Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
pktmotion replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) Counting on Andruw Jones to be your everyday or close to everyday RF is irresponsible on so many levels. I agree, but don't you think that's a deciding factor if they move Quentin? I don't think they'd want to make a supplemental trade to fill RF. -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Okay, looking back, Getz's numbers were worse than I recalled. But if Morel hits .265/.330/.410 is that fine? I'm okay with it. With that glove @ 3B, I'd be ecstatic with those numbers.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) I'd be down with a young, defending outfielder who still has something to prove and a veteran reliever of either handedness, plus a 'spect ...Scott Podsednik, Luis Vizcaino, and Travis Hinton. oh wait. Carlos QUENTIN joking aside I think Quentin stays. You don't move what could be an integral part of a potent lineup for bullpen help. But, I guess it's all predicated on how well they like Andruw Jones in RF. -

Wait it out for bullpen... like all things in this offseason, bullpen FA has had early stages of ridiculous contracts *cough Benoit, but now you're starting to see the market mellow out a bit. And most of the big bullpen FAs havent even signed yet; Soriano, Fuentes, Balfour, etc. There's plenty of help left out there. LH: Byrdak, Tankersly, Beimel, Mahay. RH: Okajima Delcarmen Once these teams sober up financially, the market will dry up and you're bound to find a bargain or two. -
Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years

Ehh.... Still like our chances with Rios-Dunn-Konerko-Quentin "its gonna be real Hollywood up there" - Joakim Noah talking about the Miami Heat Boston Red Sox -

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:46 PM) Crawford in LF in Fenway....what a hilarious/scary concept. And not to far off is Youk at 3B Well it was a good couple of days but its back to being under-appreciated and floating under the radar. -
Maybe this is why the Brewers traded Lawrie.....

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Ha, gotta a guy with Eminem lyrics tattooed on his shoulder. Its quite a paradox ... considering how big of a fail that tattoo is. -
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) If Pena was plan B or C then KW isn't going to be very happy. I'm guessing he was Plan Z.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) So, Reinsdorf has now stepped into the negotiations to try and get a deal done. This thing is JR vs PK and KW is ready to move on... Exactly... on one hand you have the romantic (Reinsdorf) and on the other hand you have the pragmatist (Kenny). I've never been much for theater. KW just sign Derrek Lee and let's move on to the bullpen.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) Does that mean he has, or has not been linked to Kenny over the past few years? Sorry, I must be slow at this. Yes it was almost two years ago, Michael Young had requested a trade because the Rangers moved him to 3B. I believe that was before he was signed to that ludicrous extension. It'd be a salary dump now and I wouldn't bet the Sox are interested anymore.

...granted 62 AB's is not nearly an adequate sample size. but his .612 OPS last year isn't gonna cut it for a power position like RF and for a team trying to compete. Especially after their top FA signed with a team in their division. They're not paying Halladay/Oswalt $15 MM+/year to see the Braves win the NL East. It wouldn't surprise me if they looked for a power RF stopgap and kept Brown in AAA for a couple more years.

I think Mike Rizzo has firmly cemented his position as most hated GM in all of the league. Wonder if Philly tries to come hard at a Quentin deal now?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) SI_JonHeyman Konerko scheduled to meet with #chisox chairman reinsdorf tomorrow. Once they hug, thatll be a deal. Very close. Should be $13 mil per. Very interested to see how many years they include: if it's anywhere more than 2 years, we might see Viciedo traded.

QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) Quentin and Viciedo for BJ Upton I like that trade. My only concern is how Upton is progressively striking out more every season and if we have the right personnel (Walker) to correct this. He's got great speed, solid defense, still young, its just those strikeouts that are killing his average. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) I doubt it. Escobar is good player, but his upside is still pretty low like a Neifi Perez-type. Escobar isn't a guy who would fetch you much as trade bait. You'd have to build around Viciedo most likely. Yea, I was more or less trying to illustrate how much value Alexei has to our team and how there's absolutely no chance he gets traded. I suggested a Quentin for Bailey and Herrera trade in another thread. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) The guy I'd love to see them make another run at is Homer Bailey. The Reds are looking for a SS, I'd have no problem dealing Ramirez for him especially if they're sold on Escobar for 2012 and beyond. A top 3 of Jackson, Danks, and Bailey would be nice and would give them flexibility to deal Floyd if they get a good offer. I like Homer Bailey too, but Alexei is more valuable. You could probably build a package around Escobar and get the deal done. (considering his stellar AFL numbers). -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) I'm telling you it would not surprise me one bit if Kenny landed either Curtis Granderson or Matt Kemp. I agree. Edwin Jackson and Tyler Kuhn for Matt Kemp. Carlos Quentin for Homer Bailey and Daniel Ray Herrera -
Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
pktmotion replied to Leonard Washington's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Real @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) I keep having this feeling that TCQ will be traded to Oakland Quentin for Michael Taylor and Brad Kilby? I still think the best route is to use *Jackson to target a CF/RF. And then use Quentin to target a young (#4-5) SP. *were not re-signing him while his agent is still Scott Boras. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) I'd have to think Hudson, Viciedo, and Flowers would have been a good deal compared to this, especially after Hudson took off in the NL West. Or Beckham could've easily trumped any trade proposal by BOS, even if they'd included Ellsbury or Bard. It seems to me that Gonz was always BOS bound. And it was just a matter of which prospects Hoyer liked best. Kind of a head scratching move on Hoyer's end to s*** where you eat.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Are these guys similar to what we gave up for Peavy? Meaning, absolute garbage? If that's the case, then poor San Diego- having nothing to show for AGon or Peavy but Clayton Richard and his awful, awful splits. I know it's too early to tell, but what are the ceilings on some of these guys? Rizzo, IMO, is probably the best piece they got. He's a 1B prospect that has had an .800+ OPS in his three minor league years. But one could argue that need is filled since they already have a 1B power prospect in Kyle Banks. Kelly has three pitches but is still very raw and coming off a year where his ERA was over 5. (side note: on how overhyped BOS/NYY prospects are; he's supposed to be the Red Sox top prospect?) Fuentes is way too young to judge and PTBNL is probably going to be nobody significant either. too quote "The League" this is definitely trade rape.

I was thinking about this the other day and it probably won't happen because LA is loaded with pitching. But what about a Jackson for Kemp swap. They both are in contract years, money owed is $8.35(Jackson) and $6.95(Kemp). Maybe include $1-$2 Mil to make it a wash or a low-level OF prospect like Tyler Kuhn. ...Quentin could then be used to get a young #4-5 starter. Someone mentioned the Reds, which would make an interesting trade partner. -
QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) Early reports are Kelly, Rizzo, and Fuentes. Pretty underwhelming package. No kidding. I thought Bard or Ellsbury would certainly be going to SD.
-
Chacin would be awesome, but he's so revered by the Rockies that the request on their end would be laughably unreasonable. It's definitely going to be interesting to see what the Sox do now.

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) You don't think that'd be a bit too much for Bailey? ...it may be a little much and definitely a gamble considering Quentin's potential and Bailey's injuries, but it'll take a bit to get a team to entertain the idea of letting go of their young SP. Especially one who was a high draft pick and who'll be cheap for a while. Maybe Quentin alone gets it done, but when it comes to high ceiling pitching prospects; trades don't always have to look great on face value.
