  1. I loved Hawk making this comparison of the Sox to the Royals, but because of the broader and more salient point he was trying to make. It doesn't really matter where he came down on which position player was better than which. That's a matter of opinion, and Hawk is entitled to his as is anyone else. I'm sure if we polled everyone at Soxtalk and had them compare the Sox to the Royals, a whole variety of different opinions would result. Hawk's real point, which was quite good, IMO, was that the key to the Royals success is due primarily to how well they execute and do the little things, the fundamentals. In other words, in his view, the Sox on paper were a better team, talent wise, but in actuality, what separates the two teams is how far better the Royals are at running the bases, hitting the cutoff man, etc. And when you watch the two teams play, particularly when its head-to-head, you can easily tell he's "dad gum right"!
  2. QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) Hawk was so close to cursing That's why I still love him as an announcer. No cookie cutter broadcaster reaction. Real time, real fan reaction. Much prefer that, any day of the week.
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 10:00 PM) That was almost one of the most impressive plays Ive ever seen Agreed. I think if Alexei had somehow been able to barehand it he might have gotten the out. Super effort by both he and Becks, though.
  4. QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) I said nothing negative about the product on the field. They're not going to take the suggestions of a random fan seriously, and they shouldn't. I'm sure they have people who read message boards - they've heard it all already anyway. Instead I targeted Hawk, because the announcing booths are something that directly affects fan engagement, an area where the voice of the fan is perhaps the most important. He's gotta go. He gets worse every single day. I guess it's a matter of opinion. I love Hawk and continue to appreciate his very unique style of broadcasting to this very day. His mood usually reflects my own, which reflects what's going on down on the field, and I've always appreciated that about him. For me, his passion is contagious. And I also happen to think he and Stone work better together than many give them credit for, and in particular, they do get on a good role periodically where both of their individual wealth of knowledge come together very nicely to explain the game in a way that I find very interesting. He's not everyone's cup of coffee these days, but then on the other hand, he is still beloved by many, too.
  5. If LaRoche is in any way, shape or form going to be part of the equation next year, he simply can never face a lefty. Ever!
  6. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) I didn't hear the three different plays. He's young and it will be corrected. Stone talked about it earlier in the game.
  7. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) What happened with Iglesias? Apparently he didn't hustle on three different plays, and the catcher McCann and outfielder Gose called him out on it in the dugout.
  8. I do hope the Sox resign Stoney after this season. He's infinitely much better than the inexperienced ex-Sox they've run through the booth in his absence.
  9. I threw down with "crestfallen".
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) The thing that we don't know... did Hahn put this club together in Kenny's vision for the club? Meaning, does Hahn think like Kenny? Or is he just doing what his boss wants him to do within the parameters of Kenny's approach? I'm a Hahn fan as a person and a communicator. If you promised me Kenny, Buddy, and the entire coaching staff gone, I wouldn't be against Hahn hiring his own manager and giving him three years to get a better path for this team. But, that won't happen. Which is a failure of Jerry Reinsdorf and why this organization desperately needs new ownership. He sets the tone at the top, and it is he who has put this dysfunctional management team in place. And the fact that no matter the continuing inability of this team to bring sustainable success to the organization and seemingly no accountability or repercussions for doing so, continues to point out that Reinsdorf is the real problem here. His failure has permeated the entire organization.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) Pods 0-3 maybe he will not be back Lol - Hawk, the only broadcaster in history to perfect the art of invoking the word "sphincter" into a broadcast!!
