  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) absolutely I ask this question not knowing the answer, but when was the last time Thornton appeared in the 6th inning?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) Get Thornton up to face Mauer Do you really want Thornton facing Mauer in the 6th?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) Time for a CQ homer And now just a solo blast.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Is it normal for a left fielder to throw the ball to a center fielder after the final out so the CFer can throw the ball back into the infield? Or is Pierre's arm just that weak? Lol - be nice!
  5. That was....weird. But I'll take it!
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) Especially since their bullpen has been faltering lately. That may just come into play tonight!
  7. A one-run game now and we're only through three and a half innings of this one - AND we're already into their bullpen. This one is long from over!
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Bunting with Pierre is always okay. You expect he moves the runner over, but he also has a chance to get a hit. Mauer made a great play, could have easily been a hit. Thank you. That.
  9. For a brief second I saw my life pass before my eyes when I thought Alex and Carlos were going to have the mother of all collisions on that play. Thank goodness they didn't!
  10. Don't forget - the Hawk is OUR announcer. He's not some guy hired to placate the rest of the world's taste in baseball announcing. He's here to describe Chicago White Sox baseball and cater to OUR fanbase, and nothing else. So for that unfortunate portion of the population on our planet who do not count themselves as fans of the White Sox and who then don't care for Hawk, I say "Who the heck cares! I certainly don't!". I can't and don't expect non-White Sox fans to enjoy Hawk's enthusiasm and what not for the Sox, but at the same time, as a big-time fan of the White Sox, I most certainly do. So any opinions coming Hawk and/or Stone Pony's way from outside of White Sox World is taken very much with the proverbial grain of salt, at least with me. And more often not, such opinions are just dismissed out of hand.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) What the hell is wrong with Keith Law? This morning on the Score they were talking about how the White Sox recent surge to the top of the AL Central was all smoke and mirrors and how the Sox took advantage of a weak schedule and they weren't really a good team. Any such comment or statement like this one is just ridiculous and should be dismissed outright. "Good teams" beat the bad teams - that's how it works. That's why some teams are good while others are not. And no doubt, we beat a lot of bad teams this past month, but that's because we are - surprise! surprise! - good! And to prove the point further, really good teams also beat other good teams, and we just got done giving some good teams like Atlanta, Texas, and Los Angeles an a*s whoopin' they won't soon forget. I might also add we are in first place after 87 games, and last I looked, first place is where you usually find your good teams. So Keith Law, go peddle your illogical drivel somewhere else, you moron. Enough, already!
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) I live in Las Vegas, and so I have the Extra Innings package, and so I get to watch a lot of different broadcast teams. Sometimes I want to watch our broadcast; sometimes I can't; sometimes I don't want to. But I will say this much...I would rather listen to the guys that openly root for their team than the ones that sort of do, but try and hide it in the interests of professionalism. Because when that big moment does come for their team, they are usually unable to hide it, turn into this rampant homer, and that's when it gets really, really annoying. I live in NYC and have Extra Innings, too, which means, as you state, we get to sample many if not all of the other broadcast teams. And having the opportunity to do so makes me appreciate the Hawk and Stone Pony so much more than I might otherwise. They actually "entertain" you during the game. I mean, if I had a dime for every one of these cookie cutter play-by-play guys out there with their rehearsed, professional voices just blandly calling the game - well, let's just say, I'd have a whole stack of dimes lying around. Seriously, you go from one's team booth to the next, and one by one it's essentially the same 'ol thing going on. From that Josh Lewin guy in Texas, to Brennaman in Arizona, Staats down in Tampa, the guy doing play-by-play for the Brewers, to that dreadful KC team, so on and so forth - they are all pretty much the same. Snoozeville! Meanwhile, we have two very knowledgeable and personable guys describing in a terrific back-and-forth sort of way, the various nuances of baseball for two or three hours each night, peppered occasionally by a Hawkism here and there. Now that's what I call entertaining, and I, for one, absolutely and fully enjoy each and every telecast. I wouldn't change a thing or trade this tandem for any of the others out there! Now for what I really think....... : )
  13. Put this one outta reach, Andruw, with #400 right here, Buddy! = D
  14. YESSSS! Our All-Star does, indeed, pitch over it!
  15. Putz will eventually be as instrumental to any success this team achieves almost as much as anyone else on this roster. He really has been that good and reliable in the often underestimated role of long relief.
  16. As so for my partner, Steve Stone, our Hall-of-Fame Producer Jim Angio, up here in the booth, the Mayor, "Mean Joe Grube", this is the Hawk. So long, Everybody!
  17. Ohhhh....he just missed that one!
  18. Pat Hughes and Ron Santo are unaware of Jenks' unavailability. They're stupified as to why they don't see him warming up in the bullpen.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 08:30 PM) He has to be an all star. THAT!!!!!
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) How about we get 3 or 4 against their bullpen here. I'm down for that!
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Sadly...now I kinda want to. I do, too, but the game is too close to be handing them over free baserunners.
  22. You know, about a month ago right now, I remember Hawk Harrelson talking a few times about the 1983 team and reminding people how that team started out 16-24, but then went onto bigger and better things, ultimately winning 99 games that season. My recollection of that season is that things started turning around in June once that awesome starting rotation back then starting putting it together. They started pitching the way everyone knew they could pitch and didn't stop for the rest of the season. Seems to me we might be in a similar situation with the '10 squad. Oh, the offense as currently configured can't hold a candle to the '83 team, but from a pitching standpoint, it does seem eerily similar. Just an interesting context to consider as we try and figure out what lies ahead for this year's White Sox!
  23. Seriously, my "Hanes Comfort Zone" means Omar at 3rd! YESSSS!!!
