article that uses the words "unnamed sources". I'm also tired of Kenny discussing contracts, "Oh I don't know, we may not be able to sign this guy". Then there's Reinsdorf's silence. Maybe, just maybe, there may be bigger changes in ownership. I think Kenny's way of setting up a ball club and Ozzie's philosophy of what a team should be like can't exist unless they are winning. Ozzie has yet to learn the diplomacy of being a manager. Basically being too honest and not knowing when to shut up.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) but maybe they'll use this big league experience, so the next time they're called upon when we need them they won't go out to the mound and poop a brick in a big game. Now if they could only keep veterans from doing that....

Walker May Retire -- according to the Sun Times
kitekrazy replied to shago's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wow, don't let someone derail a thread calling 2005 a fluke. I thought Mike North was the only idiot to believe that. Now there are two. Teams change rosters so much that repeats are getting non existent. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) Well, if nothing else, it seems the team has found a long man / spot starter for 2011 in Tony Pena. That was kind of a surprise find. They should make him a starter. He can do less damage every 5th day.

Sox V. A's - Buehrle V. Cahill

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) I consider over .500 "respectable". Season aint over yet. I would like to see some sign that they will win another game. They've been stuck at 79 for quite some time. They might finish 3rd. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) I don't know about you guys and girls but I really think Oz will reach an agreement with Jerry that lets him go to Florida. I expect the rumors of his resignation to happen. Why would you think that? BTW, I think the agreement would have to be between Jerry and Florida. -

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Very odd that he had less talent (offensive potential) on the roster as a whole this year than in previous years, and we actually hit better this year than in recent years under his tenure. If people believe coaches are that important, Coop should be gone before Walker. The two young aces seems to be getting worse. -

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) out of curiousity, what makes a good hitting coach? What's the pre-requisite? (spelling?) What qualifications should one have? If I had a good one, I would rather have them in the farm system. Everyone thought that new coach the Cubs got would make a difference. He didn't. I'd love to see the Big Hurt as a hitting coach but expose him to the farm system. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) DH There is a great chance KW botches this up again next year, if they revert to the approach of crying poor and going with another band-aid solution. As far as Dunn goes, a lot depends I think on whether the Nationals offer arbitration. Signing him is going to cost a ton of money, and a pick in the 16-19 range in the first round, it's definitely not worth it. And we've heard over and over again he doesn't want to DH exclusively. If he doesn't botch that up, he'll fill that need only to make another hole elsewhere. Getting a career DH sure cost a lot of money to fix that hole made in CF.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) It's the same damn saga almost every year. When Ozzie's your manager, your team will suck late in the year, even if the rotating DH is in effect. We're like the anti-Rockies. Maybe Ozzie should ask Jim Tracy how he keeps his guys so fresh in September. Blaming the leaders. If you want to go that route, the strength of the team is now the weakness. Pitching was disappointing in the beginning and now. Should Coop get this lifetime free pass? It seems like he can get a good year or two out of pitchers and then a steady decline. How many of the younger guys have progressed on this team? Not Danks or Floyd. Another whacked out theory I have is the Sox organization overlooks mental skills. Too often I've seen enough of the younger pitchers, getting two quick outs and can't finish. They also can't pitch to cover up a fielder's mistake. I guess that's why they aquired Peavy because of his mental game. To do something for the staff that is beyond Coop's abilities. The Twins know they don't have to beat the Sox, because they know the Sox will beat themselves. Why is it that with changing rosters and 2 managers in this decade, they still can't beat the Twins? Maybe they aquire players who can't perform in pressure situations. Getting players from habitual losing organizations like the Royals doesn't help. Getting players from the NL takes longer for them to make adjustments since the AL seems superior in every way. If the team falls to 3rd place, then get rid of Kenny, Ozzie, Coop and Walker.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) I would watch Sox games even if they were in last place and I would do it to the end of the season. Winter lasts a long time here Me too. Bad Sox baseball vs. crap on major networks, I still like to watch the Sox. BTW, there is a way to watch the Sox for out of staters. Go to Livescorehunter.com and watch via stream torrent. Meanwhile, I get to watch a very productive Daniel Hudson.
