  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) I've not seen anyone at this point who should displace him because they offer similar or equal production. I fully understand the concept of cost savings, but you don't dump a player for $6 million if he's finally fulfilling some of his untapped potential because you are going to be stubborn about it. We've resisted the temptation to sell low on him for this long, so now he finally starts looking like the hitter you thought he would be, at the age of 27 no less, and you dump him for nothing because of $6 million? That is the epitome of being short-sighted. Again, obviously it depends on the return. If someone offers a legitimate piece for the future, a piece of need, then sure, go ahead and put your faith in Semien or whomever. But barring that, and I really do doubt you get that kind of offer, what is the risk in holding him? If he flames out again, you non-tender him next year and escape the $6 million price tag and let one of the kids take over. But if this is for real, and you trade him for some marginal prospect or reliever so you can make a futile run at a one-game playoff, and then he continues to hit like this for another team after you've endured all the growing pains of his development, well then you've really made a stupid move. Very well put (as usual)! I couldn't agree more!!
  2. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) Hawk laying on the BS pretty deep now. Oh, give him a break. He's the voice of the franchise and he's just trying to instill hope in a grander audience than just the likes of you in hopes of garnering interest in the ball club. God forbid he do the job he was hired to do. For chrissakes, the incessant namby-pamby whining about Hawk from a few of you is really getting old!
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 09:01 PM) Hawk wants to know who the hell it is that said Abreu could not play 1st very well. He cannot remember. Fair question as the original so-called "expert" reports about his defense have been nowhere near the reality of the situation. He's been just fine over there.
  4. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) Is Hawk gonna love Micah as much when he supplants Beckham? I would hope so!
  5. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) lets go conor, would love to see you drive the ball against a LH VOILA!!
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 08:20 PM) Sox 5-1 Hawk loving GB shout it loud. Can't you just enjoy the moment and lay off the negative stuff, just for once?
  7. The last three innings will be against their bullpen.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Looked safe from my seats. How about it tv people Out, but just barely
  9. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 06:46 PM) Stone blaming Alexei, seemed on Alejandro to me no? If the outfielder calls it, the infielder is supposed to yield.
  10. 3 1/3 innings of fine relief from the bullpen! Downs Petricka Putnam Bella
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Deal! Hey, I want the Sox to get hot more than anything. But do it now, not when they're 10 under. Point well taken!!
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) f*** it. It was a fun 60 games. Let's start losing in bunches, make some trades, and get another single digit pick next June. No thanks! Let's keep winning!!
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Sierra on defense does nothing for me. I am tired of the excuses from Hawk and Stone every error. So he didn't lose it in the lights?
  14. The key to the success of this game thus far has been the fine managing of the pitching staff by our manager. He was able to judge that he could get as much as he could out of Noesi as he did thru 5 2/3 before having to yield to Downs against Avila. That judgement enabled him to resist a knee jerk reaction to reach for Petricka or Putnam in the sixth, when their optimal use was in the 7th and 8th, respectively, as we've seen tonight. Just superb managing on Robin's part. Well done!
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) It must have been absolute hell for Pirates fans watching him destroy AAA just waiting for him to get the call. Yeah, but now they'll get an extra year of his services before he hits free agency.
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) Gregory Polanco finally being called up. That Pirates OF is very nice. Agreed, and they'll be together for a few years, so they'll be fun to watch.
  17. The art of bunting for a base hit. You gotta love it. Looks so awesome when it's done right!
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 07:51 PM) Can we please not ruin a great night of Sox baseball with this trade Beckham and trade Ramirez and 3/4 of the team stuff We are in this to win. +1
  19. Beckham a .300 hitter now, thank you very little!
  20. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) Martinez hit a deep fly ball, Eaton gets a good jump and grabs it just before slamming into the wall. Hawk narrates it as if it is Willie Mays, which adds a bit to the melodrama of the moment (it was a good catch though) The quality of the narration was on par with the quality of the play. Both were quite good.
  21. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Beckham cancels the post game show but Kershaw still pitching a shutout. Nope.
  22. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) Clayton Kershaw will pitch his first career no-hitter tonight. Nope.
  23. Vin Scully is 86 years old, and still doing a magnificent job of broadcasting a Major League Baseball game all by himself. I mean, simply superb. It's a pleasure and privilege to listen to him. He's in a league of his own!
