I thought Dye was already signed by someone.

Should a Sox fan WANT Mauer to stay in Minn?
kitekrazy replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 12:53 AM) I think it's better for baseball if a guy like Mauer stays in Minnesota. However, there are no circumstances under which the Sox should want him to stay there. I would like to see him in a Sox uniform. -

QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) I agree with you. The business of the game is boring when the same 3 teams are the only teams with a real chance to sign the annual top free agents. I wonder if this will ever change in MLB. I would like to see a salary cap. -
What are our realistic chances to land Damon?
kitekrazy replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just wonder if we aren't putting too much value on Damon? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) cleanest perceived player........... Some probably think Frank was juiced. Imagine if Frank did roids. I would think his average would be around .340 with 50 to 60 plus HRs and at least 2 triple crowns. I think people can get lost in players hitting home runs, but Frank was a very tough out. They would try to back door him only to see the ball get hit up the middle.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) I read that in the magazine. Tigers could have a better 1-3 (still don't think so) but there is no way a team has a better 1-5 than the Sox. That's where the "perts" miss the boat. If you have starters 4 and 5 give you innings and the 5th spot 10-12 wins, post season is lookin good. 2005 proved that.

I think MLB is the least predictable of all sports. Wasn't it at Sox Fest 2005, people were b****ing about the team? It seems PK is left out of the discussions. If he has a great year this can change things.

The Sox were weak at DH last year. I don't see it much different except they won't be totally slow on the bases. Odd that this team's recent history reflects injuries at the DH spot.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) If we go into this season with Andruw Jones/Mark Kotsay as our DH because Ozzie doesn't want a 'full-time' DH he better be gone if we don't make the playoffs. And this is from one of his biggest backers. I can't imagine KW would actually listen to him tho. I wouldn't put this all on Ozzie. I could see this current team not making the playoffs. Quentin hasn't played a full season and Peavy is not the healthiest of starters. It's quite possible Beckham may have the sophomore slump. Nothing has taken place in the off season to get me excited.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) Just a reminder: The 1 year in this decade where we didn't focus on power we won the World Series. Although there are a million ways to chop up this statement of mine, I still give it weight. But that's how they won it. With power.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) Paul Sullivan said the cubs are kicking the tires on Dye as a 4th OF/platoon with fukodome. Is fukodome one of the bigger busts in recent memory? I think Sullivan said he hit .259. Dye at Wrigley would be interesting to watch. Some hitters don't adjust to playing part time or DH. Just think Fukodome was close to being a Sox.

I've been out of the loop. Did Dye sign with anyone? Funny how the AL has the DH and few guys want to play that part on a team. I'm all for getting rid of the DH. I guess there are worse options than Thome as D.H. Maybe Kenny hasn't finished going after the over 40 has beens who might have that magical year.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) With the starting staff we have adding a bat like adrians to the team we already have give us a legit shot at making the world series for the next 2 or 3 years. . Plus you have to make your you have another bat to protect him so pitchers just can't put him on base all the time.

I ask, why would this interest the Angels?

QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) They are going to offer arbitration to Jenks, but my assumption is to spend money on a free agent (or taking on salary in a trade) would require them to free up salary, so I do think the White Sox trade Jenks for a few prospects or if there's a fit on a team that needs a closer in return for a Williams target. Personally, I want Jenks back and am fine if the rest of the off-season is spent quietly. He's not an elite clower, but he's pretty good, and I don't want to gamble on Matt Thornton next season. Given that our starting rotation should be a strength of the team, part of me believes that Williams doesn't want to overspend on the bullpen, given that he's expecting 6-7 innings on most days. I'd hate to see the Sox starters do their job, and then find out that we don't have a closer we can trust. I much rather prefer using Thornton in the 8th and Jenks to finsh games. Why would you trade Jenks for "prospects"? Closers are hard to replace. Period. What may be even more difficult is replacing the quality of setup work provided by Thornton.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) I read on espn about a trade possibilty Jenks to cubs for bradley with the cubs eating part of bradley's contract . You know that S in E.S.P.N stand for stupid.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) Levine was speculating that the payroll would be closer to 100M than 95. If so thats a real good thing, because a move of Jenks or Konerko could free up just enough salary that the Sox could make things pretty interesting. I would like to see them take a risk and go up to $120M. Give those starters some more confidence. Having a starting 4 like this at trying to be cheap at the same time is like Culter trying to work with the Bears O.

Danks and Floyd "highly unlikely" to be dealt

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) I wouldn't touch the rotation and I'd be hesitant to deal Hudson. I'd try to free up payroll as best as possible so that we can sign a few guys to short term deals and have a league average offense. If the team is playing great at the deadline, maybe swing for a big bat in the order or just hope that our younger player progress enough that they can fill in and eventually turn the league average offense into a better than league average one. JR just needs to stop being a cheap ass and this team needs to be sold to someone with the Steinbrenner mentality or invest in better scouting, development. I'm hoping "money is tight" is just a smoke screen. -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) None of these guys are sure-fire bets, and when a team like the Padres makes a bat like Gonzalez available - which is something that almost NEVER happens with a large or even mid-market team - then we should view it as a blessing from the baseball gods and do whatever we can to trade unproven players for him. Then again I wonder why the Padres would give up someone like that.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) Sounds like we won the last WS title we had with starting pitching and big boppers. This time, KW wants to go back to the Go Go White Sox with little offense, manufacturing runs, but great starting pitching. And at the same time penny pinch like a small market team. Somewhere you have to take a gamble with a bigger payroll. If it doesn't work then you can probably move some expensive pieces.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) I like the part where his cubs fan wife couldn't identify Paul Konerko during the playoff run in 2005. Shes a female cubs fan living in Lincoln park she probably didnt even know there was another team in the city. That's easy to understand when the "other team" doesn't have a legacy of losing.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 06:06 AM) Jenks will be offered arb. and stay. His trade value isn't that great. And his departure would leave the sox short in the pen. While he may get a raise, and is going to be making a lot, signing a FA would also be a big risk and expensive, w/ decent arms like Valverde and Rafael Soriano wanting a 2 or 3 yr deal. Trading for another proven bullpen arm to replace Bobby would cost a lot in terms of talent. The sox still need to add an arm for the bullpen, but if they had Booby gone it would leave 2 holes to fill. The sox want an improved Jenks [esp. getting into better shape] and made it pretty clear publicly where they stood about him. IMO, they are trying to light a fire under Bobby, by calling him out right after the season ended, to get him to be in better condition, so he may earn his high salary. I think he stays unless its a very, very good trade. That probably won't happen since no GM is naive to his weight. This is the most logical post I've read.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) If this trade had happened at the deadline back in July or not until January or February, this thread probably wouldn't be nearly as big. But, look back at the posts and you'll see that there was a lot of speculation of where Teahan would play, what the trade would mean for Beckham and Alexei, and what future moves will be made. So, yeah, it is actually a "small trade", but it opens a door a crack that could open wide in the coming months. I think it's purpose was that someone would actually accept Josh Fields.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Yeah I'm kinda hoping Reinsdorf wins a $120 million dollar powerball lottery and decides to use it all on payroll. I have hopes Reinsdorf will increase the payroll. You need something to compliment the stud pitching staff. I think a lot of teams will wait in signing FAs. The If the Yankees had wait a little longer they could have signed CC for less.

Someone enlighten me. How does this improve the Sox? To me it's just a trade to get rid of Josh Field. How is this Royal worth 2 or 1 1/2 players?
