http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/the-...s-cespedes.html •• "We are aware of the [spring Training] dates," said agent Adam Katz to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter links). "We expect him to be in camp with one of the clubs." Katz also called the market for Cespedes "meaningful and aggressive." • The Marlins, Cubs, White Sox, Orioles, and Tigers are five of the six clubs that have been in serious talks with Cespedes, reports ESPN's Jim Bowden (Twitter links). He is expected to travel to the United States in the next 7-10 days for face-to-face meetings. • Baseball America's Jim Callis said he would rank Cespedes in the 7-15 range of their top 100 prospects list, and that he would take over as the top prospect of pretty much any team that signs him. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...12/2612878.html -

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) If he signs with the Cubs this weekend, there will be even more fireworks at Sox Fest... unfortunately for KW, he is really in a lose/lose situation when it comes to all future FA signings with the gaffes of Peavy and Rios (I'm not counting Dunn as a gaffe) -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) BenBadler Ben Badler MLB has informed clubs that Yoenis Cespedes is now a free agent. he'll be signed in under a week, thats my BOLD PREDICTION -
lol at melton, he fills out that uni nicely
-
yes err, i thought it asked "Is De Aza an ideal AAA player?" sorry

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) That D will be so horrendously bad. I honestly think that with Cabrera-Prince at the corners, it'll make it really hard for non-Verlanders to pitch over fielding mistakes. I don't like this move long term for Detroit. It might work for a year. Defense doesn't win championships lol

6 teams making big offers to Cespedes, Sox Tigers Indians Marlins Orioles Cubs https://twitter.com/#!/dSoldevila/statu...860018937532416 -
didn't read the last two pages so forgive me if it's already been mentioned but what if the problem isn't with identifying the talent during the drafting process but, you know.... converting those drafts into MLB players there are ways to tell if it were the player, or the player development staff when deciding of a guy is any good or not after leaving through a trade or whatever, such as if he "finds it" on another team obviously borchard, fields, poreda, BA, Broadway were horrible first round picks, we'll see eventually how Beckham pans out as well as the pitchers everybody keeps mentioning my point: we suck at drafting and developing

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) This is like Chinese water torture waiting for Cespedes to be declared a free agent. If someone other team signs him, I hope it is soon so the mourning can start......... can someone explain what exactly is the process? is the MLB preventing his FA declaration or something? doesn't he already have an agent? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) We've cleared an extra $10-$11 million in the past 2 days. would give me something positive to look forward to

Cespedes maybe more likely now? just a thought
-
it has to be said, if the offense comes out slow as hell again, the entire staff (starters and bullpen) will suffer it's so important to have an offense that can at least come close to matching the talent of your rotation. danks cant be asked to pitch more than 6 innings a game, so we're already at a disadvantage there, we don't have buehrle anymore to go 7+, Peavy is a huge question mark for how effective he'll be or how many innings per outing he can give us, Sale will probably be just as likely to be dominant this year as he will be to get absolutely lit up in his first full year as a starter IMO since our offense hasn't really been upgraded, we're gonna be really bad next year

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 25, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) Josh McCown looks a hell of a lot better than Hanie. Maybe it's just the Packers defense, but eh. you'd think he'll have a job next year as at least a backup -
rose got hacked by gasol on that last shot, no call of course

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 02:01 AM) Why did they pick up his $10.25 million option for 2012 if they wanted to get rid of him? Lots of Sox fans argue Quentin is too expensive to us now at $6.5-8.0 million. I don't have an answer for why they picked up his option, but I have quite a few friends who are Yanks fans, and really who doesn't have friends who are Yanks fans.. and they've been telling me for the last TWO years that they can't wait until his contract is up. that option pickup is odd, but it's probably because they didn't have an immediate replacement. the option was picked up before cespedes had his tryouts right? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) They already have Gardner, Granderson and Swisher for their OF. Pitching is a more critical need, both starting and bullpen. he'd go to aa/aaa if the yankees picked him up, NYY cant wait til swishers contract is up -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) The prime is much closer to 27-30. largely depends on weight class and styles. heavier weight classes rely less on athleticism and can be effective for longer, if you take everything from 106 to 160, you'll find most top pros are around 25-26. what confuses people is being able to separate a boxers peak skill-wise, versus peak popularity-wise. they are years apart. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) 27 is prime age for baseball athletes. yeah, when i think of a young player, i dont think 'player in their prime' QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 07:31 AM) That is plenty young in baseball terms (just entering the beginning of prime years), not boxing. And I feel insulted you consider 27 "old" sir. I'm 31. also, the prime years of a pro boxer are nearly identical to that of an MLB player (~25-26 in boxing), but that's another subject -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 03:47 AM) He is also still very young to build around for this team. He'll be 27 in april.. not exactly a spring chicken, but maybe your definition of a young athlete is different than mine -

all of k0na's leaks have been of pitching acquisitions, maybe something to consider when trying to figure out who his source is -
This is where we get pretty much nothing for Carlos, and a prospect for Danks that some random scout has high up in the Jays system, whereas everyone else (BP, BA, etc) has said player ranked about 15-20. lol
