Frank's command of the zone was so good, that manager Jeff Torborg actually wanted him to break camp with the team right from the beginning, based on what he saw of Thomas in spring training. It was then-GM Larry Himes who put the breaks on that and kept him in the minors until August of that year. But given the way Frank hit the ground running that August, it's fair to say that maybe Torborg was correct, and he could have had Thomas for the entire year of that 1990 campaign. Makes you wonder a little if a full year of Frank would have been enough for that surprise 1990 White Sox team to overtake Oakland that year.

"Screaming" at these particular remodelers is probably appropriate at this point. There haven't been many nice "kitchens" resulting from their handiwork these past 18 years that they've been trying their hand at this.
-
We're actually up to 38 now, with Year 38 all set to look like 32 of it's 37 predecessors, meaning NO PLAYOFF APPEARANCE FOR THE WHITE SOX.

Let’s be clear about the fans and “managements’” rebuild. The fans “support” this do-over because they really don’t have any other choice. The so-called “rebuild” is the one and only lifeline being thrown to the fan base as a way out of the abysmal run of baseball that has unfolded on the South Side the past decade or so. It’s the only blade of hope that the fans can cling to in hopes of breaking the 4th longest playoff drought in baseball. It’s the only option at this point to change the summer conversation around Guaranteed Rate Field from, yet again, wondering who the team will choose with their high pick in the following summer’s draft to the division race in which the team is currently in. That’s why the fans “support the rebuild”. It’s all we have at this very low point in the team’s history.

“Lol...” Lol, indeed. ”you can hate or be skeptical of the front office all you want” Oh, and we are, and justifiably so. Williams and Hahn have been 1-2 and 2-1 at the top of the Sox’ management group since 2001. Yet just two postseason appearances in 18 years under their leadership? Just one since the WS appearance 13 years ago (and a very brief one at that!)? Not one appearance in almost a decade now? Oh, you better believe skepticism is out and about as it relates to how this fan base views this front office. All knowledgeable fans are beyond skeptical at this point with the level of incompetence exhibited by this front office. “but people need to stop being surprised this team sucks” That’s the issue - we ARE NOT surprised! We are use to them sucking! They’ve sucked for longer than we care to remember. The key is we WANT them to STOP sucking. To date, they have not stopped that from happening. “and trying to use that as further evidence that the front office is incompetent” We are all open to evidence to the contrary. “The team is supposed to suck right now by design” As opposed to the recent teams who performed at the same level as this one which were “designed” to be “All In” and/or “Going for it”. You never can tell the difference with the teams this management group fields each year. “ignoring that just makes some of you look like total fools” Attendance, TV & radio ratings of recent years suggest the “total fools” are those folks who ignore how the facts of this team’s recent (and long term) results have impacted the current and potential fan base.

What you don’t grasp is that “we”, the fans, aren’t the ones going on this “full fledge rebuild”. This so-called “rebuild” is solely on ownership and management, reflecting their abject failure to produce anything remotely resembling competitive baseball in a very long time. This expectation that fans should somehow accept and be patient with a front office that has been so poor at their job that they’ve effectively had to start from scratch with a rebuild is utter nonsense. As long as we’re still subject to and witnessing not only the lack of winning baseball but the awful variety of the past decade, our voices of discontent should be loud and clear until they get it right and put forth a product on the field worthy of our support.
-
Given this front office is in their 18th year together now with only two playoff appearances to their credit, including just one in the 13 years since the WS year, yes, very little in the credibility column earned for this management team. But I think we all realize we are just stuck with them while the current ownership is in place, so all the fan base is left with is hope. Hope that somehow, some way, this plan of their’s will bear fruit and finally reverse the streak of horrific baseball we’ve witnessed now on the South Side for way too many years now.

Wimpy’s last season. Sigh......end of the Hawk/Wimpy pairing this year, as well. ? -
Not a longer window than that? We'll have Moncada, Giolito, Lopez, Hansen, Robert, Cease, et al together starting from 2019 and going through at least 2023, and probably beyond a few years after that. If this rebuild is for real, I'm expecting quite a bit of championship competitiveness right through the mid '20s.

The General Manager has been very clear on this. He said the player's play will dictate when he should be brought up. Thus, if he's playing at or near the Big Frank minor league clip of 1990, we'll see him sooner rather than later. If not, he'll stay down until his development is at a point where a call-up is merited.

White Sox Prospects of the Month, April 2018
Thad Bosley replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Solid write-up and very enjoyable read. Thank you! -
Like, one playoff appearance in their last 13 seasons since their last WS appearance, like the Sox’ record?
-
Having “trust” and “complete confidence” in a management team with the horrible record this one has is foolish and unwarranted. What Sox fans can have is “hope” they finally get this thing right.
-
...which is on the heels of a stretch of five absolutely brutal seasons from 2013-2016, which is on the heels of the team making just one trip to the playoffs (and a very brief one at that) since the team walked off the field in Houston as WS champs back in ‘05. Plenty for our beleaguered fan base to be frustrated about at this point in time.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:10 AM) Its funny to see this post in the 21st century, what with pretty much every single game of baseball being on cable, and WGN being dead as a regional sportscasting network. While this might have been right in 1988, in 2018 it is laughable. It turns out Jerry and Eddie were actually just ahead of their time. Hell the Cubs are about to form their own cable network by themselves. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, that’s what good, ‘ol “Jerry and Eddie” were guilty of back in the golden age of “SportsVision” - being “ahead of their time”. On the contrary - they were guilty of being complete dunderheads in understanding the marketplace in front of them in those days with 150 free games of the Cubs in the same town (hosted by Harry Caray, no less!).
