That curveball is en fuego so far this evening!
-
Was that a BIG HIT in a KEY SITUATION we just witnessed?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) Same s*** different important game. Adam Dunn needs to be benched until 2012. 100% agree with you on this one at this point in the season. I think continuing to play him runs entirely contrary to the "All In" mantra, which they continue to promote around here.
-
The Harry Caray who used to broadcast White Sox games would have a field day with the likes of Rios and Dunn right now.
-
Dunn's struggles almost seem unprecedented. I mean, there are bad seasons, and then there's.....this.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) Why not? Worst that can happen is a solo HR. And maybe peavy can pull off the quality start. +1

Make sure the line drive goes through before......

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) Haha, Hawk advocating playing for one run when you're facing a great offense. Yankee announcers just questioning the wisdom of sacrificing in front of the #9 hitter, down three runs.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) @SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman word is, #astros dont love #phillies prospects (maybe not even brown). this is becoming real soap opera. #youngandrestless We'll take them Philly, come here! Yes, apparently the 'Stros would rather trade Pence to Atlanta and get their hands on some of that minor league pitching talent that they have. The road block on everything at this moment appears to be Atlanta's reluctance to part with those pitching prospects. And that's discouraging, because if Houston cannot convince them to include those players in a package for Pence, it's going to be even more difficult for KW to convince the Braves to part with them for Quentin. Meanwhile, Philadelphia appears to remain a lot more liberal in terms of what they are willing to deal.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) Yep, and there's no better time to do it than now. As we've been discussing, you couldn't ask for a better market that what currently exists for guys we could trade for value in return (Quentin/Thornton especially). It appears so. Makes me think about the scenario from four years ago, back in '07, when KW was trying to build up a market for both Buehrle and Dye. For whatever reason, it just never manifested itself. That was back when Dye was still a upper echelon offensive force, and Mark was four years younger than he is today. But Kenny couldn't extract the kind of prospect package he was looking for, or anything remotely resembling the kinds we've been talking about here the past couple of days, so he withdrew from the marketplace. Luckily at the moment, things seem to be a little different. Let's hope we're able to capitalize!

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) KW is flipping this roster trying to make it more flexible financially in the coming years. It's not hard to understand. If he trades anyone from our core roster, it will be at a position where we have a replacement (ie: Viciedo for Quentin, Ohman/Sale for Thornton). It's why you don't see him trying to trade AJP or Alexei right now. Retooling on the fly!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) 3 out 2 in the loss column after taking 4 of 5 from the teams in front of you is not the time to dismantle. As poorly as the Sox have played, it would be way worse than the White Flag Trade. Not. Even. Close. I think the Sox add a little something before the deadline. Its time to start winning. Well, all of this Quentin talk makes it seem like at least some form of "subtracting" is imminent. And so if that does happen, where does the "add" part of the equation come in, at least the part that assists us in the 2011 campaign. The names mentioned in each of the Quentin trade rumors seem to be earmarked as contributors to 2012 and beyond. A-Ram, for better or for worse, at least has been the only name really bandied about as a possible significant addition for this year's race (and even that, his name hasn't garnered any real speculation by the media). I wonder who the possible additions might or could be.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) U beat me to it.... Have viciedo in right and aram at 3rd I haven't been a big fan of Aramis in recent years, but this year he's been on his game, so as long as the rental cost wasn't too extravagant, he could be the perfect addition to pick up any offensive slack lost in a Quentin trade, while also upgrading a position we happen to be deficient at (offensively speaking).
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Interesting as this again contradicts all other reports. If they're looking to ADD payroll ( which has not yet been said by ANYONE else ) they're not going to dump Q. Is it out of the realm of possibility that Quentin is traded, yet someone like, say, A-Ram is acquired?
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) Erm. That's the direct opposite of what others have been saying. Yes, but it's the July trade deadline, the Sox are only 3 games out, and this is KW we are talking about. Nothing would surprise me at this point!
-
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) I'm thinking all of this chatter is just KW trying to drum up demand. KW is trying to play teams off of each other in the media to see if some GM is dumb enough to give up their top prospect for Quentin. I doubt Q is traded. That's the beauty of where KW is at the moment. He does NOT have to trade Quentin. If we all wake up on Monday morning and Q is still our starting right fielder, well, that is far from being a bad situation for us. He'll still be more than welcome in our line-up. And that's KW's ultimate leverage with his suitors. We are not terribly motivated to move him, and so to do so, those teams interested in Q's services will really have to make it worth KW's while. Not a bad place for our GM to be!

I feel like I've wandered into some alternate universe. It's one where the White Sox are but a mere three games out of 1st in a division there for the taking, but instead of Kenny Williams looking to make some splashy additions to the team like he usually does at this time of year, he's entertaining subtracting one of our best players, and perhaps even an all-out firesale. Aye caromba!
-
QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) @jaysonst Jayson Stark Other teams now say #WhiteSox would "absolutely" move Quentin in right deal - but "not bound & determined to move him." More in Daily Rumble Ya gotta love the posturing!
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) I wouldn't mind being the beneficiary of that type of behavior, one team driving up the price to hurt the ohter. And then let's not forget about the other team that is purportedly interested if, in fact, Carlos is made available - the Red Sox. They, too, can be rather influential in driving up the price.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) Nope, just tired of all the overzealous rage around these boards when we dont call up, or trade for a f***ing PROSPECT. some of the people around here, I think their worlds would come crumbling down around them if Viciedo came up and ended up no better than Juan Uribe, without the defense I love prospects, but I love proven major leaguers a hell of a lot more. But you can continue thinking I'm only here to dismiss our minor leaguers as nobodies with no future Please keep missing the point I'm making, because that's the only way you can continue with these ridiculous f***ing responses to my posts Now why on earth would I think you were here to do just that!

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) Dude, De Aza had a f***ing .876 OPS in AAA, Josh Fields was a AAA stud. 1. SOME, BUT NOT ALL (OBVIOUSLY) Prospects bust. That's why they're called prospects, and not major leaguers. 2. I never said Viciedo will bust. I said he could bust. Next First of all, FIXED. "Next" would hopefully result in you cease and desisting on constantly being so negative around here. Geesh! Viciedo and De Aza appear to be living up to their potential by lighting it up there down in Charlotte this year, and ALL you can talk about is the possibility of each of them being a bust up here at the Major League level. Not the probability of either of them bringing forward their progress - nooooo, you would never think to talk about that - but simply the possibility of them "busting" out. Thanks so much for the shot of positive thought there, as usual. Glass is always 1/4 full with you, isn't it! Lol! (I would be remiss if I didn't add that signature and gratuitous phrase of yours!)
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) Because he had a productive 100 AB doesn't really mean anything. The league won't even get to attempt to make legitimate adjustments to you with that small of a sample size He could end up busting, just like Beckham has (yeah, I went there) So all of this continual progress by Viciedo ever since we signed him, along with the fact that he is absolutely dominating AAA ball this year, and you are talking about "busting"? What is it with you sometimes!!

I'm excited to see what De Aza can do, now given this opportunity. Based on his skill set, if he plays well, he could be the heir apparent to the lead-off man role for next year. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) I think I will wait until we know the actual trade details for sure, like who the minor leaguer(s) is/are, before jumping off a cliff. Also, let's see what else KW is doing here. But if the trade is in a vacuum, and the prospect is worth nothing... then yeah, that's garbage. "And on the other hand, maybe this is the most opportune time to turn over the entire roster and get some young, exciting players in here and go that route." With all of that said, I don't see how he can make this deal without this so-called "prospect" being at least somewhat "exciting", but we shall see!
