If anyone here still likes Teahen...

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Alexei is a natural SS and has all the gifts to succeed at that position. He has always shown flashes of how good he can be defensively, and he finally puts it together this year. I just don't see how Viceido being 5'10 and 240 will turn out to be a sufficient third basemen defensively. From what i have seen so far in the big leagues and the minor leagues, it's highly unlikely Viceido can bring a good glove at third. Agreed and having a guy like Omar can make a difference. Alexei was prone to mental errors more than anything. I believe the Sox scouting seem to lack the ability to see a bad fielder and there's never going to be enough improvement without it being exposed at the big league level. You can never have enough hitting to compensate for bad defense. -
Well I'm happy the Colts lost. No more crap of trying to jerk around with going 16-0. That's the best thing that happened to them.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3994057.story BTW, there's an error in this article. Thomas is now a DH for the Twins. A change of scenery can impact a player. A lot of it has to do with who is hitting before or after you, who's on base, are they the type of guy on base who knows how to distract a pitcher. Kotasy can't or never can replace a hitter like Thome but it gives you options to rest guys on the field and still give them bats. Nothing wrong with a full time DH but they should be able to field a position other than one held by an equal or better hitter. I still believe the Sox had hopes Dye would have changed his mind. Money always seems to change a player's mind. Not so with Dye so I have to give him a thumbs up for walking away from the game and being content with his accomplishments. Not Brett Favre there. Not signing Thome probably has more to do with Carlos Quentin than giving the legendary Mark Kotsay more at bats.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) I say work with Viciedo all winter on his defense at third and he is the starting third baseman next year. That would be another Josh Field experiment. If defense isn't there to begin with, how much can a guy improve in that area? Hitters go in slumps but they can still be helpful with the glove. Getting a decent guy to play 3rd may be another one of those expensive experiments. Don't the Sox have a guy to play 3rd in the organization named Morel? -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) I concede he seems like a great guy, but I don't know how he made it to the big leagues. His defense is pathetic. He thinks he's a power hitter swinging that massive Soriano-sized bat. He needs to re-do his game, the way Lilly apparently worked on his last offseason. Look at the organization he came from. They aren't exactly a winning organization. This wasn't really a trade to take advantage of a naive GM or fire sale. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) I'm pretty sure you manage to call someone retarded in each of your posts. I didn't say he was. Read the post.

QUOTE (BearingPro @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) Ron Gardenhire figured a way to get the most from good old #25. JT has 23 dingers and everyone seemingly critical to our chances (see Twins 1-0 win Saturday night). Thats OK we got Mark Kotsay... Geez only 41 post and this is the best you can come up with? This has been beat to death more so by the baseball retarded. YAWN

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 06:59 AM) I'm still waiting for Anorexei Ramirez to bulk up. It shocked me when the say he lost 5 lbs. during last offseason. He looks like one of the dudes that played MLB baseball in the pre Steroid/Selig era.

Chicago White Sox. Kansas City Royals. 6:05 PM CST

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Can we all agree the White Sox aren't built to beat teams in their own division? Sox need to work on that for the future. I can't believe it's just a couple weeks from the offseason again. This was one of the most annoying seasons in my Sox fandom for some reason. Face it the Sox pitching staff has been a paper tiger. Jackson was due for a bad start. JR needs to think things over. Mediocrity is getting expensive (common among all Chicago teams). A lot of money has been thrown around to finish in 2nd place. Put those $$$ in scouting. -
Why Do the Sox Suck Vs. Central Division Teams?
kitekrazy replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) I agree 100 percent caufield. Nice post. So the question is ... did the Sox actually overachieve? I think our starters were good, not great. Bullpen same as last year. OK at times, actually very good during the 25-5, but overall unreliable. Hitters got off to that hellish start, totally unacceptable April and May. Did the team overachieve? One could say in April and May the team under achieved. All aspects of the game except for the pen were terrible. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) I am not an AJ fan but who replaces him? Also Quentin has zero value as a trade option now so it is best to hang on to him. I think if AJ goes Danks is part of a deal for a catcher. I think they keep him only because of handling pitchers.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) Seriously. As frustrating as it may be, if we go 8-2 on a 10 game road trip that takes us through Detroit and Boston and still manage to lose ground in the division, you just have to tip your cap. Hard to get too angry at the Sox for playing .800 ball on the road. That said, I agree we need this game and then to make up one game next series. If we can go into the Twins series 4 back, then anything is possible. Although a sweep would be quite a feat, it is not out of question and then to be 1 game back with 2 weeks to go anything can happen. I thought this team would only win about 75 games this year. I haven't gotten too upset over this season since they exceeded my expectations. It's been awhile since the Sox have put together nice winning streaks. They dug too deep of a hole to crawl out of when the season started.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) i think the twins problem is a 2 headed monster. 1) managing - gardenhire keeps that team believing in itself, makes the right moves, and doesn't overdo matchups. he also values hustle players, and hustle helps you make the other team make mistakes, leading to lucky wins. 2) farm system - our examples have been sale and beckham, look how much they helped our teams when they joined. young players energize the team and when they play well, they can really help. the twins consistently bring up quality prospects and fill them in spots they need. they just out manage and out depth our sox, but sometimes talent trumps and we win the division and/or world series. they haven't even gotten to a world series, so ill take our team. I wonder if Twin fans think Gardenhire is as immortal as the hate Ozzie crowd thinks he's immortal. One could make the case the Twins are over achievers. They get to play a few more games in Oct., that's about it. The farm system is always an interesting topic. Maybe they are better at scouting. Maybe they draft guys who already have a good grasp on how to play the game. They are better at winning baseball games than the Sox. The Sox have a habit of losing to teams they should beat.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) No one was talking about ozzieball and the whitesox run production, but thanks for your meaningless side comments. Did you forget the whitesox are 2nd in the AL in batting with RISP at .281. Looks like you did. Some members are very predictable.

