QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 10:43 AM) Why is this an issue today or for the Sox at all? That's the way the Chicago sports media runs. They are into "girly soap opera" stuff.
-
I didn't view the shirt as racist. Usually in the sports world the word "mow" refers to dominance.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 08:13 AM) I know, but it was as if no research was done on the guy at all. I'm not saying that was the case, but some of the at-bats looked so pathetic that thought came to me several times throughout the game. It doesn't matter. Good stuff still gets guys out. Everyone knew what Maddux and Clemens threw but it still didn't help.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 01:55 AM) The reason Ozzie will never get fired is that great picture in the dugout when he hugged Mark Buehrle after his second win, the game in which Buehrle gutted out the victory w/out his best stuff. Players appear to love Ozzie; Ozzie is great. A lot of people second guess this pitching move or that pinch hit move or this bunt or whatever. His decisions you may not agree with in hindsight but they are the decisions of a good baseball mind. You watch a baseball game, any game, and you can find s*** to second guess if your team loses. That's a fact. This year, Oz can't win, cause if the team sucks on a given night, the critics will simply say, 'Those are the players Oz wanted. It's his fault if the team didn't score enough to win.' That's a copout. KW puts the team together with input from Ozzie. It's his team. I think Oz's rotating DH idea is stupid, and I think we are a big bat short, but I still love Ozzie. Great post. Outside of the Sox world Ozzie is viewed as a good manager.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) Honestly, yeah, he probably should have toned that down a little bit, but I don't see it as that big of a deal. His overall point of course will be lost but he is absolutely right. And of course since this is Ozzie the media will probably make a bigger deal out of it than it needs to be. It wouldn't be news if the team was undefeated.

The only thing I see is the same pattern in hitting or lack of the past 3 years. The only thing has changed is the roster to some extent. I can see that as grounds for firing Walker but I think you wouldn't see much of a change.

Ozzie please resign, I know you can't sit through this again

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) That's true. I felt a lot more calm watching the game today. For whatever reason, my expectations for the team have been lowered greatly with our play in that first homestand. My expectations were lowered in the off season by who they obtained. Sure they can move around the bases better but this team will not be able to match up against Boston or New York in the post season. -

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) Kenny needs to take a Louisville Slugger into Ozzie's offense and remind him: This is the American League -- before we're a dozen games out. Ozzie is the perfect scapegoat this year. Kenny and Jerry need to either develop the farm system or spend money. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 09:27 AM) Can this story die already? I want to read stories about the team, not the coach's son being a brat. And props to Cowley for his award winning reporting on TwitterGate. Ugh. So tired of it. Chicago media lives for this stuff.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 10:34 AM) What is interesting in this story is how technology has changed how we complain about an employer. A couple beers after work, spouting off how your boss sucks was rarely a problem. Now, everyone has a bullhorn. An excellent post. I think some people foolishly view those Facebook, Twitter accounts as an extension of their false view of freedom of speech. These accounts could be the most damning thing in seeking employment.

This is what nepotism gets ya! I thought soap operas were reserved for the North Side.

QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) "Fashion caps" are the worst thing to ever happen to baseball. I agree. The fashion ones can get expensive.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) How do you get an RBI when no one's on base? I dont know that your overall thinking is wrong, but citing solely a total # of RBIs doesnt prove much of anything. That #'s contingent on what people in front of you are doing. Having Konerko or Thome on 1st in some case even 2nd is not much different than having no one on base.

Both. Why make it a chore.

What are the chances of the Sox eating Linebrink's contract?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 01:37 AM) How's he looking this spring? The money thing always amazes me in baseball. Teams play guys and keep guys cause they make a lot of money. And the LOSE GAMES because of this and ultimately lose money. If a guy sucks put him in the Carrasco role of last year. Long long relief or send him down. That's what they do in the NFL. They cut your ass. Player keeps the bonus money but not the yearly contract money. That's because the NFL always had better commissioners and not so stupid owners. But football is a sport that also relies more on team performance. If the NFL becomes anything like MLB, I'll find something else to do on Sundays. The most recent and most viewed Super Bowl featured two of the smallest markets in the NFL. Players do have to earn their check in the NFL especially when they get older. NFL teams get stuck with players too. Look at Tommie Harris. He's like the Rios of the Bears. -
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Phil Rogers is only beaten out by Rick Morrissey in the stupidity race, based on RM's stated refusal to deal Deng for Kobe 2 yrs ago. The both have managed to have a reputation that even members of the media point out their stupidity.

QUOTE (typewritermender @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Right but they're not the "black sox." For their aways and alternates the only "WHITE" in the uni is the logo. I'm not sure how "they're not the blue sox" et al. is an argument. Historically they've had plenty of blue & red in their unis. For the record, I'm not mad & I'm not trying to antagonize anybody. But I am legitimately shocked that I'm the only person that's tired of the unis. Zat is all I think when they did the change, Sox apparel was in the top 5 in sales. If they did change the unis, I would rather them revert back to the red pinstripes. That was a great looking. Those softball uniforms almost bring shame to be a Sox fan.

Who was the most reviled current Sox here
kitekrazy replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Tony Pena. The organization believes in him but I didn't see anything that convinces me. I think he's the 2nd coming of McDougal. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) So according to Heyman Adrian Gonzalez is seeking Mark Teixeira money from the Padres (8/$180) and San Diego is offering Torii Hunter money (5/$90M), I do believe this is the definition of an impasse. This should seal his being traded sometime in the not too distant future. The real answer is how long will it be before he becomes a Yankee.

Garfien: Sox made serious play for Halladay

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) What site are you referring to? I was banned from SouthSideSox for like 2 1/2 years for saying I hoped Boone Logan dies. Remember that one game where he had like 3 throwing errors in the inning? I said something to the effect of "I hope Boone Logan dies!" and I got banned. I was unbanned before the 2009 season when SB nation changed their site and everyone became unbanned. Then they banned me AGAIN for having "My president is white" in my status. It was a mock of the rap song that goes "My president is black, my lambo is blue, ..ect" and a play on the fact that Obama is half black and half white. They took that as somehow making me racist, even though I support Obama, and banned me for life with the nice little message "I gave you the opportunity to prove you weren't a Giant Douche. You failed." That site is informative, but god damn do they suck up to the "almighty" Cheat. And a bunch of uptight people too that can't handle a little satire signature. If China has a website equivalent, it would be southsidesox.com lol. You would have gotten banned at another site for those comments. It bothers me when sites ban but don't warn or ask you to change something. Sure, you may have violated TOA, but sometimes you see people push the envelope a bit and nothing happens, then one person takes a step farther and get banned without warning. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) I always like to do an advanced google search on that board for threads a year old or so. They are funny because it seems half the posts are by people who have banned next to their status. Being a moderator there must be a full time job just banning people . Yep. Too many mods with too many emotions. -

"Close" is a pretty vague word coming out of any GM. Having 3 to 5 discussions on the phone with a GM or agent could be interpreted as "close". -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) You do realize that this aging player would have replaced a platoon of two aging players at the DH, right? And that this aging players has been putting up consistently great numbers even in great lineups, while Jones crapped out in a great lineup for the Rangers, and Kotsay was never up to snuff for the Red Sox? Oh I know. There is a trend here that I thought was only possible by Jim Hendry and Al Davis.
-
I'm glad that Sox didn't fork over that kind of money for an aging ballplayer that everyone will blame Greg Walker when age catches with a player. He night not be as good because he isn't surrounded by all that talent like he had in New York.
