9/19 ESPN Sunday Night Baseball- Tigers @ Sox
kitekrazy replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2010 Season in Review
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:02 AM) The announcers should spend the whole game blasting the Sox for this abomination of a season. Start the season horribly. Have one amazing amazing run. End the season horribly. This season just leaves a horrible taste. It's going to make for a s***ty offseason wondering if we're going to play the same kind of ball next year. s***ty vs. the Central and basically dysfunctional baseball. I think the Tigers define under achieving more than the Sox. Some had the Tigers winning the Central. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) If we are talking about someone like Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder I'd do it. Otherwise, I hold on to Gordo. Having a cheap star is worth getting talent over and above his ability. I would want one of those guys for at least four years to do that.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Kenny Williams and our farm system are more troublesome to me than Ozzie. Look at what we have at Charlotte and Birmingham -- and it don't look pretty. And williams needs to explain to The Chairman again why he is paying Manny $4 million and why he traded Hudson and Gonzalez. I don't think Kenny has to explain the money. He says, "Jerry, can I?"

Minor League playoffs: should you care?
kitekrazy replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in FutureSox Board
I regret not following the future of the Sox. For those of you following the farm system, I salute you. You guys are the better fans. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) Guillen would do better in the AL with the Braves or Marlins or whatever team, although I sincerely doubt he would be able to beat the Phillies. I just don't know about LaRussa. Isn't he 67? The first issue is the salary, which will be 5X as much as we've ever paid a manager. The second issue is what is his role, GM or manager, or both? I wouldn't mind it for one season, though. To tell the truth, I think if we don't win in 2011, unless something changes dramatically next year, we're really going to be behind the 8 ball in terms of expiring contracts and roster turnover. Of course, I don't think LaRussa would take a one year contract with the constant questions about what would happen in the future from the media...OTOH, TLR would never sit patiently (Piniella had the same problem with the Rays) through any type of rebuild with youth. He would just quit after one year, but you still would have to give him a 3 year contract at the minimum. I would imagine after so many years with one organization he would quit than change scenery.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) I give DAllen so much credit for stating how big of a disaster the Manny acquisition would be. Needless to say, Manny will not be back next season unless he goes Tulo over the next two weeks. I think fans got carried away with putting the savior image on Manny. He can't solve the pen problems. It's at the point where a pen appearance is an automatic loss.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Quick and painless in the bottom of the 9th and the Sox drop again They didn't get the memo they aren't playing the Twins anymore.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) I see that Sale got introduced to bullpen failure that has plauged the Sox this season. They all have to join in with the giving up of the big bombs late Maybe it's time for the Sox to have a contest "Pitcher for a Day". Somebody in the stands or A ball, instructional league, whatever could just get someone out and not fill the bases.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) In a heartbeat...there is nothing that Ozzie does anymore that can be considered above average. I guarantee you that at least LaRussa would manage like we're an AL team. I'm also sick and tired of Ozzie's teams fading down the stretch. You mean Kenny's teams. He signed those guys.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Put Ozzies numbers out over 32 years, and they are almost identical. They anti Ozzie group refuse to see that. Give each manager the Yankees and they will probably be identical as well.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Yep. Then he came in the dugout and slammed his mitt down at the bench. Not sure I want to see that out of him. Fans always find that appeasing. They think he really cared.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) Ouch, Sale just got tattoo'd by a Scott Sizemore (WTF?) homerun to LF. He crushed it.... It had to happen eventually. Stink spreads when it comes to the pen.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 07:43 AM) If the Sox played .500 vs. Minnesota, they would be 1 game out right now. How about Cleveland, KC, Baltimore....
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Anybody think there could be any merit to this fluff? No. It's hard to find anything of merit in a Rodger's article.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Is LaRussa really that much better than Ozzie Guillen? Not now. I wonder what the attitude among Cardinal fans are about LaRussa. He's no different than any other manager. There's no magic wand when you don't have the talent.
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) I guess what I'm saying is maybe...just maybe the players on this roster would respond to somebody of LaRussa's stature differently. Who knows...I could be a worse response. Plus...you'd have to factor in how Paulie'd feel about it. I think it's time for Larussa to hang it up. I doubt he wants the challenge of a new team. When managers get old they get very complacent. There will be no spark coming out of that move.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) I don't want LaRussa if it means no more Cooper like some people are saying. Why not? If the Ozzie/Walker haters used the same standards and apply them to Coop, he should be the out the door. Outside of having a reputation most on this staff (long term) have shown more signs of regression. So his reputation has overshadowed his works. The pitching staff is the #1 reason why they might finish in 2nd and hopefully not 3rd.
-
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 05:39 AM) Kenny is pretty good at acquiring pitching talent. Danks, Floyd, Jenks, Thornton, Jackson,Pena, and Peavy were all very good pickups without giving a bunch away. My problem with him is that he goes all one way with the everyday players. It's either been all power and no speed/contact or atttempting the opposite this year. Is it that tough to get a good mix of both. The Sox have enough pieces in place to make the proper adjustments. They just need to do it. Pena to me is the 2nd coming of McDougal or the Kotsay of the pen. Floyd keeps regressing. Danks may be the next Javy. Might have some million dollar arms with 10 cent brains. That's what some believe about Jackson. Coops will fix em as every one says but that appears to be short term any more.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) Really?? That would kinda suck. I would laugh and laugh if that haunts the Sox more than the Thome walk off HR of 2010. I will call it the Larussa effect. Managers get too much credit and blame for what happens on the field.