Does money rule all personnel decisions in baseball?
kitekrazy replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:53 AM) Teahen just doesn't have a position. He simply sucks at third. He's bad in right. He's not even good at second. Bad bad acquisition. Again, he'd be OK to play once a week assuming he doesn't cost us that game ever week with his glove. I just think we can't afford to keep him around, especially if Omar retires and we start him at third. Him playing everyday will show up regularly in the won/loss column if he's in the field somewhere. It's the second coming of Josh Fields. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) I would think we would just simply dump Teahen or trade him to the Pirates and pay all but $500,000 of his salary. If not dump Teahen ... can the White Sox justify keeping him and making him a once a week guy? It's obvious no matter where you put him, he is not a good enough defensive player to be on the roster of a so called contender. Who cares about the money? Just dump him or demote him to a Sunday lineup guy. I am assuming the answer to my question is we have to start Teahen because of his salary, just as we had to keep pitching Linebrink cause of his guaranteed salary. I'm saying eating Teahen's salary should be a no brainer. It's another example where Kenny exhibits defense is the least of priorities when it comes to players. I never understood this acquisition at all. I guess he was one of those guys who use to hurt the Sox. Well he's still doing it. Note to Kenny: No more players from losing organizations especially the Royals. -
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) It pains me to think of all the extra wins we would have had if another manager was here to not make the team hit .200 from April-June 10th, or make the starting pitchers not suck ass for 2 months, or make the bullpen not collapse. DAMN YOU TO HELL OZZZZIEIEIEE!!!!! Its comical how upset you guys are getting over the most insignificant coach of the 3 big sports. Save your outrage for the disgrace that is the Bears coaching and front office that legitimately destroys that team. Oh no, there goes someone throwing logic around here.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 11:41 PM) Yeah but I don't go for one or two "turning points" We sucked in April and May. We couldn't beat KC, Cleveland or Detroit. The O's kicked our ass. We had other late inning implosions. But I know (not talking about you) after the season Jenks and Guillen/Kotsay/Thome will take the full blame for our placing second. Never mind all those games Jenks did save. That's too sane for some to believe.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) What'da know. Another thread turning into Kotsay/Thome on a day we won our seventh game in a row. Wow. I will summarize the discussion. Kotsay equal bad. Jones is beloved. Thome is a god. We know. Kudos to Jimmy on a great season. Ozzie equal the devil for not wanting Thome. And yet we win and win and win. Seven in a row. You managed to nail the symptoms of baseball retardedness that has plagued some of the members here. They'll even post stats to support their baseball retardedness.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) This thread is about the bullpen! A couple cool people mentioned Jenks in the winner's thread. He got abused in the game threads again. What'd he do today. Put on one baserunner? I just can't believe Sox fans refuse to give credit to a guy when he helps the team win (and I never said ALL Sox fans; read the game thread). They only want to give credit to Ozzie and Kotsay for ruining the season.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 10:47 PM) I'll remind Peyton Manning he is still being called a playoff choker, who can't get out of the first round then. The media still does that because he doesn't have 3 rings like Brady.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) Huh? So you throw '05 in my face and choose to ignore the fact the Colts won the SB 4 years ago? They still get that label? Sure. 1000% Sure. See 2008-9 post seasons. One and done. They got that label again going into 2010. Read the Indy Star or watch ESPN when the guys who have a man crush on Brady respond.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) How do you figure? What's better in a vacuum, a player with a .750 OPS or a player with a .820 OPS? You can't quantify the exact number of runs created by having a higher OPS but it's not like it's hard to tell which one you'd rather have, either. Given the choice between giving away a free out with one of the team's better hitters in the middle of a game I'd rather not... given the choice between a player who gets thrown out stealing unnecessarily often and staying on first more (or even better, only being sent to steal when it's advantageous to do so) I'd take not being thrown out. I would agree 100% if that guy on base is Lillibridge.
-
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) Ya... it's not like the Braves or the Colts have won the World Series or the Super Bowl respectively before with those divisional wins or anything.. oh wait.... The Colts still get that label. Just read the Indy Star. Despite that, division crowns are meaningless these days if a World Series is not involved with it.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) The Twins need to get it over with and just win the WS. If they faceplant again in the playoffs, it'll be the same scenario again next season. You are right. They will roll to the title again with Nathan and Morneau. The Sox will have to do some tinkering again before next season. If Teahen is our starting third baseman, that's enough to assure second place in itself. Their talent falls short when they have to face the AL East in the post season. I tend to think they are more streaky than talented if you were to look at individual numbers.