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) A true rebuild will never happen when JR is in charge. The fans are too fickle and he is still mocked to this day for the last full rebuild he attempted (White Flag trades). Let's be very clear here. JR was not "mocked" because he attempted a "full rebuild". White Sox fans are just as fine with a rebuild as any fan base. In 1997, the year of the White Flag trade, the Sox were only a few years removed from a full rebuild that netted the Sox the likes of Thomas, Ventura, McDowell, Bere, Alvarez, Fernandez, Johnson, Melido Perez - just to name a few. The fan base lived through that rebuild in the late '80s, even as it was going on concurrently with the very real fan base-killing drama of the wonderful JR threatening to move the team to Tampa. If the fan base could survive all that was going on during that time period, they could easily handle a rebuild now. No, what JR was "mocked" for back then, and ever so rightly so, was for trading Alvarez, Hernandez, and Darwin away at the deadline when the Sox were in 2nd place and "only" 3 1/2 games out of first place. It was a travesty then and criticized not only by a fan base excited about a potential trip to the postseason - a rarity in the JR ownership years - but across baseball circles as well.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 11:19 PM) Been trying to think of a way to sum up the Sox organization the last 10 years. I can't do it in one sentence but these come close: "One step forward...two steps back." "Loyalty without Accountability" "When in doubt, blame the fans" It's a shame that another summer has been flushed right down the toilet. When all is said and done it'll be six of the last nine of them. Beyond sad now. Mark 50 of the last 55, to be exact. But hey! Don't be bitter now, as some others would wag their sanctimonious fingers at you and admonish you for being. Don't be bitter! It's just baseball, dontcha know. A win and a loss - bah! What's the difference! If you don't like the results, why, just go and get another hobby, they would tell you. How dare you expect more! And if it's blame you are seeking to assign, well then, look no further than the mirror, Fair Fan. It is all your fault! You and all of your excuses for not coming out to the ballpark - the Sox' lack of success is all yer fault! Why... Lol - I can't even keep that charade up of that ridiculous mindset, it's so absurd. But yes, to the poster's credit for pointing out, yet another wasted summer. When will it all change for the better? Time will tell, I reckon. A new management team seems like it would be a good start, but then there's still the issue of the "hands-on" owner who would still ultimately call the shots. He's overruled even the current management team over the years over strategic decisions, and look how well that's worked out for us. Oy! Looks like we are in for more of the same as long as the status quo remains in place!
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) Why is that a putz move? Seems to me you should be applauding having nothing to do with a guy who was groome dby a guy who was the GM through 15 playoff less seasons leaving his minor league system in shambles. You so blind with the JR hate, even if he does what you want you moan about it. So we groomed him at a young age for a role we never actually gave him, fired him, and then watched him evolve into one of the most respected baseball execs around. Right around the exact same time we were letting LaRussa and Leyland go to also move onto bigger and better things. Much bigger and better things, to be exact. Certainly not blind to the lack of wisdom on the part of the current owner that led to these very poor personnel decisions.
  15. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Reinsdorf is such a putz. 35 years of putz-tastic ownership from the guy!
  16. Whatever happened to "tie at home win on the road"? Absolutely no reason to send him on a ball that didn't get very deep into the outfield with the centerfielder racing in and with all the momentum in his favor.
  17. You get the feeling Sanchez is very popular with his teammates.
  18. There ya go, Hawkeroo! Some Baseball 101 for ya. A well timed wild pitch, just when we needed it!!
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) Winning is nice, but I don't need winning to get enjoyment out of the White Sox... unlike some. Got it. Now at least we know where your argument starts and ends. 2015 = 2009 = 2006 = 2003 = 2001 = 1997 = 1992 = 1987 = 1984 = 1980 = 1976...so on and so forth. The team's results clearly don't matter to you, because you enjoy the White Sox no matter how they do. Alright, that's good for you, I guess, if winning is just something "nice" for you. Some by-product that if it happens, it happens, if it doesn't, oh well, it doesn't. Fine, I respect that. Just be respectful of those - and there are many of us, btw - who aim for something a little bit more than that.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) Reading the responses here, and all of your other responses, nothing is ever enjoyed. It is all about the 50 years they lost. If that isn't bitter, I don't know what is. You have made it clear you get nothing out of a year that doesn't involve the playoffs, otherwise it wouldn't be post after post about 5 in 55. Even with a clear chance to tell me you aren't bitter, you spend the whole time talking about all of the things you are bitter about. That is just such a waste. Find something you enjoy. I enjoy winning. Don't you? Certainly beats being "bitter" about some made-up garbage about an alleged "excuse laden" fan base that you cannot back up with anything resembling facts. Just YOUR bitter construed conjecture. Talk about a waste.