Ridiculously long, good Posnanski article on KW.

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) This whole, "at least we're not the Royals" sentiment is depressing. We will be if Kenny gets more of those Royal players. -
QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) Kenny is just average. There's really no other way to put it. For every good move he makes, you have a Kotsay, Linebrink, Manny, Teahen, etc. It is what it is. Our organization is nothing more than average, from top to bottom. Our scouting is, arguably, below average. I mean, the Sox just don't develop major league talent, and it's pretty f***ing sad. Even teams that finish in the top 8 year after year develop major league talent, despite their poor draft positions. There's just no excuse for it. We have to start at the beginning and work our way up. The biggest, most glaring problem this team has, is our scouting staff and minor league development. It's just downright brutal. Reminds me of the Bears and Jerry Angelo. The scouting dept. might be getting better. Good organizations hit more on their top pick. Beckham has been productive in a short time, so has Sale.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Did they laugh at us in the locker room? I doubt it. That's fans' misconception that big league ball players treat opposing teams like high school rivalries. They are probably more relieved that it's a lot more difficult for that same team to come back again when they were 9 out early in the season.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) It's bad enough our TV announcer and our manager can't stop fawning over them whenever the Sox are about to face them. Maybe that's why the Sox never beat them -- they're mentally beaten before they begin every series against them. I doubt it.
-
QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) I think the white sox have played harder than they have in years past, but I never like a team that comes into games already defeated. You can't tell me that one player on that team actually thinks that they will beat the twins on a given night. That's why, as much as I like them, maybe getting rid of guys like Konerko, Buehrle, AJP and Jenks will turn over a new leaf in the locker room. The team just needs to go in a different direction and you can;'t tell me that going into next season anyone on the team will actually believe that they can beat the twins. It's an uphill battle How about beating the Royals, Indians and Orioles? I could care less if they beat the Twins or not as long as they have the most wins in the division. Buehrle has a winning record against the Twins. Floyd has gotten worse. Danks might be more of a victim of losing to the Twins before he steps on the mound.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 11:47 PM) This. Not to mention it seems they hustle on groundball outs (I remember Span, I think it was Span was benched for not running out a grounder, something we see most of our players not doing) they don't beat themselves with errors too often, they don't run into outs and know the situation on when to bunt and when not to bunt, etc.. etc.. They play the game of baseball beautifully. Is this the same guy that also played too shallow in CF a few years back?
