QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) Which season has not involved a significant makeover of the roster? He'll surprise us. That's the only thing I'm confident about. Weren't you surprised this year with that April lineup? I don't see a significant makeover since he started doing that around the waiver deadline. The starting rotation and infield is probably set.

I think the off season will disappoint many fans. I don't see the Sox making any major trades since they don't have much to trade without it hurting them in other areas. I doubt Jenks will be traded. Closers are hard to come by and they do cost money. Trade M.B.? Nope. Why weaken one of the most solid staffs in baseball? Get rid of him and create ?s at the 4th, 5th spot. Just a repeat of 2009. Could Dye be back? That may depend how low of a deal he will take. I wonder if Kenny would say no to 1 yr. @ $5M? He might be an affordable D.H. They over spent on the last one. Maybe Kotsay will be the D.H. I would not be surprised if they don't sign Pods. He's never had two good back to back seasons. Amazing comeback. I doubt P.K. will be traded. I see a lot of fans consider trading players to free up some money. Well they went in budget mode last off season and where did it get them? Contreras and Colon were to replace Javy. Fields was to replace Crede/Uribe. The Yankees were laughing their ass off over the oh god please take Swisher deal. There was a reason why they were predicted to be 4th is because if they continued with that same group this team would really suck. Funny how the Twins have some of last year's Sox players and they might be in the post season. You have to spend some money if you want to be competitive. I don't ever see the Sox on the winning end of a bidding war. They'll sign a type B free agent in hopes they have a career year. At least there is a little more speed on the bases now. That will come handy when the team stops manufacturing homers. I hope they keep Pods because he's a good hitter. Quentin has yet to play a full season.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) 2010 LF Pods SS Beckham RF Quentin 1B Konerko DH ??? C AJ CF Rios 2B Ramirez 3B Viciedo How has Viciedo been doing in the minors? I heard at one time they don't think he can play 3rd but 1st. I can't see how ALexi going back to 2nd and now Beckham at SS would improve anything.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Even after a bad season I hate the last day of the baseball season. It means the arctic winter starts... six months of no White Sox. Next summer, my home will be a few blocks away from the Sox Spring Training Facility. Of course the down side is not getting to see many Sox season games on TV. Has anyone tried that MLB web streaming package? That's what I might have to opt for.

QUOTE (CSF @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Even though that 2nd half was beyond brutal, big thank you to Jermaine Dye for the 5 years he wore the Sox uni, and helping this squad to the promised land in '05. I wouldn't totally rule him out of being on the team next year. He might sign cheap to play DH. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) Only the Tigers can lose to a team who left about 50 men on base and can't score more than a run with the bases loaded and less than two outs. I guess the Tigers lineup are tops in strike outs.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) STFU Phil Rogers. Amen.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) Sigh. He is reading Soxtalk. Knowing Rogers he was probably thinking the Cecil was still playing.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Despite that inning right there, Pena scares me. Big. I don't look forward to him on the mound next year in the 7th or 8th Inning with the lead for sure Some fans have him penned as the closer for 2010. I still put him in the McDougal category.

