  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) According to fangraphs, he has put up $57 million in value. I think his contract was for $55 million with half a season to go. One free agent who worked out. It would have been interesting if the Sox held on to him. Would they have made the playoffs in 2012? Would Sale have become a closer? Who knows. Decent chance we wouldn't have gone after Abreu.
  2. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Does Sale have a shot to start the ASG or is the ERA+IP gap from Keuchel just too large? Over at /r/baseball on Reddit almost all the non-White Sox fans are voting Sale as the starter, but I doubt it will happen. God damn Twins. I actually assumed his biggest competition was Archer.
  3. The deck chairs have again been shuffled here on the Titanic
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) There is no good reason for the White Sox to trade Quintana unless they receive that sort of a return. And that's why I vehemently oppose a Quintana trade.
  5. Quintana is clearly more valuable than Samardzija at this point. But guys, GUYS, seriously -- stop using the Addison Russell trade as a frame of reference. EVERYONE thinks/thought/knows/knew that was a drastic overpay. If you're starting there as a precedent, you're just being delusional.
  6. I don't want any of our good players going to the Royals. EDIT: to be clear, I'd be fine sending them Samardzija.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 08:48 AM) Ummm...should we have a poll with nine other managers along with Robin and you can see how few besides yourself (Greg will pick Ozzie) would have the best record since 2012 if they had been managing the same exact White Sox rosters from that point until July 1st, 2015? Tell us who you think would have a worse record and why? Sandberg? Ozzie? Who else? Buddy Bell? Joey Cora? Jim Fregosi? Davey Johnson? Valentine? Washington? Remember, Francona also has White Sox ties, back to the Barons' team with Michael Jordan two decades ago. 2-4 games per season is the difference between making the playoffs and just missing out most years. Remember when RV was such a breath of fresh air in his first season? How all the extra infield practice made a fundamentally sound team? What happened? Did he get worse on purpose? Or was he really the cause of the improvement in the first place? If not, how can we be so sure he's the problem now?
  8. I love Chris Sale as much as the rest, but let's be careful with the "hasn't even peaked yet" thing. Aging curves -- never rigid in the first place -- have been creeping toward the younger side for years now, and we know that velocity especially peaks very young. Pitchers that have long, HOF careers typically do so because they are able to evolve their approach and arsenal as their stuff declines. I do think that Chris can be one of those guys, but we should acknowledge that his "stuff" is as good now as it will ever be and that he isn't due to become physically more dominant just because he isn't 27 yet. There are always exceptions, of course, but they're rare.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) Bases loaded nobody out and can't score. Gtfo robin THANKS OBAMA
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) i just can't believe all the rehire Ozzie talk. it just amazes me on that. I expect it from greg, but everyone else... ugh.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) The Peavy trade remains fine. The dude was toast. But anyone who was expecting Avisail Garcia to be some stud All-Star was really hopeful. Exactly. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 06:20 PM) Remember Avi spent 7 years in the minors and had over 2,400 PA. So he may be 24 in age but he spent a lot of time in the minors. Which is why is should scare the s*** out of us that his issues are related to seeming to have no idea HOW to play the OF or come up with a plan at the plate. Next time he falls over himself in RF or flails at a pitch that lands in the opposite batters box, remember that he's been coached professionally since at least 2009.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Yes! I feel vindicated. You must admit greg is Ozzie's biggest supporter on Soxtalk! I want Ozzie! I've never had any trouble admitting to that fact.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Out with Williams and Hahn, in with STEVE STONE. That's right, you heard me - put Stoney in charge of the whole production! He's always wanted to be a GM, and he's certainly smart enough to do so. The timing is right as he's at the end of his TV contract at the end of this season. He would pass the Jerry Reinsdorf loyalty program smell test, while at the same time he would bring in a new and fresh perspective on how to run an organization. And then once you install him in as GM or exec. VP of baseball ops or whatever, then let him find the right baseball mind to run things in the dugout. lol
  14. omfg you people are clamoring for the return of Ozzie Guillen?
  15. None of you have any idea who is calling the shots in the White Sox front office.
  16. I've literally been saying this for years now. So, agreed.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) And we waited for Dunn and Danks to do just that....and, are still waiting. Even with Cabrera and Eaton hitting much better, this team is still fundamentally-flawed. With those players rising, guys like Ramirez, Beckham and Avi are correspondingly falling, so we're still not doing anything much besides treading water. If it's not the bullpen, it's the defense...if it's not the offense, it's the base running. We can fix one wall of the foundation, but the whole thing will collapse eventually and need to be rebuilt from the ground up. And I'm not even sure who we are waiting on NOW that we can expect to return us to greater glory? Alexei Ramirez? Samardzija? Quintana? Beckham? Sanchez? Gillaspie? Flowers? Robertson/Duke? So Dunn declined, therefore no White Sox players will ever bounce back. (Danks doesn;t count, his shoulder was ruined and no one thought he was bouncing back. Or at least no one should have)
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) I can't give you specific names but I am CONVINCED fully my plan of keeping Sale, Q, Rodon, and our new draftee pitcher to go with Abreu and A. Garcia (I guess he's a fine prospect still) and trading all the pieces Hahn acquired last offseason is our best bet for immediate success. Those are a lot of bodies to trade and I'll leave it to him to fix the problems with those bodies as trade bait. Our ONLY hope is to ride what could be a top of the line rotation to the top. It would help if we could get in another division though. Sox are patsies to division foes in Central. So: 1. Keep good players 2. Replace bad players I think you're onto something, greg.
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) Am I missing something or does Appel look like a bust? I'd think they'd trade him ahead of McCullers and Velazquez at least. Yeah, Appel's value is down. I just don't think half a year of the version of Samardzija that looks like a 3-4 starter is worth much at all. But, with Cueto now maybe looking injured and the Kazmir now maybe looking less available, who knows?
  20. They're saying Hanley is worse in LF than Manny was, and they're saying it's because he refuses to care at all.
  21. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 07:43 AM) Frickin' day games man. It's good -- it means you can watch the 12-15 minute condensed version on mlb.tv when you get home from work, so you waste much less time before they let you down.
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 07:26 AM) Appel, Phillips and Nottingham for Samardzija. Would the Astros do it? No, we're not going to get that much.
  23. Alex Guerrero has a clause in his contract that allows him to become a free agent if he is traded. If he's good, he's a half year rental, if he's bad, we're stuck with his contract. He is not a good target because of this.