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) It's official: Magglio Ordonez under contract for $18M in 2010 Detroit -- In his third at-bat Tuesday evening, Magglio Ordonez reached on an error by Royals third baseman Alex Gordon. Oh, yeah, and he also guaranteed himself $18 million next year. Batting in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers right fielder picked up his 1,080th plate appearance since the start of 2008 -- and that's the magic number that automatically triggers his hefty option for 2010. Ordonez signed with the Tigers ahead of the 2005 season for five years and $75 million guaranteed. And that deal paid dividends, for certain: Ordonez hit the walk-off homer that sent the Tigers to the World Series in 2006, then hit .363 to win a batting title in 2007. That vesting option, however, has been a source of great debate this season as Ordonez, 35, hasn't looked like the All-Star of old. Ordonez had an extremely rough time in the first half, batting just .260 before the break -- a slump that led manager Jim Leyland to announce in early July that Ordonez would only platoon with Clete Thomas, playing only when the Tigers were facing a left-hander. That situation didn't last, and that's Ordonez's doing. Entering Tuesday night's game, his average was up to .296 thanks to a hot stretch in which he batted .402 since the beginning of August. But there's actually a sobering reality to that .402 -- 34 of the 43 hits were singles. The power and run production simply haven't returned as the average has climbed. While he's up to .296, he has just seven home runs and 40 RBIs. The last time Ordonez had a completely healthy season in which he didn't hit at least 21 homers and 99 RBIs was 1998, his rookie season with the White Sox. The Tigers likely will be on Ordonez Watch next season, too. He's up to 457 plate appearances for this season and if he reaches 1,080 between this year and next, he'll automatically activate a $15 million deal for 2011. I bet Jim Hendry is jealous that he couldn't make such a ridiculous deal.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:44 PM) I wouldn't take Sanchez for our 5th starter spot. He's simply not good. He walks the world. I think that would be wasting Konerko. That's not as dumb as trading another starter. Didn't they just go thru that this season with Contreras, Colon, Richard, Garcia, as the 4,5th starters? How many teams have 4 solid starters without spending $$$$? I would not be surprised if there is very little change next year. I doubt it will be through trades. While the White Sox may be a cheap ass organization when it comes to spending money, I wish fans would realize there is no salary cap in baseball. "Let's trade so and so to free up some money". Yeah that's fine but you still have to replace them and maybe Dye is signed at $3M is a better value than spending $9M on Figgins. That's always been the White Sox thinking. They never sign the big free agents, they go for the mid tier guys and hope they put of their best career numbers for the Sox. That's what happened when they first signed Dye.

QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) I'm really looking forward to an offseason filled with hilarious trade proposals. It's already started.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:30 PM) Anyway yeah i know konerko is another white sox player we need to keep can you tell me why ? i can tell you why not First off do you think the other GMs would agree with you. If you can tell why not, don't you think those GMs see it the same way? Read Brian's post. There's where I see the big indifference.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) wouldnt you like to retired before your 40th birthday ? After reading your scenarios "retired" isn't the word I'm thinking of. And to answer your meaningless question the answer is NO.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) The funny part is that they thought 74 wins would finish last place in a 5 team division. That is the stupid part. I thought about making a thread title-Dumbass Chicago Journalists Hall of Fame-were we can post all of the stupid articles from the Cubune and Scum Times.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) why is everyone missing what i wrote ? Would you really like the truth?
-
QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) Mark's performance the last two months, plus his contract, means no one will take him for what you guys are considering. His trading value is waaay down. How so?
-
QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) i admit there rotation would be very good but in todays game a good bullpen and good hitting is needed to win . i mean the sox this year had more quility starts then any team in the american league and were under 500 so the rotation wasnt really the problem this year and with or without buehrle wont be the problem next year . Let's not forget leading the league in surrendering the most unearned runs.
-
QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) would free up some cash and bring in a guy with great stuff that could become a great lefty and would possibly allow us to trade another starter for a lefthanded power hitter . i like paulie especially his defense but were not going to resign him and better to move him this off season then at the deadline Don't give up your day job.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 09:19 PM) anyone else get a kick out of the Chicago Tribune commercials for their "awesome" sports sections showing their pre-seasons predictions of the Cubs winning 95 games (1st place) and the Sox winning 74 games. (Last place) They are much closer on the Sox prediction.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) Hell of a game thread. Sox throw a shutout and we can't even get 3 pages of talking. I guess they are too busy eating crow. Glad to see M.B. end the season string and turn some of the posters into complete dumbasses.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) Josh Fields has said that’d he be willing to play 3b, 1b, or the OF as long as it allowed him to play everyday. If I’m the White Sox I’m sticking him in LF for the next series, and assuming he doesn’t make an ass of himself, he might even raise some of his value. He still can't catch a baseball. -
Zambrano: Sox One of Three Teams He Would Go To

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) This. I can't believe anyone really wanting Bradley and Z on our team. The Sox are not even close to being that desperate. Sometimes I think the fans are.
